Sweet. Shame about the Gaterons, hopefully they offer it with Clears too.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I feel like this is an April's fools joke, I've wanted this exact same layout for years and I can't believe someone is actually making it. Was a huge fan of the Microsoft ergo boards back in the day, always longed for a mechanical alternative.

Yes that's what I was referring to. However, I can't see any hinges / docking(?) parts in the OP photo. Also what happens with custom sets? Do I stick in two shift keycaps now?

The space bar is definitely a bit of a concern. I'm hoping if these get a full release I can con Bunny into getting JT Keycaps to run some in common colours.

I'd say so. Probably caps lock, fn lock and the led to signify using the bottom right mods as arrows. At least these were the old indicators on my Pure.

That's what I don't like about it :).

I know you're "supposed" to hit 6 with your right hand but that doesn't even make sense..it is closer to your left hand...

Yeah I was pretty firmly set on not buying any more boards now I have a couple of customs but if the firmware is good and they're available with Cherry switches then this will get me.

Doesn't seem to have any of the guide rods or interlocking mechanism that the UHK have. I know this is probably a prototype, but I'm also surprised that both halves are wired for usb completely independently. I think that would force drivers to be installed and do more work to utilize cross-half chords to work.

Looks like it could be a problem for some people with laptops since it takes up two USB ports. I can also see complications trying to put on custom key sets with a split space bar. My main question is how do the two boards lock together for normal use or travel?

The split keyboard thing doesn't do it for me.  What I'd like to see Vortex develop is a super easy to use GUI app for quickly programming the keyboard on the fly; with a load/save/clone feature to quickly reprogram multiple pokers at a time.

That and a Poker w/ Purple Gaterons.

I wouldn't necessarily like an app to program because then I'll need to download it on each computer I use and have it programmed through the software rather built into the keyboard that works on the fly no matter what computer you plug it into.

They sure could but I think their current theory is to have the two halves completely separate. It's still in prototype stage so I wouldn't count on the current looks and features.

I don't care if you can program it using the two methods and you can always host the app on a personal site somewhere or put it on a flash drive.  Perhaps even web driven?

Looks like they're using a TSSR cable for the interconnect and the Poker 2 style plastic case? Just an experiment or maybe something that will turn into a real product?

Crazy talk. How is it possible to not want a split space bar? Even if you think you have no need for it, it certainly wouldn't do any harm as if both sides produce a space it would be the same as any other board.

On the other hand, with this keyboard maybe you might just think of a use for your left thumb instead of inefficiently doing nothing. Perhaps a backspace. Perhaps an easier Shift key which doesn't need pinkies. Maybe even a SpaceFN key.

The critical thing would be to have independently settable codes for left and right space bars.

Hello,

Today Vortex posted this picture on their facebook page.

At first i just noticed the dual space bar (which is great and all keyboads should adopt this), but there is also a separation above, between 5 and 6 keys. So this looks like a fully split keyboard.

Later today they updated another photo, confirming the 60% split poker!.

Regards!

Don't know about dante, but I hit space between V and B, slightly closer towards B, which is too close to the split in AFAIK all of the split spacebar boards. I wouldn't mind a small spacebar, but only when it doesn't force me to curl up my thumbs.

Kills my interest in it.  That 6 on the left was critical for me for gaming.  On the right?  I'll just find another board.

You'd be able to use your left thumb with this board I would have thought. You could probably argue it might be better if the spacebar on this design was split exactly between the B and the N though.

I don't want it because you can't buy a new keyset and saw the spacebar in half....
Hmmm I get that people like to customize their keyboards... but still... when you consider the potential benefits of two comfortable thumb keys.
Surely having much improved function would always outweigh the relative triviality of improved appearance? For me it would anyway.
Plus, if split keyboards became more common, it would soon become easy to source replacement space keys!
