Original Happy Hacking Keyboard (HHKB) Model PD-KB02
« on: Thu, 05 November 2015, 12:28:58 »
Hey All -
Found this keyboard on my local craigslist for $10.  Was thinking about picking it up, and was wondering if anyone has used one before and could shed some light on its construction/quality.  Thanks!

I have one. It's a regular rubber dome over membrane keyboard, but with the awesome HHKB layout. It's not Topre, but it's not bad, either. Definitely worth a try for $10. You can always sell it here if you don't like it.

hell yeah pick it up.

the domes are meh and honestly not that great to type on.

but the novelty factor is huge!

you can easily sell it for $60+ on here depending on condition and that is the low end.

I wish I lived where you lived so I could pick it up  :-X

Haha alright I will definitely try to pick it up and report back with the quality and how I like it :thumb:

Thanks for the quick input!  I agree that the novelty factor is cool and something to add to my small collection!  I thought with that price it was a must grab!

It will be excellent experience trying the HHKB layout at minimal cost.

If you find the layout pleasing, you can look for an HHKB 2 Pro :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It looks like it is in good shape, too. We've seen a couple of REALLY yellowed ones over the last few years on here.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

I would get it for the price without hesitation.
Some people really prefer it to Topre and it still keeps good price in secondhand market in Japan. I can understand their preference, even though I'm satisfied with my Topre HHKB.

But I believe it is definitely not for people who want heavy clear tactile switch.

Definitely nice to try at $10.  I've seen many on here, so it can't be all bad.  And if you don't like it, I'm sure you'll get your $10 back out of it.  :thumb:

For ten bucks, a keyboard with a singular layout, worth it, just skip a couple of soft drinks to compensate the expense.
