Good metal and or death metal bands?
« on: Mon, 23 June 2014, 13:45:49 »
I have been looking to expand my music variety and I thought metal and death metal might be a change of pace. Plus I know there is a few metal and death metal fans on the site.

Throw some names at me. yo

I've chosen most of these because they're more obscure and more likely to be new for you.

Bloodbath: My favorite death metal band.
Smothered: More Swedish Death Metal Only one album made so far, but check it out.
Carcass: Good old school death metal from England.
Svartsot: Folk/death from my own country.
Demonoid: Death, Only one album as well :/
Wintersun: A very melodic (folk?) metal band.
Kverlertak: Hipster black metal/punk from Norway.
Satyricon: Black Metal/Rock from Norway.

Go to this link and start listening to anything off that list.

I've been jamming to Vanna, Revocation, Expire, and Unearth.

Also a billion votes for Kvelertak as Frenir pointed out. And my favorite death metal band is The Black Dahlia Murder.

I have already listened to one song by Bloodbath and I'm already. Amazed. Thanks for the suggestions  :thumb:

For some other kind of metal, here's what I have been listening to mostly for the last 12-14 years or so:

Stratovarius (Power metal)
Nightwish (Gothic metal, but in a very symphonic way and singer is awesome, but the signer left the group a few years ago)
Rhapsody (now Rhapsody of fire and Luca Turrili's rhapsody since split the group (peacefully) 1 year or 2 ago) (I don't remember the exact name of the genre, but it's some kind of fantasy metal)

All of these bands are not fully together now, but they have a good amount of albums that I still listen to since they are awesome!
IBM F122, IBM XT F X2, IBM AT F (all Soarer converted), Filco Camo TKL Browns

I would second Kvelertak here (y)
One of my friends actually recorded his first album in Kvelertak's record studio! He got to hang with them quite a bit actually! Check out Smaagnom as well, only got one song on spotify so far, though.

This is my favorite metal blog. Read some of their best of 2014 so far threads. Pick one of the articles, then pick one of the bands, and start listening :D.

Protest the Hero <3. I saw them in Montreal and they played Fortress cover to cover. There was much stage diving.

Metalsucks is pretty solid, even if Axl hates Megadeth for whatever reason. And if I read another Sergeant D. post, I might actually get eye cancer

I have odder tastes in metal I guess, but here's some good stuff that I recommend:

firstly though:
Wintersun: A very melodic (folk?) metal band.
I always quote Jari Mäenpää (who does almost everything in Wintersun) and call it "Extreme Majestic Technical Epic Melodic Metal"

Proressive metal:
Anubis Gate

avant-garde (arguably not metal)
diablo swing orchestra

You want more yelly stuff? I got it! (CPTbadass should take a look at these 2 if he doesn't know them already. I know he likes yelly stuff)
probably progressive melodeath (I think?)
Ne Obliviscaris

more traditional
Ennead

I think this genre is called "blackjazz". Genre lines start to break down as you go further.
shining [norway]

and we musn't forget:
gojira

'Cause Dave Mustaine is an *******? Good tunes though. And Sergeant D's posts make me laugh...even if they also kill off my braincells on a mass scale.

The Nordic countries know how to do metal. Bands listed so far from Finland: Children of Bodom, Stratovarius, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica. And I'll add another to the list from here, Amorphis.

Lately been listening a lot to Red.

<edit>Forgot to mention Apocalyptica.</edit>
