Help: Slight key alignment issue
« on: Tue, 30 August 2016, 09:35:13 »
So I just bought my first Topre, Realforce 87U 45g. So far I love it. But I after using it for a couple days I noticed that the R key is tilted compared to the others. I wouldn't say I have clinical OCD but I am indeed obsessing and compulsing about it. I tried taking off the R keycap and replacing it with another keycap, and it does seem to be the switch that is misaligned. What should I do? I'm pretty sure that it's not considered a defect. Does anyone else have a similar problem? Should I just get used to it? Take it apart and try to align the switch properly? Appreciate any help or feedback. Thanks :)

If you bought it new, don't void the warranty. Just return it. I haven't noticed anything like that on my RF87UB55, but haven't looked for it, either.

Not sure how you'd fix it other than swapping stems. Might be a reason to put NovaTouch stems in it.

You might pull caps and see if the switch housings all seem to be seated properly in the plate.

Thanks for the reply.

I did buy it new, but unfortunately the return policy at EliteKeyboards is that they don't accept returns. I think they do repairs, but I think that's only for serious problems. I could email them, though.

Maybe I could sell it in the classifieds to someone who doesn't care about this type of stuff, and put the money towards a new one? Although that seems like a little too much time and effort put into a problem that isn't really much of a real problem..

We've seen this on HHKB and Realforces over the years. It isn't common at all, but it happens.

Picture would really help. Take one with keycap on, one with it off, and one with a few caps off around it?
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Never noticed it. And, I might add, I don't care!  :p

The switch itself appears to be parallel with the adjacent ones.  I don't know much about Topre construction, but could it be a warped stem that's causing the keycap to be crooked?
