Need feedbacks on Gateron Clear.
« on: Mon, 25 July 2016, 09:34:55 »
Hello guys, I have just followed the whitefox groupbuy. I decided to pick the Gateron Clear switches to go with the keyboard. I would like to know what is ur opinion about these gateron clear switches. Which one is better for gaming Gateron Clear or Cherry Red? Thanks.

It depends which you like the most - no one here can tell you what you like.

The gateron clears actuate SUPER easy. I made a board with them and had a little bit of trouble with accidental actuation with just resting my hand on the keyboard. Personally I would pick the Cherry reds over the gateron clears after that experience. You may not end up having any problems tho /shrug

Is gateron red any different than the cherry counter part?

I'd say a little smoother.

I've used gateron clears they are too light with their stock springs.

I also use cherry reds at work daily and gateron reds at home.

I prefer cherry red as well. Gateron clear feels way too light in my opinion.

Oddly I prefer Gateron clears to Cherry reds. I love the light actuation on the clears. I just replaced a numpad with clears and in the middle of building a 60% with clears too. The clears feel smoother than cherry reds too.

Like others have said, clears frankly are just too light for most people. Especially on stabilized switches, the slider's return feels slow.

i ran with Gateron Clears for about 4 months

i thought they were great for a while, however i began to notice just how easy they were to actuate accidentally

i really noticed this once i started playing Overwatch, where i'd sometimes press Q (for ultimate) accidentally...

i quickly spring swapped to 62g bottom out weighted springs

I generally prefer tactile switches.  Therefore I have not used Cherry Reds with any length of time.  However, I now that the Gateron clears are  extremely light and even resting your hands on the home row can result in accidental keystrokes.  However, the Cherry Reds I have tried have been extremely scratchy.  It's almost like the springs of a mattress that make the sound of "eeek eerrrr eeeeekk  errrr," when shifting your weight or bouncing up and down.  The Cherry's will  provide a little more resitance, but the Gaterons will be smoother.  These are all things to consider when making your decision.  Good luck.

Leopold FC660M- my new favorite, right out of the box.

Gateron clear take less force (theyre really light) but have a slower rebound. They are a bit smoother than cherry switches too. I would probably choose gateron clears just because they are more interesting than MX reds. But its all about what you like and you wont know until you try them.
If you live in AZ you can try my keyboards. I usually keep plenty of different ALPS and MX and buckling springs.

I was on gateron clears for awhile and it was too light for me. Now using cherry clears. Haha

I would suggest going with the Gateron Reds over Cherry reds and the clears. Gaterons are generally smoother and the Whitefox plate supports switch-top opening so you could always swap the springs later.

I just built up a mx-mini pcb with gateron clears (with a red as spacebar).  Feels great, similar to the Plum 35g topre-clone.  The bottom out is a bit different, of course, even with o-rings on the clears, but the fingers just fly over the keys.  If you like light linear switches, clears could work for you.  Using MX blacks now almost feels like exercise...

Are gateron clears tactile?  I thought that they were going to be like MX Clears, but they feel nothing like that.  As others have said, they're really light.  And I didn't feel anything tactile about them at all.

Nope, gateron clears are linear. I use them on a number of my keyboards for modifiers, and my pinkies love them. However even just resting your finger tip on them will cause actuation. They are nearly too light to use.

Ah... so my fault on my research on that, or I'd not have gotten them.  I think I just assumed if it was named after a switch already in production, they'd have been similar to that.  Well, at least there's a drop on MD for Gats going on.  I tried them, and was glad that I'd not put them into a board first.

Hmm, i touch my keys but generally don't push down when on the home row, so I rarely get random key presses.   They are just a light, smooth switch.  If you are heavy handed, the switches may not be for you.

oops. I made this mistake as well... glad I found this thread before that white fox drop ended. Just edited my order to cherry mx clear instead.

There actually are 67g Gateron tactile clears, but they are only available through Winkeyless.kr . I have heard the feel is almost indistinguishable from 67g Zealios.

I have tried Gateron Red recently. I did feel light, maybe I will go with black.
