I never owned any artisan caps besides gas masks and a hellboy, but I find the Checkey to be a nice entry point.  Aesthetically, I find it looks great on IBM boards, and it practically shines when compared to my gray desk and my SSK.  Although the keycap isn't made of metal, the metallic look has always been a thing for me ever since I got my hands on metal-backed keyboards such as the Zenith ZKB2R and Omnikey keyboard.

Since my purchase of my SSK back in February, I noticed I have been using the keyboard quite a lot.  This is surprising for me because I've always known myself to use my Topre boards the most.  I think the reason I've been using my SSK so much is because it's the only clicky keyboard I own that truly satisfies me when my keyboard rotation calls for it.  Personally, I think good artisan keycaps are what make me use certain boards more.  I almost always slap on my ruby red gasmask and hellboy Topre keycaps when I begin to use my Topre boards because I love the subtle addition of color and craftsmanship it adds to the overall premium quality of the boards.  Of course, the SSK is no exception to the quality I look for when adding artisan keycaps.

I don't think I have the great amount of passion, such as Karura's efforts to create a retro-pc specifically for his SSK, to utilize the Checkey.  However, like many of the users who made the effort to test their luck, I just wanted to communicate my interest and appreciation for the Checkey.

Here is an old pic of my SSK:
Show Image

Thanks for giving users the chance to own the Checkey.  As a person who purchases personal archival prints, I know it's not easy to let go of them when you think it can go in better hands.  I purchased quite a few prints that never quite worked well in my rooms, and so they often become gifts to my friends and family who share similar tastes.

That's a glass desk?  A fantastic photo btw, looks like the keyboard is floating :D

Oh thanks  :).  I took the photo of my SSK on my living room table.  I usually take photos in my living room because the lighting is better.  Here is a photo of my novatouch on my gray desk:

Firstly, I would like to thank Nubbinator for his generosity towards the community. I know he is playing it cool; but, selling such an amazing cap is not as easy as it seems.

Anyways; one of the reasons why I want this cap is because it would match so well with my Schiit stack. A love the Dac/Amp combo and having something else with the metallic finish would make the flow of my desk look a little bit more complete.

The Checkey would be my first and only artisan keycap, and getting it pass on from one the most well-known people on Geekhack is pretty cool, IMO.
Geekhack is a unique place where complete strangers come together and talk about their passion(s); an eye opening community where someone trying to find a little more on a “gaming keyboard” can get swept away with all the unique switch types, layouts, profiles, keycaps, etc. I know that’s what happened with me. After I purchased my 6gv2 I wasn’t satisfied with feeling of blacks and wanted more information on why they felt so mushy to me. It wasn’t long before I was engulfed with information. Which lead me to Browns and my Poker II; which I am very happy with.

Getting back to the passion of the community; people get so excited over the wild verity of products and services that Geekhack has to offer; majority of the times, members send their hard earned dollars to people without knowing where the cash is going only in hope that they get something in return. Sometimes it is a keyboard, a keycap, a service and so on. This is quite amazing. There is a trust between members because of that passion. 99% of the times everything works out well and all parties are satisfied. However; when that 1% does happen I have seen the community come together and help out fellow members. Such as Pasph's issue with WFD, even though I’m a newer member I felt compelled to donate to Pasph.

So that’s a bit about me and my experiences with Geekhack, It’s a great place where people with the same passions come together and further explore the world of keyboards.

Knock-offs are nice caps?

Compared to no caps, very nice actually

then your needs are already being satisfied.

now you're complaining that you can't get EVEN MORE caps.  isn't that greedy of you?

but honestly...if you take that reddit shaped dildo out of your ass before you start your online keyboard social justice warrior sessions, you'd be less butthurt every night.

although if you actually DO enjoy the presence of the dildo, don't take it out for my sake.  i was just sayin'

I've never owned a clack.  Would love to grab the green opaque one if available.

My reason for deserving one...  Um.  I'm rad.

I would love to win this! I don't own any Clacks nor do I really understand how any of that stuff works, but I'm trying!

I bought my first and only buckling spring from Unicomp. I would love to have something awesome to compliment the biceps my fingers are developing after getting used to this board.

Alright, here we go:

Karura  - I love the fact that you built a whole computer around a keyboard.  That's ridiculous and awesome.  The pictures didn't hurt either.

admiralvorian - Few things make me exhale sharply through my nose or laugh on the internet.  Your post did both.  While you don't have a BS board....yet, it would be fun on the keychain and would get some use, which I want to see.

remdell - oddly enough it wasn't your keyboard, but your passion for other collectibles and wanting to appreciate and pass them on when they don't fit your aesthetic.

Rodgaroon - you have a **** stack on your desk.  Need I say more?  Actually it's more that you see what community is about and want to help make it community.  We need more of that, more compassion, and less selfishness.

So onto the drawing:

I wish I had a cap to give to all of you.  I may try and whip something up special for you guys, but this time around, it goes to Karura.

The Checkey set is going out to Photeqk.  I never knew he wanted them, but they're going to him for being an amazing guy.  I approached him about a case idea and he took the task on and has done all the CAD work without wanting a thing in return.  Sending him the set is the least I can do to say thanks.

Unrelated, help me find that Ragerot!

I want to thank Nubbs for being such a generous and selfless member of our community. Although I haven't been very active for the 3 years I've been here, in the short while that I've been actively posting, I've seen Nubbs time and time again extend a hand to others and help them achieve their keyboard dreams (such as the Hack Orange and Longzilla! And now for Photeqk, and a lot more)

I've spent some time re-reading all the other submissions and I just wanted to point out that they were all equally worthy, if not better, than mine, and I can feel the passion we all have for our hobbies, whether it's headphones, keyboards, or just computer stuff in general.

To those who posted kind words about my build, I just want to say thank you too for taking the time to appreciate it. We may be small in numbers, and in a totally niche hobby, but we make up for that in our community spirit and selflessness for others.  :thumb:

Once again, thank you Nubbs.

P.S. While I don't own a Nubb caps, they look really great, and I hope to score one someday!  Hope you keep on hackin' em up :)

You're the ornery old grandpa of geekhack demik.  Act like you hate everyone, but secretly you really like a lot of people on here.

I think I'll be putting up my Army Man Green Bro next.  Since I don't remember retail, I'm not sure if I should do $25 or $30 + shipping.  Like yours though, that's something for tomorrow.

But hey, the buyers are condoning and perpetuating this behavior. So it's not all entirely on the sellers.

Grats Karura!  I'd love to see your setup updated with the Checkey one day.

As much as I love to gawk and type on my keyboards, I spend much more time looking at the unique setups, custom boards, and keycaps posted here on GH.  This is very similar to me spending more time looking at art and designs than I do making them.   :))

Congratulations, Karura!

These Checkkeys are fantastic - I was amazed well made they are.  You are sure to enjoy your new acquisition :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

nubbinator, is your awesome sale still going on? I just managed to get a novatouch through a local trade. The board should be here next week and I would love to have an artisan keycap for it.
What you do is great, keep it up :)

Post directly above yours says he mailed the caps. Also these don't fit on Novatouch/MX board.
