No backpacks said the school district
« on: Tue, 02 June 2015, 09:58:11 »
It's not like I have a bomb...
They check your bag before school starts and let's you in. However, I had one of those Nike pouches, they checked it said "nah". Gave me a plastic bag for 3 folders and a journal accompanied by a small pouch with pencils. So, what's the point of them holding my empty bag hostage?

I'm still baffled by schools with security guards and such.

When I was in high school, a kid brought a gun to school and had it in his book bag until his friend told a teacher and they took the bag and called the police. After that you could only use see through book bags, and it was so convenient that the school started selling these right after so a lot of people bought them until they found out the school was charging more than Wal Mart. The bags were thin plastic so they always broke too, you cold use mesh bags but they had to be approved, basically if you could see everything in them, and those got caught on everything, and tore all the time too. It was stupid, if I wanted to bring something I could, clear book bag or not, all it did was piss people off.

That's a decent idea actually...

Figure out how to use the plastic bag as a weapon, then they will HAVE to give you your old bag back. Bulletproof plan.

Obviously you should just go to school naked. Backpacks are dangerous. Plastic bags are dangerous. Clothes are dangerous.

I second that.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Bad parenting, mental health, and just down right ****ty people are the problem.

Here's why Security stops don't work

Let's say the Crazy Kid wants to do his Bad Thing..

Now his targets are in a straight line in front of him..

There's no security stop BEFORE the security stop..

Everyone is still screwed..

Please tell me more about how these kids care about gun regulations and precautions.
Banning bags because people can hide dangerous ****,  really? Tell the school board to grow up and realise it's pretty easy to conceal a gun on your person.
It's also pretty easy for one of the more violent and troubled kids to shoot whomever is acting as the security.
You're worsening the learning experience of kids while doing nothing to solve the issue. It's a common theme whereby people come up with solutions that only cause harm.

Demik gets it.  There's also the issue of lack of parental involvement due to not making a living wage combined with poor peer influences in low income areas. And fur middle class parents you have poor gun safety practices combined with poor parenting and **** people.  Mental illness is a huge issue across the board.

I also I wish all guns came with a gun lock and that people had to take a gun safety course with their first gun purchase.

As a knife collector, from what I've heard knife laws in the UK are SUPER strict. If I remember correctly it's something like nothing over a 3" blade and it cannot lock or be a fixed blade or it's completely illegal outside of the house. Can't buy basically ANY knife under 18 (including like a steak knife set). They have knife "surrender bins" on the streets to let you get rid of your illegal knives...

Guns are not the problem..

Guns are only the current-most-easy way to do those "Bad things" with.

Think about the intentions of the Crazed-Kid..

His goal is to maximize damage..

GUNS make that easy and cheap..

HOWEVER,  even if we took away all the guns..

Maximizing damage is still what the Crazed-Kid wants to do.

He's not gonna be stupid and go try and do the same thing with a knife, because he knows he can't

He's going to go on google,  and look up some chemistry... and buy precursors..

You have to GET TO THE Crazed-Kid first..  choice of destruction in today's society is both plentiful, endless, and over the counter...

Oh no. Not the eggs. Anything but those. Truly something we need to set up precautions for.
A simple bag check wouldn't be too useful either. Easy to simply use it after it has been checked. Just find another temporary spot for your ****. This is fairly simple stuff, not like you have to be a criminal mastermind to figure out how to get around these systems.

It's not only weapons though, egging teachers' cars are still a thing. But I could have done that last week. I thought the point of the administration checking my damn bag was to approve me to carry it. Not to give me a damn plastic bag...

I guess I could have just gone through where the buses are.... No backpack stealing admins.

If it's not guns it's something else.

Doesn't the UK have a knife problem since guns are heavily regulated?
Yeah. Now you need to be 18 to buy a butter knife, and you're not allowed to have a knife over 3 inches long in public. Some people even wanted to ban long kitchen knives.

Good stuff.

When I was in high school, a kid brought a gun to school and had it in his book bag until his friend told a teacher and they took the bag and called the police. After that you could only use see through book bags, and it was so convenient that the school started selling these right after so a lot of people bought them until they found out the school was charging like 15$ more than Wal Mart. The bags were thin plastic so they always broke too. It was stupid, if I wanted to bring something I could, clear book bag or not, all it did was piss people off.

its almost like guns are a problem...

Guns aren't a problem.

Bad parenting, mental health, and just down right ****ty people are the problem.

But let's blame guns, because it's easier than taking personal responsibility.

I don't disagree with you, but I don't think the two 'solutions' are mutually exclusive options

Nope :/ least not that I'm aware off, or that causes metal detectors to be put on school doors etc

I think the proper term is "assault knives"

Same idea as any semi-automatic rifle being an "assault rifle" and any rifle with optics being a "sniper rifle."

More people are killed in the US each year with HAMMERS than are killed with rifles.

I'm still baffled by schools with security guards and such.
New trier hires police :))
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

We have several fully armed cops and all they do is bust kids who were dumb enough to bring bud to school. On the last day of school for seniors we have the whole ****ing force at school! Honestly it's all a joke, if **** went down I don't think they'd really help.
