Post your BS boards here!
« on: Sun, 17 August 2014, 14:35:57 »
I'll start with mine.
IBM AT Model F with Unicomp-printed custom Cyrillic set.

Daily driver: IBM AT Model F
Other boards: Razer BlackWidow Expert (Cherry MX Blue)|Unicomp Ultra Classic UB43PHA (Buckling Spring)|Poker II (Cherry MX Blue)|V60MTS (Matias Quiet Click)|Apple Extended Keyboard M3501 (Alps Cream Damped)|Strong Man KM988KKB88 (Tai-Hao APC Alps-clone (white))

Wow that's amazing! Are those unicomp keycaps or original IBM?

Either way that's great. The cyrillic legends are more subdued than the in-your-face red you usually get. Also I spy some front-printing!

Here's mine:

Bolt modded 1390120 from 3-3-86 (barcode label and mandolin crystal) with a set of medical keycaps from a GE marquette keyboard (unicomp made in the early 2000's). The numpad + and "enter" keys are from the original KB (I ran out of stabilizer inserts so they are the wire stabilizer ones) and the function row is from a NIB box of vintage IBM keycaps. I got it mainly for the vintage IBM Green & yellow keys. Oh, and the 386 is just for decoration.

The cable is an orihalcon PS2 SDL cable made from some excellent cat-5e cable.

It's just the one I have out and am using right now.

Edit: uploading now

I left some original keycaps on - Numpad, F1 - F10 and others. But all alphanumerics are Unicomp-printed, and yes, some of them also side-printed.

Yeah, you can tell from the font that those numpad keycaps came from an AT or PC/XT model F.

Unicomp did a really good job there!

edit:

Right to left.

Top row 2* IBM "unsaver" model F, IBM "pingmaster" japanese keyboard (in box), "Rubber dome M 101
next row: "oldest known" 122-key model F, KB assembly has been replaced with a NIB one (rest of KB is in a box)
Next row: IBM DIsplaywriter keyboard, IBM correcting selectric II, IBM dome 122-key (in box), PC/XT model F (in foam)
next row: IBM 3278 keyboard
Next row IBM 3178 keyboard, IBM wheelwriter 10 series 2 (boltmodded), IBM AT model F
next row: M13
next row: IBM terminal KB (parts unit), unicomp 104-key, AT&T KB305 terminal emulator variant (the buckling spring at&t board)
next row: IBM 4704-200, 2* IBM 4704-100, 1390120, IBM LPFK (cherry M8 switches)

In the corner are my lightsaver and ergodox half gamepad.

That's all the IBM I could find.

Edit: missing 2 wheelwriter keyboards I have in a box somewhere.

Yeah, there are a few different functioning controllers floating around.  I've opted to go with xwhatsit's controller.

Oh yeah, xwhatsit done great work, especially for beamsprings boards owners, I just forgot his F controller good for Kishsaver too :)

many ways to go here
In 1979 Jimmy Carter warned of a spiritual crisis that he identified as toxic to American ideals: "Too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption. Human identity is no longer defined by what one does, but by what one owns. But we’ve discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning. You see every extreme position defended to the last vote, almost to the last breath by one unyielding group or another. We see a balanced and fair approach that demands sacrifice, a little sacrifice from everyone, abandoned like an orphan without support and without friends. We have lost our way … because we have exalted “a mistaken idea of freedom"; our self-indulgence had led us to assert every right as absolute, every form of compromise or regulation as inimical to freedom, and to elevate the very avatar of self-absorption to the highest office in the land.” (ie Reagan!) Carter warned the nation against following the “path that leads to fragmentation and self-interest”, for “down that road lies a mistaken idea of freedom, the right to grasp for ourselves some advantage over others”.

From typewriter?

Yes, a IBM ActionWriter now powered by a teeny. I still need to think of a way to put a 'back' on the case and perhaps integrate a usb hub.

What a memory - I had pretty well forgotten. I put it into a modified M-122 case and sold it that way.

This new "stealth" model is much improved - I need to completely update that old guide. See the USB hub in the back left corner? What a great thing to have, but, it seems to have died after less than a year  :(

This one will go back into a standard F-122 case (after you remove the carrying handle at the back!) and the few "destructive" mods, while irreversible, do not impede using the stock case.

There's something about this one that looks ... different.  Maybe the black plate?  Dunno.  But it looks fantastic! :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

But is it bolt modded?

Not that one, no. I have 3 1390131's, and two of them are bolt modded. I needed to clean that one out anyway, so I stuck the internals in that case. But I'll probably swap it out for a bolt modded one when I decide to actually use it, rather than just look at it. :)
