Question about QFR top case.
« on: Mon, 02 February 2015, 19:27:29 »
So, I ordered a QFR and I already know I don't like the rubber coating on the top case. I can buy a replacement gray one from CM for only $10. My question is, is the grey one also rubberized? I hope it isn't. Thanks in advance guys!

This is the one I can get, but it'll be debranded.

That one looks exactly like my QFR - it is rubberised.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The gray I had was rubberized also. To refinish you have to sand it off or I have used EZ-off oven cleaner to remove it.

Yes, both the black and grey top cases are rubberized. I've bought both and sanded them down to paint and it took a lot to get the coating off

Yep, that's also rubberized. You can sand the top and just paint over it though

The rubberised finish is really nice. At least try it first.
