Where do I get a Korean Custom?
« on: Thu, 24 September 2015, 16:06:05 »
I mean, the title more or less says it all. I'm looking for a Korean Custom, but I'd also like to know if there are any alternatives to GON keyboards, as the Acrylic center section on the case doesn't really do it for me. So yeah, where do I find other Korean Custom boards?

Thanks!

What is OTD?

I would suggest finding which layout best suites you then browse classifieds, GB's, and other forums for one that is to your liking. There really isn't no clean and simple answer, it takes time.

There's a spreadsheet around somewhere listing a ton of them, retail and market prices, with pics. Was super helpful when I was looking for one. On mobile now but it's around this forum somewhere.

Wow I never heard of this list, sounds like it would be insanely useful. I'm curious as well now haha.

Yes, if anyone finds this, please link it :)

(I'll do some looking myself too, and I'll post it if I find it, but if anyone actually knows where it is, a link would be greatly appreciated!)

I mean, I've never seen that before, but that's very very helpful, and from what was described earlier, this is exactly what was mentioned. Thanks!!!

Oh ok I thought it was a spreadsheet of who's selling what korean keyboard, not just a list of all korean keyboards. Either way still a helpful link, cheers.  :thumb:

Did you mean persistent sellers like GON and Winkeyless? AFAIK those are the only ones that maintain constant stock of their items and have a usable web store. Everything else is done group-buy style, usually on the korean forums. There's some chinese stuff too that can be had through Taobao and occasionally through groupbuys here.

I thought it was like a community-editable spreadsheet that was specific to korean keyboards, something like a submarket.

I was going to suggest: Korea!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hue :P

That quote in your Sig is very interesting! I like it a lot. Honestly, that's probably a large part of the reason that I feel no need to change out my current Dell Studio XPS laptop, as it has one of the most tactile keyboards I've ever experienced from a rubber dome. I like it quite a lot.

Believe it or not, a couple of years ago someone here really did ask "where do the Korean custom keyboards come from", and someone DID answer "Korea".

And yes, quote from Eiiti Wada is awesome quote :)

I mean, if it isn't from Korea, it's just a custom keyboard, isn't it? :P (Speaking of, I'm thinking about just making my own board, and seeing how that goes...)
