Went on Massdrop Jan 2016, failed.

Talks are happening again to try and hit the MOQ this time.

We're just waiting around for something to happen.

I would. I'd be happy to put 10-15k down because I know this would be the best keyset made. Wouldn't do it alone though :-[

If I even had permission to take it solo then I'd get planning right away haha

Massdrop seems to be trending record sales with each new set they add. This set would REALLY hit people's nostalgia!  I know it does for me!  It would be the next record-topper for sure.

I hope that's the case. Unfortunate that GMK Retro failed. I think timing is key, making sure it drops when people actually have money to get it.

I think there are way more people with nostalgia for the SNES than the Commodore.  But yeah, here's hoping!

Lack of ic and expensive set was the cause of its failure..

I think GMK Retro failed because it looked like complete s*** compared to the SA version.

I think it looked fine. I think it mostly was just the way the kits were handled, plus the renders weren't even properly done by the time the drop went. It just wasn't set up properly and rushed into the GB phase.

This was run in late 2015 but at that time the moq is still 500 and people were hold off to spend more money during holiday season. With gmk moq nowadays is 150, this will surely hit the mark if this get a rerun..

Is it worth making a new IC thread and gathering input/gauging interest? Or do we feel like just resubmitting everything as-is to Massdrop is the way to go?

They'll add a $30-40 markup though :(

It's why I ran my group buy myself.  GMK sets of this size run $100-105 at cost...  the $150-160 we see these posted at is because the designer fronts the money rather than doing it as a group buy.  It's the reward they get for the risk of fronting the money.

It would be nice to see this run again, I jumped on the buy early when it ran before, but my only hope is that the RGBY mods get removed from the standard set, or are demoted to the spare keys in it and are not the default.  Being that purple plays a large role in the set, I would think the set was for/inspired by the NTSC SNES, but the RGBY accents feel out of place.  I would assume they were all inspired from the super famicom or PAL SNES, but they just make the pallette too busy.  The set name is generic enough to not imply region, but it would be nice if with included options you could at least choose a color scheme matching one of the regions and not be forced to have a mismatch of things.  Yes, some third party SNES accessories blurred the lines, but who cares about those..

Then again, anyone who loved or at the least had the super famicom or PAL SNES is probably wondering where all the purple came from and is wishing all those purple accents were tones of grey...  I guess you cant please everyone..

I understand it's the reward they get for the risk. But there are so many people wanting this, it's probably lower odds to fail than Trump getting in office, Patriots comeback, and Brexit :))

Personally, I think the best way to run this would be running a group buy with the guarantee of success. For example, the MOQ is 250 and we have a user or two (hey) that will already fund the 250. We then start the GB knowing it will be a success, and be sold later on, but people can join before we decide how many sets total. So if 250 sets are bought beforehand, then it means the users putting money down for success don't have to any more. If there are only 200 bought, then the users buy the remaining 50 etc.

Settling for the large markup and limiting the quantity would be silly when we know this'll be a success. It's just having the balls to do it (and intellis permission).

Hello again! I am really happy that everyone is so excited about this set, and I appreciate all the supportive PMs.

Good news: I am working with Livingspeedbump to update the set, and we've finalized the drop plans with Massdrop. The drop should be happening sometime in Q2 and I will provide more updates when I have them.
Please consider carefully before you decide to comment, for Jesus.

Nice to hear this is actually in the works again.  Since you're looking to update the set, I'd like to throw in a request for 6u spacebar for the HHKB kit.  Also it'd be nice to see the extra keys for the 23U-style numpads that use 1u 0/00/+/row 2 -/etc, but the 6u space is what I really care about.
