That's pretty tempting for someone looking for their first Model M. However, the multiple warnings about how fragile the components can be sorta puts me off (see the bottom of the HGWiki).
The only component you have to be careful with is the trackpoint, because under normal operation it doesn't take a lot of pressure to move it and it's bounded by the keys around it. With the keys pulled off you could accidentally brush the pointer too hard and knock it out of its mount.
I know this, because I did this on one of my black M13's when I was pulling it apart for a bolt mod. Luckily that part is readily available from Unicomp.
Otherwise, it's no more fragile than a standard M. The button cutout is not that weak and it's easy to be careful around the ribbon cable running to the pointer.
