paint acrylic?

Any ideas how to paint acrylic to get a durable result? I have a transparent acrylic case, which is rather ugly.

If it is transparent, then paint the back side.
That way, the actual paint surface is always protected.

+1 for intelligence :-) Anyway, I'd like to paint the side parts as well. So I'm curious if there is a method of painting the surface of transparent acrylic layers in a durable manner?

If you plan on painting the outside you need to sand and prime then paint (spray can?). Acrylic can be fairly durable if you do it right. PM me if you want more details, I need to go to sleep lol

I've also had very good luck with acrylic based spray paints.

Thanks for your posts. Especially Krylon Fusion sounds interesting, as it's description says it's made for plastic surfaces, and, no sanding or priming is necessary as well! I hope it is sold in Europe somewhere ...

I would at least sand it slightly, paint adheres better than a perfectly smooth surface.
