Just got off the phone with Geminicomputers.com. It seems that they will have this product in stock in about 10-15 days. Those who want one can order one now or wait until the units are in stock. The part number is still a good one according to person I had over the phone.

pft, you're always on the phone with gemini :p

If they had a brown cherry model, I would order a whole crate of them for my friends, family, and well-wishers. Don't feel like spending twice the dough at datacal, though it is incredibly tempting.
keyboards!

I got a new G80-3000LSCEU-2 today.
I used for 2 hours or so at work, replacing temporarily my Filco with browns.

I'm thinking about writing a review. My first impression was "wow, this is  crap".
In two hours however i liked it a lot. The keyboard has it's own cosy character and an old school flavor.

My only complaint about it now are the switches. I wish they were brown not blue. It is a good keyboard nonetheless.

if they have any inventory left when spring break comes, I'll probably end up with a pair of them. This strategy leaves me with an extra 'board to swap some black stems into.
keyboards!

After I got a call from the local Cherry rep, he was supposed to be working with a distribution partner on getting me those G80-1863s. Since then, I haven't heard back from them. Oh well...

Completely OT, I just got an e-mail from a buyer titled "BEAVER PRODUCTS." Nice.

Hell, they were talking MOQs of 10.  I told them I would buy 50 and pawn them off on you schmucks.  Doesn't look that's going to happen anymore.  They were getting me all excited, too.  Bastards.

So the keyboard advertised here uses black or blue switches?

Blue.  Datacal is the only retailer with a brown version.

What I have found out in this whole process of trying to get G80-1800s is that no one really seems to deal with Cherry USA directly.  Cherry has regional distributors, manufacturers, etc. that handle retailers.  I spoke to a rep. that handles Cherry products but doesn't work for Cherry, and he directed me to a few major distributors (which I still need to call) that handle OEM orders.  It seems that Cherry USA is not really a company/division but a network of USA-based distributors/sales companies.

BTW, Datacal gets their Cherry 'boards (the G80-3000s, at least) from Germany.

I think he's a cheap knockoff.

I'm not saying that Cherry USA doesn't exist, it's just that it seems that they don't directly deal with people.  The company, insomuch as manufactuing and distributing, seems to be non-existent.

I suspect Cherry USA doesn't deal with keyboards at all, only industrial switches and automotive stuff. Probably the entire keyboard business is handled by the Germans.
Typing on blues.
