[IC] DSS LightCycle R3VIVAL (Updated 03 Oct. 2025)
« on: Mon, 01 September 2025, 16:35:50 »
DSS LightCycle R3VIVAL
FLYNN LIVES
A rerun with blessings from evangs AKA Trash Man.

Greetings, User_

The TLDR
Signature Plastics DSS LightCycle rerun with kitting changes:
Forced text novelties on base because most molds already exist
Introduced new icon novelties inspired by some DJs seen at the End of Line Club in Legacy
End of Line enter legends are to be made publicly available for anyone to use after GB runs

Base Kit speculatively priced at USD $160 at 100 MOQ based on SP Quotes, inclusive of new legends
Looking for feedback (IC Form Here) from the wider community on kitting, especially text/icon novelty choices to help optimize child kits

Actively seeking vendors

Update 3 Oct. 2025
Still collecting feedback from second IC form, will allow until 10 October before closing the form
Added a new signature to post as well that can also be found in the replies

Update 28 Sept. 2025
Looking to finalize current kitting with new IC Form
There have been some serious changes to kitting to help the pricing over on the IC form, but I want to finalize it and get quotes done right before I go and get renders made
GB will be pushed back to Q1 2026 for further refinement and more time to coordinate with prospective vendors
Deskmat design is planned to be finished in the next few weeks, looking to get a different version made for GH banner/signature, it might even be a deskmat design if folks like it enough

Update 19 Sept. 2025
A few changes:
Rounded up pricing to nearest dollar to make them more readable
Sweeping changes are going to be made to kitting in light of SP quoting shenanigans
Kitting will receive one more round of feedback before being finalized, new IC form to follow sometime next week.
Timetable for GB will be pushed back to Q1 2026 unfortunately, just to do right by the keyset

Update 12 Sept. 2025
Kitting renders and pricing have been updated according to collected community feedback, will continue to take in feedback
Sweeping changes will likely have to be made on kitting due to an error made by SP when providing quotes

Current Kits and Prices
Currently based on speculative pricing at different MOQs using quotes from SP, inclusive of new legends
Subject to change with vendors/feedback

Renders by madmax13 and Legends by Piperaceae

END_USER (Base Kit) - USD $160 @ 100 MOQ

Update 12 Sept. 2025
So SP happened to make a substantial mistake when creating the original quotes,
and this mistake was caught and unfortunately the price has significantly increased after the correction was made.

I will be looking into the options to bring down the pricing to be closer to USD 150,
but this was really discouraging to find out and making sweeping kitting changes may push the timetable for the GB to occur in Q1 2026 as opposed to Oct 2025

I apologize for this, and I will do my best in these coming weeks to see if I can make changes in a timely manner.
If not, I am still committed to making this set happen, so be on the lookout.
Thank you for your support up until now, it has most certainly softened the blow.

PROGRAM (Alt Alphas) - USD $70 @ 50 MOQ

Update 12 Sept. 2025
Pricing updated to closer estimate to retail price

IS0 - USD $18 @ 50 MOQ

My question is whether folks would want the forced novelty, or just slap a RETURN on it
Update 12 Sept. 2025
END OF LINE is here to stay
Added R3 pipe key
Pricing estimate updated to closer estimate to retail price

40S_ORTHO_EXT - USD $88 @ 50 MOQ

Update 12 Sept. 2025
Removed some new text legends and replaced with either already-existing text or icon nov legends
Current kitting warrants exploration of having a split MOQ base kit between 40s/ortho and more conventional layouts
Pricing estimate updated to be closer to retail price

Update 1 Sept. 2025
Forgot to include 2 2u bars in render, updated render to match the original quote
Will include LightCycle icon novelty in kit, adjacent key(s) will be removed from icon novelties set,
to be documented in next round with updated quotes

ICON_NOVS - Novelties - USD $48 @ 50 MOQ

New Icons by Flabby
New icons are subject to change for legal distinction and lines optimization for fabrication

Some keys will most definitely be removed to tame cost, please fill out the IC Form

Update 12 Sept. 2025
New icons are approved by SP, only line optimization is left to do
Keys have been removed to integrate most popular LightCycle novelty placements
Some keys have been moved to 40s/ortho kit to tame pricing
Pricing estimate updated to be closer to retail pricing

ACCENT_BARS - USD $31.00 @ 50 MOQ

Update 12 Sept. 2025
Blue bars are here to stay, overwhelmingly voted to stay in
Pricing estimate updated to be closer to retail pricing

For a Light Ribbon effect on LightCycle Alt keys
Liable to be removed, as per IC Form
If removed, 3u bars will likely be moved onto the 40s/ortho child kit

Pricing

Update 12 Sept. 2025
The above pricing breakdown is no longer accurate and has been removed.
Pricing breakdowns will no longer be provided due to circumstances mentioned regarding the 12 Sept. comment on base kit  :'(

Update 02 Sept. 2025
Had to redo a little bit of the math on the pricing because I initially got the numbers wrong when I first got the quote from Signature Plastics,
the updated numbers will be closer to the final result but are still subject to change based on further kitting changes, vendors, and extraneous economic conditions
[/size]

Photos of the Real Thing
In lieu of keyboard renders, I have decided to use photos of the real thing from DSS LightCycle 2021, in various layouts

The color chips are very deliberate, consider the possibility for future runs with different colorways ;)

Love seeing the TK40x used in a render but one complaint: should have used the 1.25u R2 derezz key at top right instead of R4 mcp key!

Anyways love the set, GLWIC

It's a photo of a previous run and not a render. Some renders are forthcoming.

Howdy, so I can see about getting an irl photo of the 2021/2022 rendition on the Cycle8 and Krush65 if you're looking to get a sense of the colors. The only thing is that the mod legends will not entirely match this current run, but I will do my best where I can. I also do not have immediate access to blur, so I'll have to make do with my phone.

If you prefer a render, just let me know.

So I'm taking a look at the feedback on the IC form, there will be some updates made.

First, I will have to redo a little bit of the math on the pricing because I initially got the numbers wrong when I first got the quote from Signature Plastics, I will update pricing shortly. The updated numbers will be closer to the final result but will still be subject to change based on further kitting changes, vendors, and extraneous economic conditions.

Next, I will be updating renders to correct some mistakes on the 40s/ortho to match the original quote. The R2 1.75u LightCycle novelty will be put into that kit after some feedback, but will not be placed in the render update so that it matches the quote originally given by Signature Plastics. The next round of renders will feature that change.

Definitely interested in the base and alt alphas.  I own the DSA set in Alps and MX.  Love it.  Would really like to see the "Control the System" colorway come back as well :)

Howdy folks, so there are plans to make a DSS Rendition of that classic orange colorway in the future. Though, I'd probably venture to call the base kit for that "PERFECT_SYSTEM"

If you want that colorway here and now, I am happy to say that there is another designer who is currently making a similar set in GMK ;)

Who knows? Maybe we could work together and get a set made for DCS, so long as Trash Man is fine with it.

Just following up on this, I have some pictures for you here. I have added them to the master album as well. These are not taken with the nice DSLR that Blur has, but with my phone.

It's the best I can manage at this time. Will see about getting some nicer pics with black alphas for GB post.

Basic specs of the cameras on the HMD Skyline:
108 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/1.67", 0.64µm, PDAF, OIS
50 MP, f/2.0, (telephoto), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, PDAF, 2x optical zoom
13 MP, f/2.5, (ultrawide), 1/3", 1.12µm

Some Pictures of 1.5u LightCycle with Accent Bar

This was my inspiration to try out having an R3 1.5u LightCycle with an accent bar. In the physical picture, this is an R2 1.5u LightCycle.

Let me know if you need anything more :D

Alrighty lads, here is another update on the post. I have some good news and some brutal news to share...

    The good news:
    • Icons approved by SP in terms of legal distinction, remeasuring line widths to ensure compliance with manufacturing capabilities
    • Kitting has been updated according to community feedback, and renders have been updated to match,
      • Only thing that is left to be updated is changing META/FN/FUNCTION to PRGM/PROGRAM on both base kit and 40s/ortho kit because the molds already exist
    The bad news:
Signature Plastics happened to make an error when making quotes for the kits at 50 MOQ, especially for the base kit, which has significantly increased costs. This is quite disheartening, but I am working to see what solutions are possible to bring the set to fruition, though I would have to communicate with SP and fellow designers that are more familiar with DSS to see about making sweeping changes to the kits.

Regardless, thank you for your support and interest up to this point, it has most certainly softened the blow.

Howdy folks, I've been spending the last few weeks working 50+ hours at my day job and I've been getting sick, so I've been taking my time to get things done but I'm pulling through.

I have another update from the past week or so of doing some investigative work on the biggest contributors to the cost while communicating with Melissa. So it turns out that the error in question came to a miscount of keys, meaning that the price should have been this way from the start. I am thus adjusting the MOQ targets for the base kit to make for a more palatable price. Update to main post will be posted in the next hour.

I will be working this coming weekend to finalize the line widths of the icon novelties and that should be all set. The deskmat is coming along nicely but requires some composition changes to make it more thrilling.

As for the kitting, I am still discussing what our solutions if vendors do not feel that the current kitting is feasible. I am making sweeping changes to kitting while keeping feedback in mind. Black Alphas will be shelved for a future run much like DSA LightCycle R3. Please stay tuned for that :D

I am also investigating whether there exist CYCLE legends to replace SHIFT legends to lean more into the theme.

If Carter's down, I'm down. I had some ideations that could lend themselves to MTNU, though the colorway and theme would slightly be different but related to TRON all the same ;)

I've had folks reach out about the alt alphas being added back in. Will be posting a new IC form including a question to see if the demand is there for the kit by Saturday 27 September in my zone.

Update 28 Sept. 2025

- Looking to finalize current kitting with new IC Form
- There have been some serious changes to kitting to help the pricing over on the IC form, but I want to finalize it and get quotes done right before I go and get renders made
- Please fill the form out if you care about the alt alphas, I really want to get a measure of the interest for this kit.

- GB will be pushed back to Q1 2026 for further refinement and more time to coordinate with prospective vendors

- Deskmat design is planned to be finished in the next few weeks, looking to get a different version made for GH banner/signature, it might even be a deskmat design if folks like it enough
