I know this thread has gone cold. Any updates? Is this set still moving forward? I hope so, because I love it and want to see it made.

Boardwalk compatibility would look dope with 1.5u Katakana mods.

Yeah, I loved this set when the IC first went up, so I hope it's not dead!

From the Project Keyboard Discord:
Quote
Next thing to do will be a nice deskmat, maybe an Artisan (Rama?), and maybe even ortho support.

I am still working on an exact GB date. The plan is to launch in April. Not sure about that date yet since I don‘t want another similar themed keyset at the same time.

Did not find a link to the discord channel for this, but it would be awesome to get an update here from the host of the IC/GB.

Also, just shamelessly bumping to get Ortho Traditional Kit some more attention :)

Only want my hands on this kit!

Kits update!

I am back! Sorry for the lack of updates in past months. I had to decide which option would be the best to implement the Katakana mods into the base kit without going too far with the number of new molds. So here they are

Kits

バリュー VALUE

クラリティ CLARITY

プレサビング PRESERVING

What has changed?
I changed the font. The Katakana are now more rounded to match the latin counterpart better. They look like they came straight from GMK.
I've also implemented the most requested change and put the Katakana mods into the base kit while I've created a new kit for the beloved icon mods. I've also added basic Ortho and 40s staggered support to the spacebar kit, since this was also quite often demanded.

I know that this is a long shot, but would you consider having a 1.5u Shift key? After seeing the layout of the Evolv keyboard, it really makes the difference having all the nav cluster aligned that way.
Either way, I am looking forward to this keyset!

I know you aren't 100% satisfied with my decision for Ortho support, but it is impossible to consider all wishes without to go overboard with the keys, molds, costs etc. I had of course do to some compromises otherwise there is no other solution. The reason why I didn't add a separate Ortho/40s kit is because of the usual low numbers and the vendors have to buy them out. But overall, I appreciate your interest :thumb:

The english Alt key is an abbreviation for Alternate (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_key). And with the japanese phonetic spelling you pronounce it as an o instead of an a.

This set will use OG cherry arrows, and the modifier keys will be centered like in the render. They should make a straight line without ruining the aesthetics of that beautiful board. Don't worry, the legends won't be out of place at least in my opinion

Yeah, I am aware of biip's set. And since I don't want to rival with his set, I lean to launch the GB in May. Good point!

Sorry for the confusion. I was actually talking about the spacing of the nav cluster on a 75% keyboard. Please see pics for reference  ;D

Excellent update.

The only small detail I'd point out is the lack of a white-on-blue vertical ("ISO") Enter in the Clarity kit, which would force the use of the blue-on-white one if going with an all-icons style.

I suggest dropping the various R1 1u backspaces. Generally speaking, it's a seldom used key and dropping it will help save keys across a couple of kits.

Also, what's the R1 1u dash-inside-of-dotted-box supposed to be?

I assumed most people would rather use the blue on white than the white on blue enter. If that's really what you are looking for, I will consider it and add them

As psxndc already explained it, I included all keys for a proper ISO Japanese layout. That's the theme for this set, so I won't likely drop them.

The practical use of these 1u keys is for HHKB layout and other layouts with a divided backspace.

Here is an older render as example

One minor question/request: the 1u blue Enter key in the Preserving kit is the only Enter key without a white counterpart. Was that intentional?

Yes that's intended. I thought that would look a bit out of place because of the smaller 1u key. If you don't like it this way I will consider it

I think it looks fine with the base kit.
This might require new tooling and will affect cost?
Also, text might not fit 1u keys.

I don't want my voice to be the deciding factor here, but after looking at the white escape and white ISO enter render, I'm ok without it. It was just something I noticed. Thank you for considering the feedback!

I don‘t have any plans to add a novelty kit because I think it really doesn‘t need it. This will also be certainly better for your wallet I guess haha

The modifier are english terms transliterated in the japanese phonetic spelling. The japanese language uses many loanwords (gairaigo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gairaigo), most of them are of english origin. Loanwords are usually written in Katakana, that‘s why we use Katakana here instead of Hiragana and Kanji

You probably mean that symbol that looks like a mouth: ロ. That’s the japanese 'ro'. It’s used for ISO layouts and for Alice layouts and acts as an additional B. The FN key is the メニュー key. And the 1u counterpart is this little guy here

Love the blue on this set, but Japanese-only keys makes this hard for me. Did you ever consider an add-on kit with latin alphas or duo language caps?
