I'm thinking to switch the Caps Lock and Backspace keys on my QFR. Just learning touch typing and read about it somewhere, and it seems like an excellent idea. The problem is, on this keyboard Caps Lock has a led in it, and the keys don't even match.
Any idea how could I proceed? Guess I could just switch them from software, the label will be very annoying but only as long as I look at it, but the led would be annoying.
Anyone with some experience on how to solve this? Maybe I can just disconnect the led? Didn't look under the key so far, wouldn't want to break something, not sure how the led is connected...

You would have to get custom caps made and I believe the only WASD keyboards would do custom caps where you could swap the texts on a Caps Lock and Backspace. I'm sure getting just 2 caps done would be a pain and the shipping from California to Hungary would probably be a nightmare. You could try asking around for people who have Blank/Otaku sets and see if they'll part with their Backspace/Delete.

Since you're in the EU, you could check out QWERKeys and see if they offer any solutions for your problem.

Just order 70 or even 80, it's never a bad thing to have a few extra switches. If you order exact amounts, you may have a bad time

Other problem:
I had problems with some keys on my dk1087xm. Actually it was the case coming apart and after some wrestling with it no keys get stuck anymore.
But - keys are so difficult to remove on this one, non-character keys i mean, I removed the right Ctrl and a corner of that little plastic thingy that goes into the switch broke. Is it possible to remove such an ALPS switch, if yes how (what tool? i don't have special tools), and if it is possible to just replace it? (I mean everything is possible but realistically, can I do it at home or i should just leave it as it is)

You broke plastic on the switch itself of the keycap? If its the keycap then you'll have to source another one somewhere. If its the switch then you can desolder it and buy another one (not sure from where) and solder the new one on.

To remove an ALPs switch (or any plate-mounted switch for that matter (besides plates specially designed, see Phantom plate)), you have to pull the case apart, and desolder the entire board. While you're at it, you might as well replace every switch with matias switches.

Just the keycap, there is a little plastic pin on it, not sure how it's called that goes into the middle of the switch (in the hole), a little piece broke and stayed inside the switch. I used the basic cap remover I got with my QFR, but for the wider caps it doesn't work very well (grasping top and bottom instead of sides), next time I should probably just try and remove these kind of keys with a piece of string or something.

In this case it's easier to just try and remove it with a needle, I never did any soldering, it's not important enough to learn now. thanks.

You do not need to desolder entire board to replace one switch, what the hell are you talking about?

For Alps you can have this problem where the keycap mount breaks inside the stem, much like occasionally the stem will break off on MX switch insid the keycap. How I solve that particular problem is like a cork, take a tiny hook or eye screw like for hanging a picture, thread it into the piece you need to remove and pull, just like a cork. It has a high success rate for me.

Yes, you can. Removing the stabs is easy. Desoldering everything will be the harder part.

i liked the blank key caps for the quickfire stealth but i think it is abs not pbt, yet was wondering at this price comparison would the ducky be a better buy due to better build quality (than the quickfire)?

I'm not personally familiar with ducky's build quality, but I have several quick fire rapids, and the build quality on them is very good. My only complaint is they have single-sided PCB's.

Bytheway, if you want to replace the keycaps, just buy a quickfire rapid for much cheaper.

The stealth does come with ABS keycaps.

Okay. We just installed these crazy cool digital 4k projectors at my theater and my job becomes ingesting movies/building playlists/maintenance instead of threading/building/tearing down 35mm film. We use a command center to control all of this, and it's ridiculous. We spent maybe a cool 2 million for the projectors/audio processors/server tower/computer/IPS monitors and they use a $5 membrane keyboard. It's already driving me nuts. I need a cheap full size mech keyboard. Sound is not an issue. Prefer blues or an alps equivalent. I'd like to spend less than $20 for it, so used is my only option. No crazy layouts, because my manager will be using it too.


I'm sad that I won't get to work with 35mm, but I'm also happy I won't be running into issue after issue with our ****ty projectors that are always having something go wrong. Also the quality is BANANAS.

If this is your first mechanical keyboard, I'd recommend getting the QFR so you get a taste of what the boards are like without spending too much. QFRs are a really good value.

It's already driving me nuts. I need a cheap full size mech keyboard. Sound is not an issue. Prefer blues or an alps equivalent. I'd like to spend less than $20 for it, so used is my only option. No crazy layouts, because my manager will be using it too.

If you're ok with an Alps board, a Del AT101W can be found for around $20. It has tactile black Alps. I got my Focus FK-2001 for $20 as well.

Tactile black Alps aren't Clicky. But the Focus has Clicky White Alps. The actuation is at the top, it's almost instantaneous.
