Plating and stickering done - some pictures for your eyes

Looking forward to getting some Klaxon related goodies on it - can't wait :D  The plate and alu case combined really make this thing feel solid - even more so than a Filco.  Out of interest I weighed both - the poker complete with plate, case and caps weighs 850g which is only about 125g short of a TKL Filco despite being about 40% smaller! (by total area)

Wouldn't be surprised!  Thanks again for the plate - it looks really nice sprayed & makes a real difference to the feel.  Not as much as going from stock everything to an aluminium case but a good difference nevertheless!

Yea, my single best mod was adding the plate. The poker when from my 3rd favorite keyboard to my favorite.

DIY Poker from iMav with lubed and stickered Cherry MX Red switches in a Duck Poker case. Still a work in progress, but a photo gallery of the process thus far can be found on Flickr.

Is anodizing really cheap in the states or something? I couldn't even get a quote from a guy here in Oslo because he thought I was joking when I asked him about stripping and anodizing for trays and cases.

I got a quote for $30 per rack. I'm not sure how many cases would fit on there, but I'm guessing at least 3 poker sized cases.

You shop may vary and I didn't ask about stripping since I would be sending un-anodized aluminum

NO!  Anodizing the case to a color would be a good idea, but do not make it red.  The red will not match, and it will always look weird, and a bit annoying.  IMO, it looks better in silver as it is right now.  The only other color to try would be black, or maybe dark grey.  Powder coating white would be good looking too.  But do not ruin it with red anodizing.

That is one great looking Poker!  (Just as it is)

Much of Retro DSA is out of here, so I was able to complete a little project I call the Poker Plate:

21409-0
Modified plate from The_Beast.
Poker PCB from iMav.
Switches from Bro_Caps.
Keycaps from you-know-who.
Design by samwisekoi.

This design uses a flanged Poker plate in place of a case.  Today I am using Sanctuary keycaps, but tomorrow Retro Green?  Also, as soon as they come in, I shall replace the spacebar switch with a tactile Gray and the Fn switch with a locker.

This could be done to any of the GH60 plates, resulting in a pretty inexpensive custom keyboard.
 - PCB
 - Modified plate
 - Switches (harvested?)
 - Keycaps (also harvested?)
 - A little bit of rubber U-channel to protect the desk.

Done.

In stainless this feels nice and solid.  The flanges make the plate very stiff.

FWIW, my new Poker Plate.

Beast can make more if he likes.  There was only one made for Poker Plate, and another for GH75.  But he has the DWG.  I did the flange-bending locally, but his metal guy could surely do it as well.

Huh.  Mine is across the street.  I could get pricing on mass-bending.

Also, it helps the metal guys to have the "bend-here" tabs.  And it helps the metal stay straight to have the stiffening bars in the spacebar stab slot until AFTER the plate is bent.  (I left them on mine and used Costar stabs, but they are easy to cut for Cherry stabs.)

This ^^ could make custom keyboards much more affordable!

How is the feeling when you type compared to a similar keyboard with a case? You say that it makes it stiff, so I would assume it is very similar, but still would like you input  ;D

With Green switches and ABS 'caps, I cannot tell the difference in feel.  Also, the main body of switches sounds the same as my QFR with Greens.

However, because the switches are so tightly held, the SOUND of the spacebar is transmitted straight down to the tabletop, so if you have a cheap, hollow desk (e.g. Ikea) then the spacebar SOUNDS different.  On a solid desk, there is no difference.  YMMV with other switches.

judging from the side view of the pcb it could still be moved down 2 or 3 mm without the pcb touching the ground, right? just asking, cause i think creating a low profile acrylic base as a slot-in for the plate would imho easily make this the number one housing.

I don't think I understand your idea, but yes, indeed there is 2mm above and below the PCB.

Great setup!

Any profile/side shots, I am interested to see how the board looks from the side and front with the lower profile of those keys.

So many nice pokers in here...
