Yeah it's understandable, it was just a little bit disheartening seeing someone else in another thread get picture confirmation and stuff the the day after they paid.

It's been over 3 weeks since he sent a message to me saying "Your PCB and parts are packed,  will ship out soon!".  I am totally understanding of delays and am not really that upset, but it would be nice to hear something about the status of our orders.

Sprit,
I don't mean to be rude, but I payed my order on June 11th and haven't got anything (tracking number, pics, etc) from you yet.
I know you have been sick and really wish you get batter.
All I'm asking is the update on my order.
It's Not rude at all !   ;)
I am preparing the updates and emails,  please wait for a couple days!  OK?

From the spring thread.  Hopefully this includes the red headed stepchild PCB GB as well...

Can the RBG leds you gave me work as caps lock indicator if I solder it on the caps lock switch, or do they just light random colors constantly?  :)

Just done putting the stabilizers and all the switches in, just need to solder now :D Very happy with the parts

Hi everyone, this seems like the best place to ask this question:

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1352

How does this PCB compare to the competition/recent PCB's, as usual, there isn't too much info from MK itself, but it's exciting that they sell this PCB

(I guess the competition is this: http://winkeyless.kr/product/b-face-x2-pcb/ - since it's a recent release, and it's unclear what revision of FaceW MK is selling, whether it's from a reliable fab etc.)

For those of you who are using faceW (or any other board using bootloadHID bootloader, e.g. the winkeyless PCBs) on Mac OS X - here's a compiled binary executable for flashing these on OS X (Yosemite). Just one file in the zip, bootloadHID, compiled straight from the original Objective Development sources. It does exactly the same thing as bootloadHID.exe from SPRiT.

Usage: put your faceW into the bootloader mode (hold 'Q' while plugging in; all LEDs should flash), and then run './bootloadHID <something.hex>' in a terminal.

Maybe someone finds this useful.

The SPRiT PCBs the www.mechanicalkeyboards.com selling are direct from me,
Manufactured in Korean & Inspected, Tested and support by myself.

THere have been long detailed conversations between me and MK executives since last year.
24K Gold plated springs, Cases, other custom parts will be available from the MK.com  with careful quality control as GH groupbuy.
You will get a faster response from MK team !   ;)
I will focus on the finalizing remaining GB shipping.

Is there a timeframe for the springs etc. ?

Quick question, how does the PS2 mode work, is it seamless? (Does it auto-detect, does it work over USB automatically, is it persistent etc.)

I'm thinking of building a PS2 to USB converter with Teensy to use tmk_keyboard firmware for the mapping stuff, that's why I'm asking, in this scenario the PCB will be in PS2 mode

--------

Another quick question, what kind of leds are supported?
(I wonder whether these would be compatible with the resistors used: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11448)

I think that you can connect also a PS/2 cable to the PCB, if I remember correctly near the USB leads there are also PS/2 ones, but I'm not 100% sure, I don't have a faceW PCB at hand anymore. In theory you could do something like that.
I think Hasu has developed also a USB tmk converter.
For me the ps2avr firmware is good enough, and very easy to use, no need for compilers and stuff like that, just map everything directly, just a text editor is what you need, it works even with Vi/Vim :d
But I know many want all the fancy stuff tmk has so I can sort of understand  ;D

If you look on this picture https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/images/products/large_1353_20150804_133352.jpg you can see under the USB connector leads for GND +/- that look like PS/2 , so in theory it might work this way . Can't say for sure.

Thanks a lot for sharing these

I had a chance to test PS2 over USB + PS2-tmk-USB with a WASD V2, it was better than the real thing, so I'm hoping it will work similarly with sprit PCB's too - it was automatic as in (a)

(Went ahead and ordered 2 black sprit pcb's a while ago by the way)

I've previously dismissed LED's, as I can't look into bright lights, however, is it possible to modify the layer so that led's only activate and fade-down after keypresses? (at each keypress, each led individually)

There is no individual control of the LEDs on SPRiT's PCB, they are all (well except the Caps Lock and Backspace LEDs) on the same controller pin.

I suspected as much, thanks a lot for the extremely swift reply

On another level, I'm kind of glad they are not individual, things are very complex as it is, no need to add leds to the complexity (the resistors of this PCB are undocumented for example, it's unclear how different leds are treated)
However, if they were individual, it would certainly be cool (it was the only useful/cool led use case I can think of)

I know that some gamer keyboards have individual led paths, I'm guessing no enthusiast PCB's have such a feature tho (not that it's needed :)

I think the resistors are either 330R or 470R. I can measure them tomorrow if you want (I've got a SPRiT faceW PCB).

The only homebrew PCB I've seen that would allow for control of individual LEDs is the GH60 (the real one, not the chinese clones). And even that one only has the LEDs routed to a series of pads, where an extra LED controller (not designed yet) should come in. Controlling that many LEDs requires lot of pins (not enough on the usual atmegas), so a dedicated controller.

Certainly there is no firmware around that would control that many LEDs.

Controlling that many LEDs requires lot of pins (not enough on the usual atmegas), so a dedicated controller.

Certainly there is no firmware around that would control that many LEDs.

At this point I don't need it, but it would certainly help someone in the future, if you have a spare PCB lying around, otherwise I might do it myself too, when I receive the PCB's in <1 months

330R/470R makes a lot of sense by the way, with a rough calculation it amounted to ~0,4A for 60 leds with full power

at 330R, these would pull 540ma at full power: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11448 - but with an 2v forward voltage, they are the lowest I've seen amongst the 3mm leds that are available (so I'm guessing if it's 330, not all leds are safe to use at full power, but 470 would probably be ok)

I searched but I want to be certain, does anyone know if the firmware could support a "locking" Caps Lock switch and reactive LED?

I think I see pin support for the off center LED on the board.

I'm thinking about picking up a FaceW for another project. Any information on what LED's it's compatible with straight from sprit? I'm clueless when it comes to electronics.

@KHAANNN: the faceW I have (recent batch) has curiously 910 Ohm resistors.

@VentureG: This means that the board can take any normal LEDs that fit the switches, i.e. either 3mm round lipless or 2x3x4mm rectangular.

EDIT: @von_braun: the faceW does support and off-center caps lock, with LED as well. However if you mean that you want a switch which stays down (like MX lock), I didn't see any option for that in the Koreans' configuration tool, so the firmware probably does not support that directly. You can however program it to be (say) left shift, which would mean that when the switch stays down, it will behave as if you would be pressing left shift continuously. That's not quite what Caps Lock normally does, but...

Thanks, and yeah I plan on getting an MX lock switch if the board can do it right.

I'm not familiar with what "Face W" actually is(Derp), I'm waiting on a Sprit 60 PCB from another group buy that will use a universal plate so mounting should be fine.

(Yea I thought face W is the name of SPRiT's newer 60% PCB. Correct me if I'm wrong...)

I think I misunderstood your question the first time, so here I go again (after staring at my faceW for a while). as far as I can tell, mechanically and electrically speaking, you can put MX Lock switch at the caps lock position, either "centered", or "stepped" (="off-center", the switch is not in the middle of the keycap, but to the left).

However if you want to put a led in it, you will *have* to use the stepped switch position (that's because MX Lock's LED is at a different position than in a normal switch, it's more to the right DT wiki - but the good news is that it should actually work in a universal PCB like faceW).
