Cherry switches also aren't really tactile.

They're not? I think clears are extremely tactile.

Hence why I said "usable" thumb keys :)
Ergodox thumb cluster is too far away for me.
Cherry switches also aren't really tactile.
Ah, I have pretty massive hands so I don't think I would have any problems with an ergodox.

Also, what cherry switches have you tried?

hopefully the ergodox i just ordered from massdrop with Round 5 SA caps.

but as of right now this very day i have to say my custom poker. the pom caps, plate mounted blue switches, and hammer aluminum case makes it feel so solid and wonderful.

POM is the ****.  it is just so awesome.

I've tried cherry browns, blues, clears.

The difference between them and really tactile interfaces (buckling springs, sanwa microswitched joysticks, clicky alps) is pretty profound.

* Realforce based 87-key layout, off-white/gray
* Better controller (so Scroll-Lock works on KVM's)
* Uniform Topre switches, 49g weight

122 key IBM model F, standard (I think ANSI layout).

Standard layout for an F122 is terminal ISO. ISO for the alphanumerics, but with a split + key on the numpad and some re-arranged key positions because of the terminal layout. However, they can be modded to ANSI with some precision elbow grease.

My perfect keyboard would be cybernetic implants at the ends of my efferent neurons...

Show Image

Hah, beat me to it.

I would prefer to simply think the words into the machine; there's no way my fingers will ever be as fast as my thoughts.

Consider this: If i think in visual imagery, and a "movie" is ~24+ fps, and "a picture's worth 1000 words..."

There's no way i will ever be able to "type" 24,000 WPM... and that's not even counting "gamers" who notice anything below monitor refresh rate.

What if we could convert fluid motion imagery directly to language, in real-time, just by thinking? Or even literally "stream" our very consciousness... all thoughts, dreams, memories, images, sounds... or even quantify and digitize actual feelings...

This:

(Attachment Link)

MX browns with 62g ErgoClears on the thumb clusters, Esc, Del, arrows and edit keys. All switches trampoline and latex modded. Fully programmable and plug and play (no special drivers), custom layout (ADnW BU-Teck with some modifications).

Or for a more conventional answer, a GH60 with the Nostalgia set in a white case (ANSI layout with custom function layers).

Oobly, do you have a thread on this keyboard? It looks awesome and I'd love to learn more about it.

For me, there isn't a perfect keyboard since I like to many styles, but a perfect keycap would be a e-ink keycap with clear polycarbonate top to protect the e-ink screen.

60% Model M with NKRO and MX-compatible key caps.

Or just a kishsaver and you keep them BS keycaps? :p

As for me, since falling in love with my F122, I now dream of a space unsaver (F122 without the numpad), and in fact, to be perfect, I would even prefer to have a F122 but without the navigation part (arrows and above). A 60% F could do the job since I aim to mostly use the 60% section with layers thx to Soarer, but I still find it nice looking to be just big, yet the F122 is just a little too big for my mouse to be at the right place so removing either the numpad or the nav cluster would be perfect. And since I remap the nav cluster on a layer anyway, as well keep the numpad for the rare occasions where it would be useful. And them 24+10 function keys, just badass and they use space that would not be used anyway. OK, I have yet to try a split ergo keyboard, but that's another story!

Titanium color low profile aluminum case.
Winkeyless ansi layout with stepped capslock.
Costar stabilizers for except for spacebar which would have clipped cherry stabilizers so I could flip it around.
Lubed and stickered cherry mx clear with gold 62g springs.
New Cherry/Corsair RGB backlighting.
GMK two tone black on beige two tone double shots (with fixed tab).
Custom sleeved usb cable.

Photek's Tek-80 comes pretty damn close but I would prefer a low profile, rectangular case like my kmac.

This would be very nice.

I think a nice layout is the 75% layout on the Epsilon or Siig Minitouch. Or the 22MX mini. But I'd like Blue Alps switches. Aluminum case in the vein of a KMAC case/TEK-80/Hammer, stainless steel plate, true Purple LEDs, GMK/Cherry profile doubleshot ABS caps in a purple/pink colorway.

If we're going for dream keyboard status, swap out stainless steel and aluminum for inconel.

Buckling spring
USB, PS/2, and Bluetooth support.
LiPoly battery for Bluetooth. Charged by the USB or PS/2 connection.
Integrated USB hub with additional USB ports on the left and right side.
Programmable via a micro SD card that has a simple XML file describing the scan codes sent for each key
Transparent Key stems
Integrated LED for each key. Or Promethium-147 radioluminescent ink used for the keycap legends.
Each key is a separate switch with an integrated diode to prevent ghosting.
PS/2 version would have N-key rollover.
Each key is secured via a bolt to a back-plane.
The back-plane has trace positions for key in many different locations (so you can add more switches).
Open source and fully programmable firmware (loaded from the SD card).
A reset switch on the back.
Adjustable weight and tilt.
Integrated PIR motion detector that sends the "lock computer" command when you're no longer in front of your computer for 15 seconds.
No CapsLock key. Instead another modifier key.
No NumLock key. Instead another Esc key. The number pad is just numbers.
No ScrollLock, Print Screen, Break/Pause keys. Instead F1-F30!
No Insert-button. Instead a "Close" button that the OS understands to mean "close the window with focus".
Some extra keys: Lock, Sleep, and Power.
Extra modifier keys: Option, Function, Command, and Cmd.

137 key format (see the picture below)
The dream...                     The reality...

A capacitive buckling spring Maltron L90 with reprogrammable and relegendable keys might not be perfect, but it would keep me happy until perfection came along.

Perhaps something with Hall effect switches and OLED keycaps...
