I'm still baffled by schools with security guards and such.
New trier hires police :))
We have a cop also. Not exactly the enforcing kinda cop.
We have several fully armed cops and all they do is bust kids who were dumb enough to bring bud to school. On the last day of school for seniors we have the whole ****ing force at school! Honestly it's all a joke, if **** went down I don't think they'd really help.

Fully armed?
Ours have a taser, maybe a 9mm

If it's not guns it's something else.

Doesn't the UK have a knife problem since guns are heavily regulated?
Yeah. Now you need to be 18 to buy a butter knife, and you're not allowed to have a knife over 3 inches long in public. Some people even wanted to ban long kitchen knives.

Good stuff.

I think the proper term is "assault knives"

Same idea as any semi-automatic rifle being an "assault rifle" and any rifle with optics being a "sniper rifle."

More people are killed in the US each year with HAMMERS than are killed with rifles.

Ban hammers.

Never had a policeman or woman come to my school, cept to drop off one of the 6th form boarders who had crashed his car after a visit to the pub...

It depends on the situation but I saw one with a shotgun during a "bust" where they confiscated maybe 4g of bud. Other than that they always have a 9mm and a taser. Winnetka cops have nothing else to do and want to look cool.

Winnetka cops have nothing else to do and want to look cool.

As evidenced by the ticketing of cars parked along the street outside your home. ;)

Exactly and false speeding tickets. I got pulled over doing 33 cruise control set in a 30 and the cop tried to say I was doing 40. I mentioned the cruise control being on and he immediately handed back my info and said I was free to go.

Tbh in the 'Wilds of Wales' knifes are essential for simple navigation, but in the more developed areas of the UK knifes are of no use unless your use is to hurt someone...

I was walking down the hall once, saw a dog. Took the opportunity and went "PUPPY!" in a rather pitch tone and started petting it.

Sorry, but what? Knives are of no use? Do you never have the need to open a package, cut a piece of string, anything along those lines? A knife is probably the most useful tool I carry on a daily basis...

Sorry I was more implying outside, carrying around (for example), if I was trying to suggest to total removal and ban on knifes then I think cooking might ranked higher on a list of reasons not to ban them, than cutting string ;) haha

You shouldn't need to have prepared an agenda of (allowed) knife-related activities to be able to carry one...

My highschool was very lax until 2 idiots drove through the quadruple doors, though a hall and did donuts in the gym.

Then we went from one sleepy, half-drunk security guard to have 3 full-time popo-in-training (1 of which just patrolled outside on golf cart).
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Prepared of what? I can see the logic if your out hunting or in the great outdoors, but in the UK the 'great outdoors' is a small wood populated only with discarded cans of SKOL, what reason do people have to carry a weapon? (A butterfly knife being a good example)

If you allow people to carry knifes etc (the kind that are banned) all that does is force more police action, they need more presence because of the assumed threat and more tools to deal with knifes etc etc...

Like I'm not saying ban outright all knifes, just that the current bans make perfect logical sense. And I don't see why applying that logic dosnt also translate to other items...

If our current laws on knifes and guns allowes the children of the UK to not have to pass through metal detectors and be padded down by policemen just to enter school, it can't be that bad...

Most office personnel won't *need* a blade (thought they can definitely come in handy breaking down boxes etc), but what about people who work more trade skills? Say a carpenter. I don't know about you but when I'm doing doing harder work with my blades, I like a fixed blade or at least a knife with a locking mechanism.

Like I said, I'm not wanting the outlawing of blades or knifes... and again I think the cooking world would probably be more miff'd than a carpenter would if that was what I was saying lol

Although the reason Balisong knifes are banned in most country is super bull**** as they are no more lethal than any other knife.

Knives? You've obviously never been in a Welsh forest. You need a ****ing machete there.

(I carry a knife with me all the time).
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I hear they were going to put metal detectors up but found out it was too much money.
North Miami beach senior high has them. So far, alonzo Tracy doesn't.

Sounds like a normal day in South Florida. Dade or Broward?

This feels like old af news.  Was in hs from 99 - 03 and all but the first semester was a full on backpack/purse ban past the lockers.  Store what you need in locker, get it between classes.  But then, cell phones were 100% banned when I went to school, too.

How the heck am I supposed to sneak in my nudie magazines to share with my friends?  Wtf.

Under your shirt like I used to do at home
Who uses mags now? We all have phones.

It was way more fun to seek around with those nudie mags and than just look it up on the phones.  Takes away the adventure.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

The adventure is not getting caught with a tent.

I feel old: My first Playboy titties was Suzanne Somers (Three's Company era not Step By Step era)
I'm glad I'm older: The majority of the guys in my school carried knifes in their pocket and had a hunting rifle/shotgun in their car/truck. No knife fights broke out and no started shooting. Go figure.

Edit: changed there to their.

Junior now, can confirm that's what happens when the school doesn't have anymore food.
