LOL the things he has to say about keycaps are both inspirational and frightening.

Sorry people, didn't mean to go off the rails here.  My fault is that I have a new Realforce and everything I type comes out of my demented head, before it's been screened and edited.

So please ignore the rantings of a mad-man.  I am calm now.  Everything is now at peace.

Just when it comes to key-caps the designs and colours really do excite me that much.  I get a sudden surge of adrenaline running through my veins, ready to take on anything and everything.  That's the effect of Brilliant Cap Design.

Not that bad, as long as ISO doesn't get hit I'm okay, I have to buy extra space bars but w/e everyone can always use more space bars.

Probably. You might be able to get one of the deadbeats sets.

After like a week of nonpayment they should become first come first serve unless OP doesn't want to add any more orders. Just a thought :)

I do have two Filco Blues and one Filco Brown, so YES I will still buy Key-caps for them.  Because someone owns a different brand of keyboard doesn't mean all other keyboards are going to be ignored.  The CherryMX switches are unique and worth keeping plus they are the easiest to change the look of quickly.

tsangan, why you don't take new orders and replace the cancelled ones ? It seems that there are people willing to get into this GB. I was thinking about a waiting list for requests submitted after the closing date.  Just curious, and maybe others on the list would like to learn too.

This.  That said, would you object to someone else running a round 2 later on of these for those who missed out?  Likely would be higher prices, I'm sure, but it seems like there's interest.

Feel free to run a round2 but since there is 300~ sets ordered in this round dunno how many round2 would get which would lead to a much MUCH higher cost, especially the add-on kits

I think the base-sets would be easy to sell afterwards, as well as the spacebars and maybe the 10keypad. Tsangan-addon and ISO could be a problem though :/

Max. I could offer now, is to take one more ISO-kit..

Not really very helpful now, but you could always run a straight-up sale afterward if people can't step up and take the sets.

Maybe next time require at least a 50% down payment at the outset, huh?

If you need me to pick up slack, I can absorb some of that cost.

Most of those keys were offered to be covered in the preceeding posts.  You guys are awesome.

I have no patience for people who cancel after the close and final quote.  If you need to get out, do it before things are finalized.  There is no problem with cancelling before the end, but once the GB manager sends the order prices are locked and invoices sent out.

I like the idea of nonrefundable deposits. Maybe 10-20% of cost, or base price up-front to make sure people are somewhat committing. If situations arise, $5-10 is what they'll have to consider before backing out. And if they do, we have the $5-10 to cover any additional losses or sell the unclaimed keys at a discount after GB.

Maybe in the future it might make sense to use something like Kickstarter... set the project and buy-in rates to tip if 50/100/whatever orders are made?

Not necessarily Kickstarter per se, but the style of purchase it represents.  It's an alternative view on risk.

Here, you run the risk "If I biuy in, they only sell six sets, I'm paying $75 per set, and I hoped it could sell down to $45 per"

On a KS-style model, you have "I'm committed at the $45 price and if it doesn't sell out to that level, the entire sale is lost, but I'm not committed to any price above the quoted one."

I know it took me ages to buy in here, in part out of concern it might end up too costly.  $70 of caps on a $60 board seems a bit unpalatable.

well, technically, the kickstarter TOS limits the service to use for funding "creative projects", and only "rewards" are to be promised in return for funding. however, that's as far as the TOS goes in defining the kinds of projects that can be funded with kickstarter, and it quickly becomes clear from the TOS that kickstarter is just paypal with higher fees.

so that would seem to be the actual limitation of kickstarter. you lose 8-10% of payments to fees with kickstarter instead of paypal's 3%. another problem is that you can't vary the price (eg shipping fees) and do precise itemization with their front-end.
