btw this is polaris thread

Will the gasket be "squishy" at all, or will it be mostly firm to the touch?
No gasket mounts are squishy really, they are noticeable, but you won’t be surprised and it won’t change your life.

I own more than one gasket mount board, and I've typed on several more. There's no reason it couldn't be squishy -- that's up to the designer.

If you don't mind me asking, which gasket keyboard is squishy?

TLDR about whether a board is true Gasket or not:

Quote
You, like other "Gasket Experts" here, are just really dumb. I'm not saying the outcome is perfect, but I already explained the process and how we got here. The mistake was that you assumed that all gasket mounts are the same beforehand, when that is far from the truth. Second time I said this, god Puddsy you are dumb.

Also the ****ing durometer, I can choose any gasket and compare with a my 365 mini and they can feel very different from each other.

Any color samples of the olive green would be greatly appreciated !

Kevinplus (handles communications, renders, proto testing, etc) is waiting on some physical ano samples from the factory. After they arrive, there'll be more "final" renders in terms of color matching.

I couldn't tell you, it was just a question. The reason I asked is because in the 356 build video I watched the gasket was visibly squishy, but I don't know what it's like when it's all screwed down.

Imagine getting defensive over someone asking a question and then trying to defend their right to ask a damn question.

If you would like to argue about gaskets, please move somewhere else.

Also, waiting mainly on the weight now. Everything else is getting very close to completion, or has been completed and is awaiting shipment.

Still looking forward to some color samples - will this green be the same green as fusion60 that just started shipping ? I’m asking because both are being done by KBDfans, but I honestly don’t have any idea if they use multiple manufacturers and ano shops.

I'm really interested in this group buy but my question is in regards to the PCB. It seems like this keyboard will only fit the PCB it comes with due to the measurement of it. Let's just say the PCB would fail at any point, would I have trouble finding a replacement in the future?

I don't know the answer in regards to the Polaris but this is the issue with most customs unfortunately.

I will likely be open-sourcing the PCB at some point. From the data, it should be possible to either recreate it 1:1 or modify it to whatever future standards exist at that point in the future.

Even if I have a custom Plate made? Is it just that this wants a PCB or 1.2mm thick I think it said and a boardwalk PCB is going to be thicker? Or are there other reasons it won’t fit? It also uses gaskets which add to the thickness... what if I removed a gasket. Basically is there anyway I can hack this case into working? I need a 60% white HHkB case for my boardwalk and they aren’t exactly easy to find. So I’m ready to do some modding.

Basically can anyone tell me exactly why a boardwalk PVB can’t fit in this case instead of just No.

It wouldn't fit by default, but you could "hack" it and it'd probably work at some point. Depends how badly you want it I suppose.

The hole for the usb-connector is at a different location than the connector of the boardwalk pcb. You need a case that is complatible with standard 60% pcbs.

Shensmobile said on the Discord channel that he would be willing to make a Boardwalk style custom PCB for the Polaris. He's one of the designers behind the original Boardwalk PCB.

I don't know his timetable for this though. He's currently working on another project.

Have you considered the Sirius pom board?
store.projectkeyboard.com/collections/sirius

You can get a white hhkb board that way and it will fit the boardwalk pcb. Pom is a pretty neat plastic and actually makes the board have a very pleasant sound profile. Top Clack did a typing test of you want to look at it.

I will be open sourcing the PCB and plate files later on, if anyone wants to adapt a PCB or make one of their own to fit into the Polaris.
Third party PCBs will likely not drop in without adjustments due to the exact positioning of the USB Type-C connector and the matching cutout on the case.

Yeah I might as well just post here too since others have mentioned it. The Boardwalk PCB will not fit because the USB cutout is very precise and the 1.2mm PCB raises the port by 0.4mm. I will be designing a Polaris-specific Boardwalk with hot swap sockets and will mimic the Polaris’ cut-out in the middle of the PCB. I’ll also be producing plates.

I will only be making a PCB to support my preferred layouts though (HHKB and WKL 7u). If you’re interested in this, let me know. I’ll be hand soldering these PCBs due to low volume so there won’t be many but it is happening. I’m currently working on a few other keeb projects right now but I uh... might have accidentally  finished the layout of the new PCB already.

Ai03, this is all possible thanks to you. Kudos!

Hey, a question on the Red Ano.

Do you anticipate the final real-life anodize to look similar to the rendering? Just curious cuz in the render, it looks like a slightly burnt/muted red. Was this your specific intention or just a render side effect? If you have any actual ano swatches you could post of the desired colors, that would be awesome!

Kudos!
I kinda love the idea of keeping multiple PCB to use with one (great) case. Seems more... financially-conscious than buying multiple separate keyboards :)
Yeah if you ever plan to run that (small?) GB, I’m in.

Kbdfans will handle the production, so I suspect it will be more of a burgundy red, similar to their current Tofu case:
