Keyboards / Re: Geekhack Cousin: Deskthority Registration?
« Last post by philljones on Sun, 19 May 2024, 08:33:54 »
Anyone know a Board Administrator at Deskthority?  Registered and never received an email activation but can't find an email address or link to contact a Board Administrator.

If you're having trouble with registration on Deskthority and need to contact a Board Administrator, there are a few steps you can try. First, check your spam or junk folder as activation emails can sometimes end up there. If that doesn't work, look for an option to resend the activation email on the registration or login page. If you can access the forum without an account, try posting in a public area as a guest to ask for help. Additionally, Deskthority might have social media accounts on platforms like Twitter or Facebook, where you can reach out for assistance.

Haha no problem.

Looking at the kitting again, I do have some feedback.

- For R2, 1.5u Backspace, you can actually fit Backspace as a single line instead of a two-liner. "Backspace" should be doable and looks fine. I'd personally prefer this, and I think others do, too; not sure if this was intentional, though!

I do personally prefer the single line backspace as well, and would prefer if it was changed to the single line as well.

Could the 1U novelty designs to enable XT kitting that would fit the row profiles R1–R4 be a consideration?

Unfortunately the cost to do so would be quite considerable. I was playing around with options but couldn't come to anything that wasn't cost prohibitive/worked well in terms of layout.

Hello!
Yes, that is unfortunately true. I did observe the Southpaw75 DIY kit, which comes with an ISO layout as an option, but I currently do not possess the dexterity needed to properly solder all components onto the PCB. Additionally, I do not own a soldering iron either...
I believe I will stick to the Q12 ISO for now, and once I slowly build my soldering confidence, start my foray into custom boards such as the previously mentioned one. I might even try hand-wiring down the line!... In several years, that is. Hand-wiring as a building method scares me.
I am, however, very excited to see what projects I can complete in the future.
Thank you for the response!

Soldering seems pretty daunting but it's actually not as hard as you think, especially when it comes to just soldering keyboard pcbs. Soldering stuff like diodes or doing handwiring is a lot more daunting, to me at least but it seems that with enough practice that should be fine as well (but atm I'm still not that level I feel)

This video is pretty helpful (I used to recommend another guide but it isn't the best, it's fine if you just want to solder a keyboard and be done but learning proper soldering is important, so I use this one), I keep my soldering iron at about 280 now, and it flows fine and is easy to control. I just don't do the bending tip they show but that might help you.

In the event of, let's call it scarcity, a CITY would tear itself apart. The amount and rate of destruction would rise exponentially relative to population size.

This is really cool. I am not a 60 user but this might be the only 60 i get.
More
the viton strips on the top case is a neat idea, prolly provides some isolation from the btm case and adds some bounce.
the thickness of the top case is also nice, ive had problems with Glare tkl where the thickness is less and maybe contributes to the ping, and also maybe why using force break on glare tkl helps isloate the top case more. on the F1, the thickness of the top case matters less cuz again, viton strips on the top case provide some isolation.
overall good job!

Welcome to geekhack fellow human  :D

Sadly there aren't that many southpaw fullsizes or close to fullsize atm, and the one I know of the kangaroo doesn't support iso. The keychron q12 does have an iso barebones kit so that might have to be your best option atm, of course there are a lot of new projects happening so surely one will have southpaw with iso eventually.
