Best 60% keyboard with arrow keys
« on: Thu, 17 April 2014, 20:34:45 »
Hey everyone,

I am interested in buying a 60% keyboard with arrow keys. As for switch type, I want ergo clear but I am not sure how to go about this. Is it easier to buy clear switch keyboard and look for the springs or the other way around? Anyway thanks in advance!  :thumb:

pure pro is pretty much the only choice for ANSI

JIS layout if you want arrows

imo easiest way is to buy a board, buy clears and springs, and swap. Off the top of my head I do not know any 60% with clears

Go up a bit and get a KC 84 :)
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

It will be less expensive if you can get a board with clear switches. Buying a set of switches is more money than buying a set of springs.

You will have more options as far as what switches come with the board if you go slightly larger than a 60%. Also, you might make the spring swap easier if you can get a board that is PCB mounted. PCB mounted boards are not as easy to find though.

Qtan sells a Leopold FC660M with clear switches. I don't know of any others offhand that have clear switches that are currently available.

I don't use the RH modifiers, and just use my pure, which works out well.

Coincidentally it is ergo clear as well.

The original KBT Pure can set the right hand modifiers into inverted T arrow cluster. It's also PCB mount, so you can open the switches to mod them with only desoldering the LEDs (or get the unbacklit version and you don't need to desolder anything at all). Pure Pro has dedicated arrow keys but it's hard to find keycap sets that fit, but at least it's 60% size.

If you can get a board with Clears, you can then buy the springs from some place like Originative. Cheapest option.

The FC660M, Keycool 84 and Pure Pro are all good, but I really love my "true 60%" Pure for a lot of reasons. There are lots of case options for it, too.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Stock? I really liked the Filco Manila.

Custom? Epsilon

It's kind of hard to find a stock board in the 60% size with Clears. I think the 660M is the only option? So you'll probably have to source the board, switches, and springs.
