Let me be the first one to welcome you to Geekhack!

That set does look good to me too. Has Panda-r made any decisions on what the set will be like?

I've made the decision not to listen to what everyone wants because as we all know it human society can never collectively come to single decision. Panda's on the other hand all just strive for one thing, no it's not panda sex, it's bamboo.

So just choose the style and coloring so we can get the double shot party started.

I can get on board if the keys are lasered non-filled bamboo with Panda OS keys.

I'd still be in for round two if it was some cool color keys, instead of those boring dolce keys with the big ass lettering in the middle.

I'm with this guy. I am opting out of the Round Three buy because, well, it is fairly damn ugly and won't work how I'd like on a Filco...

How close are these to Leopold keys? Obviously the keys with stabilizers wouldn't work, since Leo uses Cherry corp stabilizers, but what are the key profiles like?

I foresee a large market for Leopold caps in, oh, February or so.

I swapped my Das blanks to my Ducky and had no problems changing the stabilizers. Das uses the same stabilizers as Filco and Ducky uses Cherry stabilizers. I think you can do the same with Leopold.

Thats right. Most people get confused about stabilizers, despite there being a detailed article by ripster on this in the wiki.

The keycaps are all the same for bigger keys, based on 3 cross stems. One for the switch, two for the stabilizer. Now the difference is that the Filco boards have a little plastic part to go into two of the cross stems, while Cherry style stabilizers keep that part on the PCB/Plate. Anyway, you can plug out that part from the original keys and simply plug it into the Cherry corp keys and it will work fine.

I think there will be a fair number of people who won't bother unless someone can take charge of making a thread and keeping it organized by posting updates in the first post of the thread like WhiteRice did for the first order.  I simply cannot be bothered to read through hundreds of posts to try to figure out what the status is.

In short, if there isn't someone with some organizational skills in charge, forget it.  Even if it happened to be something I wanted, I wouldn't even take a chance if nobody's clearly in charge for fear the order also would get severely messed up.

Maybe the thing to do would be if someone's really interested, start a new thread for round three and do it right, and leave everyone guessing what round two was.

this is my problem right now.. i think i'm interested but i'm kinda lost as to what exactly i'll be getting as far as colors and fonts (or it the same as the first round?) etc.. dont feel like searchin 50 pages =[

Sixty - what kind does the Leopold use and will the Signature plastic spacebar be compatible?  They fit Filcos and Cherry but don't know about Leopold (I would think so but just to make sure).

Not at all. Will be hard to make it compatible in the same batch too. I took this pic for 7bit yesterday, its not good but not much I can do about it, can't retake pics here since I'm not at home.

Will take another proper one with tripod and the good camera eventually tonight, post on monday.

I read this message too. I planned on that Round 3 before, but this message made me jump in at once[1], because I didn't want anybody else to come up with another round with which I wouldn't be pleased again. Also I did not want to have the sets and add-ons to tight, without room for special keys.

As for Round TWO, there must be someone who actualy reads all 50 pages through and collects all those wishes. Who throws out all crap or things which are impossible and forms a basic set of key caps in one color-scheme with one font and one placement-style.

Then, additional features, layouts etc., must be worked in according to everyones wishes.

Wishes, which could be fulfilled, will be included in either the main or an additional set, and wishes which stick out too much or, are technical impossible, or don't find anybody else who want them, must be denied.

If in doubt, set up a poll. If there are only a few who want that whish being fulfilled, then tell them the price (eg. $1000 for a single key, one piece only) and you don't need any arguments against that anymore.

I can't help out in Round TWO right now, but once Round TREE is finished (ie order went out to SP) I can set up something similar as I do now.

However, decision for the general direction of Ropund TWO should be done by those who want something entirely different from Round ONE.

----------------
[1] That's the reason why I'm so much far behind with the layouts.

If no one takes action, Round 2 will die, I'm afraid.

Round 1 & 3 came up with someone throwing out a basic set of keys. Round 2 was too lose, without any fixed points, except it should be different from Round 1.

If you want something different from Round 3, then think about what you want, check prices, and set up a poll for it. Don't wait for Pondering Panda's end of winter hibernation.

(New here, Lurked for a While).

I know this thread is pretty much dead, but I did like some of the ideas for color schemes so I went through  and figured I'd narrow it down to what I think could work with the colors from the sample ring image earlier, and pulled what I thought was the most likely color from the sample ring.  I don't really have much in the way of photoshop or modeling skills, so I couldn't make the keyboard models like earlier in the thread; instead I made color sample blocks.

If anyone is still interested, we could decide on a set and then go from there.

Blue On Black (Bright, Normal)

Purple or Red On Black

Red on Black/Brown

Black or White on Green

Black On Yellow

White On Blue Gradients

Nintendo-Based Scheme

Laser Etched, No Infill

Non-Color Related Suggested Stuff:
Full set of keys in scheme above.
Special Esc, WASD[EF?] separate set (ESC/WASDEF same colors)
Font: Standard (No Choice)
Placement/Size: Smaller, Left-Aligned, Alpha Keys in Top Corner (ala Filco, but not Italic), assuming Signature can handle which I think they can.

May need to vote:
DCS or SA (PDF Links): DCS (Slightly Lower Profile than Filco) or SA (Thicker, Taller)
Special Starcraft Keys (Basic Movement Orders).  Dunno who else is interested in these, and I'm not sure what row height we'd use given different key setups, but I think we could come up with something:

SVG for SC Keys (zip).  Based on a 10mm by 10mm size for the SVG files in the zip, they should pass all the custom decal requirements mentioned in that other thread (minimum width, distance, etc) which is why I changed a couple of proportions.

Other Keys:
Most of the keys that could work (Awesomeface/Trollface/Escapeman) seem to be covered in Round 3.  Nintendo Question Mark box sounded nice but you I don't think you can really make it work without tripleshot because of the shadow - I wasn't really happy with what I could come up with.

Nice work organizing all of this. I love the exploration of color schemes that occured in Round Two. It would be cool to find some new looks beyond the color scheme of Round 1/3, and this goes a long way of putting it all in one place. Maybe it would be worth putting up a poll? Or is it too early?

Poll or no poll, it needs a new thread.  Its too confusing to put all that info here since there are enough people confused about how to order for the current Round 3.

If I were you (@Akachei) I would create a pre-Round 4 interest thread in keyboards (because it wouldn't actually be a group buy yet).  This may actually take some pressure off submissions to Round 3.  I'm not an admin so its not my call, so thats just my 2 cents.  I love the ideas, though.

« Reply #688 on: Thu, 17 March 2011, 11:21:15 »
Perhaps in the Modifications or Pictures sub threads? I can see good reasons for either.

Edit: and not just as a collection of ideas for round four but as an area for the discussion of ideas about custom keysets generally.
