What Model M is this?
« on: Sat, 31 January 2015, 13:01:54 »
Hiya guys, got this Model M that some old professor discarded a couple of days ago, but it doesn't have a model sticker. Strangely, it has a part sticker behind the speaker grille that looks like a normal sticker, but it reads "1386715" which I can't find anything about on wikipedia or anywhere else.

It's a UK layout, grey label model with two-part keycaps and a detachable SDL cable. It doesn't appear to have the drainage channels. I'd open it up, but I don't have the proper nut driver for it.

Anyone have any idea what part it is? Pictures below.

I have the same layout, but with a blue label. Mine is a 1391406, but the other number says 1386719 rather than 1386715. I'd assume it's just an older model of the one I've got. Nice find by the way:) !

Looks identical to mine, however mine doesn't have anything behind the grill on the back.

The model number on mine is 1391406
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Hmmm, mine has the same specs as that otherwise, yeah. I'm not sure there's actually anything special behind the grill, since it appears to be just a sticker on the back plate. Still have no idea what that number represents though.

Could it be the part number for the barrel plate?

It's a nice keyboard.  I think you need a left Alt key. Does it work?  Did you check it?  I hope it works fine for you for years to come.

Orly?
Yeah one of those that have the fancy green lettering!  Woohoo!  Well, after looking again at that picture, maybe not, but I think it was swapped with the left Ctrl key.  So maybe he needs a left Ctrl key instead.  No fancy green lettering.  Awwww.

Yeah it might be the number for the barrel plate, I'm no sure. There's really no info for that part number available as far as I can tell.

The key cap from the ctrl key was missing, but because I use that ctrl key quite a lot, I put that of the left Alt on it. I do actually have the buttom part of the key, even though that's not that picture. It's definitely a nice board, though you wouldn't believe how filthy it was when I got it xD . Works perfectly though, every key registers perfectly and works crisply and cleanly :) .
