yes but that not the optimal layout in my eyes at all.

I tried to make a mock-up using your Phantom plate as a guide, and ran out of keys to fill all of the slots.

What do you see on the extra eleven keys?  Also, since I think you only add two new key profiles (beyond the Race), I can add some of them to my Klaxon extras order.

Top row: +2
Tilde row: +1
Tab row:  n/c
ASDF row: + 4
ZXCV row: +4
Spacebar row: n/c

Please let me know what you'd put on those extra keys and I'll do a mock-up.

I have a question for those who have programmed the firmware before. Since the PCB is all the same, do I just use 0 for keys that I don't have or does it not matter since they can't be pressed anyways? Obviously trial and error will get it but less error is a good thing. :P

I've been trying to order switches and someone tipped me off to 7bit.  On his site he offers PCB mount switches and Plate mount switches.  I also read that with a plate you dont' have to solder the switches?  Am I reading this correctly?

Questions:
1: Why do we have a plate and a PCB?
2: Which switches do we need, plate or PCB mounted?

Thanks

1. On the Phantom, the plate is used to mount the switches and keeps them stable while they are in use. Otherwise, they would only be held to the PCB using the electrical contacts.
2. With the Phantom, you need plate mounted switches. There are no holes in the PCB for PCB-mount switches. You can use PCB-mount switches only if you cut off the two plastic "legs" from the bottom of the switch before mounting.

I'm not the biggest fan of the PLU-87 either.  I would prefer something with no labeling, very clean looking.  I do like the acrylic case that DanGWanG had, however I don't want something that shiny, attracts dust.

What are our options for the cases?

you can remove the labeling or you can just use a filco case

Basiclly dont like the graphic and line that goes under the F Keys

A plastic version of this: http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=34606.0;attach=2127;image

I may be making requests that are beyond what is available(i am new to this) especially for the right price, but i like the "minimalist" look of the MKC aluminum. I plastic version of it would be great, im sure one exists? I also like that there is no brand name/ logo on it and such.

Umm the mkc was 300+ and yea you can have any case you want if you design it or somehow rope someone into designing one.

The QFR cases are basically Filco cases except for the branding. I'm not sure about the availability, but some QFR have been shipping completely unbranded. That's probably your best bet for the cleanest case.

I think he said you'd have to cut off one of the legs or something, but his new plate design is supposed to allow for it without needing to mod the case. I could have misread though so don't quote me

Does anyone make a stainless steel case?  Stainless Case + Stainless Plate, I'll have the heaviest keyboard on GH, and that actually appeals to me.  I like the weight, as I don't want it to move.

I'm half joking, but if a stainless case existed, I would defiantly but it.

Milling steel is kind of a *****. However it can be used as a weight like you see in a lot of custom Korean boards

So a SS case is possible?  How much would something like that go for?

I don't know about the SS case
For me an Alu case plus a SS plate is already heavy enough, it feels solid and it doesn't move but it's still possible to reposition without a forklift.
If there is no plan for a custom case with Treble, Oneproduct, imsto or anyone willing to carry this on maybe we could adapt the design of the PCB/Plate to fit in a Vortex case?
It's pretty good overall, not so expensive and it is supposed to be available soon in different colours...
What do you think?

I'm not so sure about changing the PCB right now. The reason why bavman's GB has a somewhat early cut off date is because we have the design already and can make the order whenever. Modifying the design will take longer, with prototype fitting etc.

I don't think this aligns with the aim of this group buy. There is supposed to be a Phantom 2.0 in the future though.

I think you want some kind of serial interface to talk to a BT module. The Teensy has pins for UART which I think will do, but I really know nothing more about it...

I think it was the mid $100s when it was sold. Problem is not many were made and they're not in production (and never will be again like all awesome things).

Is there a thread somewhere that consolidates the current information on which cases are compatible with Phantom builds?
