Thanks! PM sent - hopefully you got it. It said the message was sent successfully but I can't see it in my sent messages.

Did you hit the checkbox labeled with "Save a copy in my outbox"?

« Reply #151 on: Wed, 23 November 2016, 18:56:41 »
The order is now with the factory and they're reviewing, tallying things up, and ordering assembly hardware. They estimate a 1-2 month lead time at our order quantity and they will send me pics of the cases before shipment. As I have news, I'll share it here.

If you're among the people who missed out and want to keep in touch for any potential future run, you can join this email list, but at this point I'm must focusing on getting this one done successfully, so no promises if there will ever be another run. :)

Sorry; both my GeekHack and personal inboxes are swamped at the moment, but I'm slowly working my way through the backlog. ;)

Sooo Regret I did not join this groupbuy and now I got a novatouch. I hope there would be another round of groupbuy or some left over even if they are B stocks.

I ordered the packing/shipping materials today, just to get a head start on everything--it came to about $400. But otherwise all seems to be going well. The shop is working on the final CNC program now and will be ordering our aluminum stock within the week.

I'm a little behind on my PMs at the moment, but feel free to PM or email me and I'll try to figure something out for you (and anyone else in a similar situation). I have a couple spare prototypes on hand now, and will likely have a very small handful of extras once the run is complete. I'll just start a list of people who missed out but wanted in. When spares become available, I will just go down the list and give priority to the people who PM'd me first.

Haha. I feel your pain. I tried really hard to find ways of shipping these less expensively, but ultimately this was the best as I could do. Believe it or not, even at $75, for three of these heavy cases I believe I'm still slightly subsidizing the cost of shipping.

In other news, I've asked the factory to try to take some photos and maybe even a video during prodution, so with any luck I'll be able to share some production media here in the next few weeks before they even ship! :)

So what's everyone's plans for their case?

I was going to put my silenced Novatouch with Pulse SA in it. I personally think SA caps sound and feel great on the NT.

Latest update from the factory: estimated completion date is around January 7. It'll still take some time after that for the cases to make their way to me and then to be shipped out again, but we're still roughly on target. Hopefully all continues to go according to plan. :)

The group buy itself was just under 100. I don't know how that fares on the scale of GeekHack group buys, but it was a pretty healthy number I think, and around what the survey results predicted in the end. I know if the numbers had been much lower that the factory wouldn't have been happy with my arrangement with them allowing me to offer three colors and upgrades to one-off colors, but as it is I think they're perfectly content with the order. (Normally, most factories in China won't even talk to you if you're ordering fewer than 1000 of anything.) I've asked them to try to shoot some photos of the production process. Based on my previous experiences with this company, that will probably mean some low-quality cell phone snapshots, but better than nothing. I'll share any such media as I have it.

Thanks again everyone for helping to make this happen! It has been (and will be) a lot of work, but it has also been a lot of fun. Oh, and incidentally, too all of you who left nice comments in the "note" field of the checkout: I read them all and really appreciate it. :)

So what's everyone's plans for their case?

Getting hypersphere rings, a dyesub PBT ISO set (Quartz maybe, still unsure) and I'll try to place a micro inside the case and pass the output of the keyboard through it, want to make it programmable  :thumb:

Good news: the CNC machining is now all complete and the finishes are currently being applied (including bead blasting before pigments are added), with anodizing being the one that takes longest. The factory will get the anodized cases back on 13 January, and then the cases will be quality checked and packed (adding a few more days) and then sent to me in the USA for individual shipment to group buy participants. So I think we're roughly on track for everything. It'll be a bit of a scramble for me to get everything out the door by the end of January, but I think I can do it, or thereabouts. (Hopefully there will be no hold-ups at customs coming into the US.) Exciting stuff!
