Got mine! Yay! I'm part of the 57!

Only bummer is I didn't get any of my choices and I thought I submitted quickly enough. (Incidentally, my number is one away from my top choice.)

Who took my 27?!

lol. I didn't get any of my top 3 as well and I submitted at the exact opening time. Mine's close to my top 3 tho.

Didn't get the number I wanted which I knew early on, still fairly excited for this especially after seeing the popularity of blue.

You will get a number,  just can't pick it,  and it'll be above 57

Edit: Now I am questioning myself, will you get a number? Thought I read you will.

Hey Doc, at some point before manufacturing starts, will we get to see pics of anodized samples? Is another business/entity doing that work?

Didn't get any of my three picks for number but I'm mostly here for the gold stabs anyway  :). Pretty happy to see the results of the color poll, looks like we'll get some good choices for anodizing!

Yeah, the prototype will just be anodized silver but I am requesting samples of the other potential colors for people to see. From a design standpoint I think that Silver, Dark grey, and sky blue would work the best but thats obviously subject to change  :thumb:

It is part of this GB as its says in the OP. I am now thinking of cancelling my Zealios order just to save up the $15 shipping fee.

Confused me at first too. I was wondering tho if we could order extra Zealios from this GB as the one I ordered earlier is for different board. Like I said it could save me $15 from shipping fees.

Facts about the potential group buy:
The Mira will be a limited run of 100 boards (hopefully with the unique number engraved). The first 57 boards that are reserved (after the number of years NASA has been operating) will come with gold stabs from ZealPC! The remaining orders will receive the same items but standard stabilizers. More from ZealPC as he unveils his secret item (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69590.0) expect this awesome item to be a part of the buy as well. The number of the board will be assigned in the order they are reserved, as a result, some sort of down payment will likely be required upon ordering. Ordering will start as soon as the Group Buy is posted at a preset date and time.

Saw it too, but too excited so I just went ahead and ordered some Zealios anyway. There will probably be an option to add them to the Mira at the time of the GB. /shrug

For some of you wondering if we can order extra Zealios thru this GB, here's what ZealPC's reply to my question.

"You can order extra Zealios with the Mira. From what DrHubble and I have been discussing, Mira orders will also be processed on my site. Though I still need to figure out a way to properly set it up (certain site limitations with adding an undesignated amount of switches to a combined drop down menu option)."

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates recently I have been super busy with a wide variety of things.

Just spoke to the shop and they said the board should be done with anodizing by this Friday so I should have it to me sometime by the end of next week.

ON THE TOPIC OF COLOR CHOICE:

We spoke about the options that we could have for a run of this size. What he said was that for anodizing choices he is pretty limited ( E.G. Grey, Silver, Red, Blue). What he also told me was that if I wanted to offer powder coating we could do AS MANY COLORS AS WE WANTED, even one offs. So what might happen (I am of course interested to hear your opinions) is that I will offer a few basic anodizing colors with the option of having ANY COLOR YOU WANT in powder coat. What he told me was that the shop could do a very high quality powder coat that is actually MORE ware resistant than anodizing (essentially would be much less likely to show small dents or scratches). So up to you, but I think the ability to have essentially any color would be cool.  :thumb:

Did he describe his powder coating?  Is it like a Duracoat or Cerakote process?  Because that would be awesome (and way, way better than even hard anodizing).

:thumb:

I guess for me, I would be interested in seeing how much more we would need to add for a powder coat. But it sounds like a cool feature to make our own unique board :)

Would it be possible to see a sample of the powder coat? Anything they have done (doesn't have to be a keyboard) would be nice to get an idea of what it would look like. Cool option if it works!

I would prefer anodization mainly for appearance. Powder coating at thin coats has a textured looking surface that looks more like house paint applied with a roller. Thicker powder coating smooths out but you can see how thick it is around mating surfaces and edges. It looks great on my bicycle frame. But for my keyboard I would rather have the look of anodization.

Or how about PVD coatings? Those seem to be getting popular.

Didn't get any of my three picks for number but I'm mostly here for the gold stabs anyway  :). Pretty happy to see the results of the color poll, looks like we'll get some good choices for anodizing!

Results?

disappointed, Doc. The renders we were shown in IC and early GB phase were like a rainbow - blue, pink, gold... now we learn that this is not the case. That's a bummer, because it basically means anodizing is no longer an option. like DATA mentions above, there are varying qualities of powder coat. Can we verify we are getting Cerakote? If we are, that is good news.

can we get a list of what the manufacturer can do? I am thinking metal flake.....

It's be cool if the prototype was 1/2 anodized and 1/2 powder coated. I don't know much about either process though so it may not even be possible.

So looking at the thread again, FrostyToast submitted 1 hour late and got 42.

I submit at 9:00:02 w/ 42 as my top request, but don't receive it.

Why even have this request system if the rules aren't going to be followed? You could as well just wrote, FrostyToast gets number 42, without making us jump through hoops to request a number. I literally set an alarm at 8:55PM just to be able to submit as close as possible to 9:00PM.

I get that FrostyToast helped you a lot and if you'd like to give him preference, that's totally fine, and I would actually support it. But don't create a number request system, then basically ignore the rules for it. Especially since you told another set of people their numbers, allowed them to swap, a week before you even sent the envelopes out. Actually, I don't care at all about what number I get. It doesn't make a huge deal to me. What I do care about, is the level of preferential treatment given to certain members makes this entire request system feel disingenous.

Regardless, I'm still in this GB b/c it's a beautiful keyboard, and I hope the buy is very successful, but this just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I think there were two people who got their requests reserved, and FrostyToast was one of them. Could be wrong, though.

That said, I am a bit surprised I didn't get my first choice considering I didn't see it mentioned once in the thread, but, of course, that doesn't mean no one else picked it. I was given some hope when Hubbs mentioned that he was surprised how many people would be getting their top choice shortly after the submission form went up, but it seems here that not many are getting their numero unos after all.
My final number was one above my first choice, so if anyone who got 27 would be willing to trade for my 28, I'd greatly appreciate it! We'd have to facilitate the trade through Hubbs, of course.

Tbh, I am not a fan of powder coating. I've done it before when I used to do PC modding. I'd prefer anodization even if we only have few choices. If ever the choices aren't in my list,  I'd probably just get it bare alu and have it anodized by my self. I have local shops here that does anodization anyway. Anodized materials adds this premium feel to it that powder coated material does not. So +1 for anodized case.

1000 times this.  I figured my first choice (42) would be popular.  My second choice (13) got sweetheart dealed out, and I didn't get my third choice.  Apparently, 42 was on double secret reserve too?  A lot of buildup with times and dates of form acceptance to have the chance to play the serial number lottery, and in the end, none of it mattered.

13 was my first choice but I was definitely late to order not that that would have mattered for me I guess. Really should have thought out my 2nd and 3rd choices a bit better tho I guess. iuno

I don't think it's about drama at all. There was just a lot of excitement for the GB, and since the time "mattered", a lot of people took that seriously and to heart. Not only did I set an alarm, but I also changed dinner plans that night with friends, just so I could be absolutely sure I was next to my computer.

However now it turns out that it really was "pick any number up to 57... *Except for 13 and 14... **And also 42", which again, is fine if we were told up front. Of course people are going to feel a little bit down now because it turns out the process wasn't as straightforward or  transparent as any of us believed.
