FUNC KB-460
« on: Thu, 27 November 2014, 22:07:46 »
Does anyone have any experience with this board?

It comes in MX Blue or MX Red with red backlighting. I have never seen it mentioned around here and couldn't find any posts about it. Well, in the interest of keyboard science, I'm hoping to collect some information on it.

Here is the product website: http://www.func.net/en/products/kb-460-gaming-keyboard/

Some key features seem to be: individually backlit keys, dual USB hub, and N-key rollover.

Reviews exist on YouTube but apparently the last thing anyone wants to do in a keyboard review is type on a keyboard -- it kills me.

There is one at a local store that I will try to get to and try out and report back in this post shortly.

It'll feel like a plate mounted MX board with Costar stabilisers, because that's what it is. The case quality can affect the feel, too, though, so it may be worth checking.

Non-standard bottom row (and 6.0x spacebar) = you can't replace the crappy stock keycaps. I don't need to look further than this since a big benefit of owning an MX board is being able to change the caps...
Non-removable cable.
Gimmicks that don't enhance the board in any meaningful way (NKRO is pointless, you just need a matrix with diodes and standard USB 6KRO).
No long term experiences of the brand = unknown quality and durability.
They are a company that offers mice, keyboards, headsets and mousepads and most likely didn't manufacture the board themselves. This leads to possible support issues and lack of focus on the specific product. I would rather get a keyboard made by a company that only makes keyboards.

The only good sides are that it uses genuine Cherry switches and is plate-mounted. The fact it uses Costar stabs is a downside to me, but could be a plus to others. Another possible benefit is the on-board memory and profiles, but I wouldn't ever use them and don't really see the point as most games allow in-game key remapping. And the pricing seems very reasonable.

Another factor I don't like is that it's full size, but that's just personal preference (along with the switch choices, only Blue, Brown and Red).
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Func make great mice and mouse pads, but the bottom row of this keyboard ruins it for me. Companies should really stop with the absurd bottom rows. And I don't see why a gamer would need a num pad, just go TKL.

There is really nothing wrong with the bottom row like this. Most groupbuys cover that orientation except the 6x space, which is possible to source on your own (though perhaps not always in the same color). It's the same standard as nearly all other iOne made keyboards.
iOne made boards build quality ranges from dire to fine, so...

The keyboard seems a little … underwhelming, although not too surprising since they seemed to have wasted all their efforts on a "I want my two minutes back" video instead of the keyboard.

This is based on the same iOne OEM design used by QPad. If the build quality is the same as those I would stay away from this unit... The problem is that there does not seem to be any decent feedback on this particular model.

Why does every gaming peripheral company insist on these stupid non-standard modifiers? Really, what's the use?
a "I want my two minutes back" video instead of the keyboard.
