I agree, and this is how I approach gift giving. If you get stiffed, that person knows what they are doing...well, hopefully. Some people have zero remorse.

Put your return address on the box.

I agree.  I would just put your initials or "Secret Santa" as your name for the return.

when i found this thread a few months back i was stoked to take part in the winter santa, but seeing new rules (legit!) i'll be waiting for summer santa. if i may, i'd be happy to sign up just as a sender of stuff, if thats at all possible. my favourite thing in life is receiving packages in the mail, and i love passing that feeling on to others.

As long as you take the time and effort to think about what you are gifting and to who, you will be fine.  This whole thing is not about one-upmanship, but rather just to enjoy the holidays with other like-minded people.

No way I'd have the money to do this as much as I'd love to give it a go. Sounds really fun, but I couldn't give anyone a keyboard or anything. All I have around these days are miscellaneous parts.

Um....what do you think people are sending to each other? Because it's definitely not a keyboard. In the past, the minimum was like $15. You don't really need to spend a lot. Some of the best stuff I've received were letters and mixtapes on actual cassette tapes. Oh and snacks. Regional snacks and candies are always a good look. ALWAYS. Again, it's more about the spirit of giving and not what amazing Clack or HHKB you spoiled someone with.
