Super excited! I received my package today, my first ever Phantom is here :D woot!

However, I regret to also say the PCB is quite bent :( what do I do?  Can I simply bend it back gently?  Leave it and just have it straighten out when I mount it?  Or do I need to claim insurance?

I hate to be the party pooper :( I hope everyone else has theirs come fine

Oh wow...that is kinda bent....would someone know what could cause this?
I was under the impression that the PCB is stiff enough to just break not bend like that. Could it maybe have been caused by heat?

Do you have a plate that you could test by just mounting a few switches and seeing if it'll fit alright?

Their's not a whole lot going on in the PCB of a keyboard.  Chances are that it will be just fine.  the only thing you have to worry about is board trace breaking at the bend location.  try it out.  I'm willing to be this will work.

Yeah I didn't think this PCB would bend like that, then again I've permanently bent Motherboard PCB's.

Yeah I've got a plate.  You mean soldering the switches on or just a dry fit?

I think it'll still work too, I'm just kinda bummed knowing it's kinda defected now :(

The only issue I see is possibly getting it to fit all properly in the keyboard/good solders on the switches...if the gap between the Plate and PCB is too big, the switch might not get a solid seat in the PCB.

yeah, I know what you mean.  the good news is that if it works, you'll likely never look at it after it's installed.

That being said, I'd be upset if mine were bent too.

Yes this was a mistake I made with a couple people. You weren't supposed to get your PCB this earlier because I was going to get the plates from WFD when they're done and bundle the plates and PCBs. I didn't update my list though so I accidentally sent some out early, but worry not, when the plates are done we'll get them to you.

Oops well it looks like I screwed up, I forgot to update my list...but theres nothing I can really do about it so I'll just send you guys the plates when I get them (or WFD can just ship them directly to you), don't worry about it.

And daniel, just pm me and we'll figure something out

You've got a list of people who's PCB + Plate hasn't been shipped out yet?

I just don't think this is right  :-[

I don't want to go seeing if I can force everything in place, and try to basically unbend it by soldering switches into place and risk bending my plate too.
I also don't want my first Phantom (or any keyboard) assembly to be even harder because of this  :-\

Bav, do you want to take this to PM so we can discuss potential solutions?  I feel really bad for making a ruckus  :'(

fl0w3n, PCBs have a very high tolerance to bending. I would try to put the PCB under heavy weight for 24h, you could also try to iron it gently (not too hot) with a cloth in between. You should try to straighten it just a bit, switches will put it back in place when soldered.

I would just hold the PCB in my hands and push that area straight with my thumbs.  You'll have to over extend it a bit to remove the warp.  You'll probably hear some crinkling of the fiberglass, but the PCB should be fine.  If you don't see any discoloration of the substrate on the edges, you should not have any problems.

Yes, some care is going to be required.  I have seen much worse, believe me.  I would be worried about your run-of-the-mill FR-3 PCB, but FR-4 PCBs like these are pretty tough.  If you were building a PCB mount keyboard, then I would suggest not using this PCB.  Since you are going to plate mount, the PCB rigidity is less of a concern.

I have two PCB's + two teensey controllers + 1 plate from WFD.  I'm going to give up my order, but only if someone takes it all.  I'm not going to piece it out.  Contact me if you're interested.  I'll sell it at cost + shipping.   it hasn't been shipped to me yet, so all you'll have to do is pay me and I'll let bavman know to ship it to you.

Mine arrived in good shape today. I'm thinking of doing my 7bit plate as ergoclears to mach my current phantom (also ergo clears)

It's interesting: this plate isn't the same. They took out the swiss cheese holes around all the switches (for switch removal  from the bottom without desoldering).

Now, can anyone help me scan those QR codes? I'm thinking of taking a high-contrast picture (edge lit) and converting it to B&W. I will figure out what they say.

I forgot to mention the reason for my abandonment of the phantom.  With the LZ-GH and my recent interest in getting a topre board I just don't think I'm going to have room.  On that note.  If you have a topre board and want to trade my parts (two phantom PCB's, two teensey controllers, one plate) for your topre board, I can also add cash.

Does that mean plates are shipped out too?

From the plate GB thread:

Most of them are done and can be picked up late next week. No ETA on the low quantity designs, but they're in progress.
Late next week like around the 25th-26th? Also any chance there will be an extra ansi 150 plate?
Yeah, I'm scheduled to pick them up at those times. Sorry, no extra plates at all :( , I already spent more than I invoiced for so I didn't want to spend more on extras not knowing if they would be needed.

So I think that means WFD should get them end of this week. Then he will ship them to bavman. Then he packages them with our PCBs, etc. and ships them to us...correct?
I stay busy with work and family these days, but I'm still around, lurking.

Hey im absolutley terrible with programming. Could someone help me create this layout with fn layer?. I tried to understand what to do but my brain is NOT made for it lol. I dont mind giving a tip either :D

I want the numpad to look like this
1.5x with 7 bit. I would like this numpad on the function layer :) the right win key will be Fn
