Can I... jump in on this still? Or will there be a second round in the near future?

Ordering's all over I'm afraid, certainly no plans for another round any time soon. You might well be able to pick up some extras from those who ordered more on classifieds when they eventually ship.

What is wrong with them? Colour, mold quality?

Stabs dont' fit as well as I'd like and color is still not perfect. I understand that 100% color match won't be possible but we can do better.

Sounds like they're pretty close though!

Thanks for keeping us all updated as well as making the effort to ensure the final product is of high quality.

send me a message when these are shipped.
i ordered 10 bars, but probably only care to keep around 6 of them. i will certainly have a white and a black spare.

i live in the netherlands, so shipping cost/time won't be nasty.

The Shine only develops after you start rubbing that keyboard innocently against your groin for some days.

I figured all HHKB owners did that already  ;D .

I just got in on the RealForce deal going on currently on Massdrop... which includes these 4 Topre spacebars. I'm wondering if there's been any delays to these being finished that could impact this drop as well?

Also, if you know Matt30.. I'm wondering how well the color match ended up turning out for the light gray and dark gray specifically. Were they pretty close to the RF dark gray for instance?

I got the final samples.

They are straight with no warping whatsoever. It's a pleasure to type on them, way better than the orignal ABS one. Color matching is till not perfect, but I'll try to ask for another color update for the final version. My goal would be 96% accuracy at least. Also the texture is a pinch smoother than the original maybe, but I actually like it.

The new spacebar mounted on a Leopold 660C, below the original one (with some shine).

It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It seems like those high 90 percentages have a margin of error when dealing with whites and blacks, because they say 94% on the dark grey, but that looks so much more black than dark grey to me. The picture of it on the keyboard isn't a good representation to me because it is very low light.

How bright is the room your PC is in?

you can't f*&#k with math :) It's a very approximate representation for sure. First of all I'm checking against an 8bit RGB color space, which is pretty limited. So a distance of 11 is indeed 95% accuracy but if you think of it, 11 over 256 is not a neglectable amount.

In a room environment, with standard artificial light you can't probably tell the difference once the spacebar is mounted on the keyboard. If you make a 1:1 comparison in good sun light it is clear that the PBT one is darker.

In my opinion the spacebars are pretty good already, but if they give me the chance I'll try to make them even better. Like I said a 96% color match would be very nice.

Even if the black is a little too black... it may look good because it'll match the black dye sub legends more. Could give it a little character  ;)

Anyway, these were available on Massdrop, and it looks like 205 people have voted to run them again (minimum needed is 200), so unless Matt has any objection, it is quite possible that these will rise again!

My HHKB has a noticable patch of shine on the space bar - I'm not complaining for the price I paid for it :)  But I know it's there.  I know it's there.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The original ship date for these on MD was July 30 right? Not trying to rush... you can't rush perfection :) I would be interested to know if that will be pushed back now though... and if so.. by how much?

Long shot, but there perhaps going to be any spares of these Spacebars? :)

No worries here, I'll take quality over speed any day of the week. Thanks for the update!
