* mfchill has offered to do the ferrite bead soldering on all our daughterboards. I'm not sure how you do this digitally, but if the opportunity comes,  give him a pat on the back or something, we are extremely grateful for this.
* Cases have arrived, and anodization quality is below what we are comfortable with shipping out. While we ran QC on units from factory photos, we remarked that some of the cases looked like they had been affected by noticeable streaking, and our manufacturer representative assured us that they would be re-finished to meet our quality expectations. On unboxing the crate, it looks like they had re-finished the specific units we had pointed out, and not the rest of the batch. We've weighed our options, and have elected to pay to have Jake of P3D Store kote them in the colors they were manufactured in (he will be handling the matching). If you ordered black, you get black, if you ordered blue you get blue, and so on, no swaps, no custom colors per-customer. This means there's going to be another inevitable delay involved as units get sent over to Jake to be re-finished and back, as we’re not comfortable with shipping out something that looks like brushed aluminum. This is frustrating for us as it is for you, but we're trying our best to get something on your desk that isn't disappointing.
I would ask that you not send Jake or Alas a deluge of DMs asking about if you can get your case upgraded to a different color, as I don't want to volunteer Jake and Alas for any extra accounting+tracking, and I don't want to make any promises that other people have to work toward keeping. By my understanding, this is a back-to-back transaction, no room for customization of any kind.

Thank you all for your patience and bearing with us.

Good arguments LLann,  let's just STOP playing sports, or even going outside.

We should just make 2 buildings,  1 where you live, and the other is Costco. Just a robo conveyor belt between the two, and distribution droids.

The matrix can't come soon enough.

Keyboards / Vintage Switch Tester (to see if they work, not how they feel)
« Last post by waldorf120 on Tue, 28 March 2023, 14:46:44 »
I'm working with a number of different vintage switches and I want to test if they work before I solder them into a board.  I have a multimeter with alligator clip leads but it's cumbersome to hook the leads up each time to test for connectivity.  I feel like there should be a better "hot swap" solution out there but I'm not working with Cherrys or their clones so the Kaihl hot swap sockets won't work for me.  I tried googling for "switch tester" but all I get for results are acrylic matrices to plop switches into to test key feel.  Hence why I am posting here in the hopes that someone knows the solution to my problem.

The particular switches I am working with are Alps SKCC, Mitsumi Type 1 standard mechanicals, and SMK J-M0404 tall stem uprights.  All I need is a simple tester with a voltage source, a resistor, an LED, and a spot to stick a switch in between them that can accept multiple different footprints.

]We're going to have a trans sports league over time.
Also, most physical sports are kinda dumb and boring to watch.
Esports will be the great unifier.
Trans people are an extremely small portion of the population (and even less so in sports) and it's not always the advantage in women's sports people seem to think. Yes, there are places where it's an advantage, but even when it is how much depends on many factors. It's complicated but it's also far less a problem than the media would have you believe. There will never be a trans sports league because it's too few people and the performance spectrum is too wide.

Esports will not be an equalizer for the same reason sports in general are going to become more and more of a problem...
We've entered an age where we can make the human body better at specific things than it is naturally either through drugs or physical modification.  People using drugs to reverse aging (yes it's a thing now), prosthetic legs that allow you to run faster, doping like Lance Armstrong...  In Esports, reaction time and hand/eye coordination will be manipulated, if it's not already being done but we also have caught people cheating with aimbots and such embedded in mice.

A GREAT many sports are already only competitive if you cheat in some form.
There's a documentary called Icarus (2017) about the cycling doping scandal and to say it's widespread is an understatement and not just cycling.  Even if you think you have an idea how bad it is based on Lance Armstrong, you're way way off. Seriously, watch that film, it's really good, and scary what these people are doing, I'm amazed more haven't dropped dead from it.

Just a few examples...
2016 entire Russian Olympic Track and Field was banned for mass doping which was state funded.
2011 World Track and Field Championship found 30% of competitors were doping, external review says it's probably closer to 45%
List of cycling doping issues... INSANE
List of doping at olympics also insane.

This only scratches the surface.
I can pretty much guarantee you, anything endurance based (marathon, swimming, etc..) is overrun with doping and if there's no testing of winners, the winner was almost guaranteed to be doping. Even at the regional/state level.

90% of the problems I see with Win10 is due to bad updates, specifically a bad driver from MS.

The fact that this happened right after an update points to this situation yet again.
Roll back the update or wait for them to fix it is your only option unless you want to get down and dirty with drivers which can be a huge rabbit hole, and that's if it's your own system, let alone a customers where it's an intermittent problem.

Currently there is just beam spring firmware for QMK to my knowledge, but firmware should hopefully be available for Via/Vial at some point.  I updated my post to fix this.
