Keyboards / Re: Vintage keyboard- not working
« Last post by isadoraabhaya on Wed, 09 July 2025, 12:13:47 »
An associate of mine knows that I am a keyboard aficionado and gifted me a Dell AT101W that he had lying around.  It worked when last used a long time ago.  It requires a PS2 connection so I purchased an adapter, but even with the adapter Windows does not recognize that a device is plugged in.  I don't know if the board is dead, if it's a driver issue, or maybe an issue with the adapter.  It's possible Windows is very fickle about the adapter used or it is defective.

I'd like to use the board for a bit but am not really crazy about the switches used.  I will probably end up selling it for parts or as pre-owned if I can get it to work.  I'd like to have someone else enjoy it instead of it becoming E-waste.

Unfortunately, I get a message "Forbidden" when I try to post an image. Thanks

Group Buys and Preorders / Re: [GB] DCS SMRT - Now shipping!
« Last post by Piperaceae on Wed, 09 July 2025, 11:58:04 »
The last vendor to have stock of this has sold out, and SMRT is officially history now, one year to the week since the IC launched. But this isn't the end; I have plans for an eventual round 2 "remix" someday that reshuffles the four classic colors, plus a dye-sub Alps version sooner (it's 3rd in line behind a couple other designs in the pipeline).

A sneak peek at Alps SMRTAleck in development

In the interim, if you'd like matched shinethrough LED keys, this IC may interest you:

I haven't had connectivity issues, but maybe that is region specific. Also, I haven't wanted to post anything that requires a moderator's approval. I think they are looking for new moderators.

Apart from that, I am glad the bots and automation software is still noticeable. I have wondered how we will communicate if it ever gets to a point that we have a difficult time truly knowing what we are talking to. Will we need some form of certification authority which verifies that we are human beings in the real world, and that certificate is attached to all of our posts? But of curse someone could sell (or lose) their cert to someone else who in turn uses it in some software spamming tool.

In other words, at the extreme end with software that is perfectly indistinguishable from humans, we would need a whole infrastructure built around validating actual humans and their messages lest we just chat with bots 'til the end of time.

And that also comes with a ton of issues, including one of privacy and anonymity. How can we continue to communicate anonymously online if we have to have some sort of an equivalent of a notary public giving a stamp of approval on our huamanness?

Anyway, lucky thing we're not there yet.

Is there any update on the group buy, guys?

Estimated ship time is around May now, according to their discord channel.
This ages poorly. It's July now...

Definitely not a good look, and the gb runner being MIA for a bit there and making excuses does give off that vibe...but I will with hold my judgement for a slight bit more.

Making Stuff Together! / Re: Gerber Check please??
« Last post by dinobx on Wed, 09 July 2025, 10:09:13 »
having a GND plane and nothing to drive it.  But considering this is getting a controller board soldered to it, I figured that was acceptable.

by that are you saying that the GND plane is not actually grounded? Controller boards all have GND pins that you should connect to the GND plane. Otherwise if you wish for a review keep in mind that reviewing gerber files is more complicated because a lot of information especially the schematic is lost, whereas reviewing your source files is more straightforward. Maybe consider joining the keyboard atelier server and ask for a review there if you haven't already.

Interest Checks / Re: [IC] PBS Granite

I think it's just a combination of Matt3o liking the Amiga, and it not being protected the way the Commodore logo is. Amiga's logos were the rainbow checkmark and checkered boing ball, while the A is just a letter in ITC Garamond. Granted they used the font for their wordmark, but preventing someone from making a Garamond A would be problematic for anyone typing in that font.

I am curious as to the history of adding the Commodore Amiga logo to the keys.

I'd be down for all of them other than Lam Alert (I went with Red Alert in that GB) if this runs! GL with it OP!
