Okay, just curious. I haven't opened my 3700 yet, so no idea what the rib in question looked like or how big it was. Thanks, Beast.

No problem. See the center hole thingy, where the top (esc, ctrl...) attaches to the bottom, you have to cut or file that part of the top of the case. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Any possibility of getting sand blasted plates? They look really good.

I think I'll just need to buy an air compressor eventually and make my own sand blasting kit. Would also come in handy for giving texture back to keyboard keys. I wonder if people would pay for that as a service.

How much would it cost me to have a one-off stainless steel plate made for the SkiData?  I like the keyboard a lot, but it does have a certain amount of flex, as it's not really supported very will in the big blue case.

what would a sandblasted plate look like?

You're talking about just the bottom part of the keyboard which works right? Not all the worthless keys up top that don't work?

And even the bottom part isn't the exact same as an 1800. the space between the alpha/arrows/numpad is larger than on a real 1800. So you'd have to get Beast or jdcarpe or someone with CAD skills to make the modifications. I would guess it would cost about the same as a single 1-off 1800 plate. Also, I don't recall what the inside bottom of the SkiData case looks like, so it may need more or less modifications than a normal 1800 case

WFD has a sandblasted plate picture in one of the plate threads. It looks really nice just like a titanium or aluminum sandblasted spacebar.

I'd be interested in a complete plate - the Function row is part of the upper keyboard area, and those keys do work.

I suspect it's a lot of work for a very small sub-set of keyboards, but I figured I'd ask!

yea I mean above the function row being the part which doesn't work at all. to plate all those non-working keys likely would make this a $50-60 plate as it would be massive

the date on this is going to be extended out a bit as i'm too busy with the MY7000 doubleshot stuff and other projects to close out another GB right now

New last order date will be May 24th, payments collected that next week, and order placed on May 31st.

Beast is confirming what the price tiers will be as well.

Bless you, my son!

And my wallet gives a sigh of relief as well...  For some reason, there sure seem to have been a lot of GBs all coming to fruition at the same time as taxes were due, not an auspicious confluence of events.

it should if you cut out the case. someday I will have to try that along with finally writing up how/where to cut out a normal case. I have a bunch of extra dolch pac cases so I can cut one up no problem

Any update on this? It's been so quiet for so long :)

Does the 3700 case still need to be modified to fit the plate?

And is the timeframe still going to work?

I didn't realize it was a holiday weekend when I set the new end date. I'm going to try and PM everyone tomorrow to confirm their order, as i'm worried I messed up the google doc when I added the other 3 options in and don't want to get stuck with a bunch of ISO plates people don't want

I haven't opened up an 3700 yet, but Beast said its case needs to get cut, so i'd say yes

ok PM's have been sent out to confirm orders.

If you ONLY ordered the 1800 ANSI plate (101key winkeyless) then I did not PM you as I know that column for sure didn't get messed up in the form

I have a feeling that after doing this mod I'll get the itch to wire my G80-1813 for >2KRO.  Maybe I should just bite the bullet and track down a G80-1865 (I actually need the winkeys for windows 8 anyways).  So... can anyone confirm that a G80-1865 PCB will fit in a Dolch PAC case?

As long as you are planning on having to cut out the back of the Dolch case already for the USB connectors, there shouldn't be any other reason it wouldn't fit. I've never tried it myself, but haven't had any issues moving around any other 18xx's and 186x's between each others top case parts

Ok here is what the prices are going to be then at the various quantities things are currently at:
$23.50 = 1800 ANSI plate (101key winkeyless)
$24.50 = 185x ISO plate (105key winkey)
$14.50 = 3700 plate
$28.50 = 1800 ISO plate (102key winkeyless)
$24.50 = 186x ANSI plate (104key winkey)

There is $.50 added onto each to cover shipping the big old box of plates to me.
Shipping from me-to-you isn't known yet and likely will invoice that separately after I have the plates

at long last invoices have been sent out for these plates!

Once the majority have paid i'll have Beast submit the order which will then hopefully put us on schedule for these getting to me in early August and then shipping out shortly thereafter
So about a month behind what I originally hoped :-[

Same here but so glad Flynn is still running it.  After all we are all looking for that something special for our 1800's and Flynn is always the one that delivers.

Besides he is a fanatic and they take the longest time to perfect an order/item so that it arrives in our hands perfectly ready to use.

So the plates look like this. Which isn't what I wanted since you can see splatter marks on the front (look at the top of the switch cutout). They should have a brushed type finish on the front. I've determined that the cutter didn't sand the burrs off giving the plate a brushed finish since they may not have been too many burrs.

But that's not so bad. However, on some of the plate they did take an angle grinder to get rid of some burrs (apparently not enough to send through the machine like they have every other time I've ordered from them). You can see in the image below the ground and 2b stainless finish mixed together.

Here is a picture of all 3 finishes. The top plate on the left is the finish they should have came with. The plate under it, in the middle is what I did in my shop. and the bottom is the standard 2b finish not showing any of the angle ground finish (it seems like a lot of them have it)

So here are the options with pros and cons

A) Send them back to the cutter to have the top left finish applied
  - Pro
      - Finished with no cost (I think)
  - Cons
      - This could take a while. If I does, I won't be able to ship them myself. That means I have to ship all of them to Flynn and he would ship them. It seems like Flynn is short on time, so I don't know when you would get your plate

B) Have me finish them with the middle plate finish
  - Pro
      - I have them sooner and I wouldn't need to ship to Flynn to ship to you (Again, Flynn doesn't seem to have a lot of time, so that could take a while)
      - Seems to be more consistent than sending back to the cutter (The cutters finish sometimes misses spots and he doesn't care since the only thing he cares about are burrs)
  - Con
      - Takes my time, material and machines so I'm going to charge $4 per plate to refinish

C) Do nothing
  - Pro
      - Get you plates the fastest and cheapest
  - Con
      - Have to finish yourself (elbow grease, + sandpaper)

So what do you guys want to do? Also, as stated in the OP, 3700 plates cannot be finished by me or the cutter. You'll have to do that yourself.

***********Also, about shipping. I was thinking there are 3 ways to ship. Wrapped in thick packing paper + 1 layer of bubble wrap, a backer board make of 1/4" hardboard + 1 layer of bubble wrap + packing paper or a large game board box (that's the only box that will fit a 1800 that is a standard size USPS shipping box).

Thoughts?

I choose the one above.  I don't mind paying an extra $4.00 per plate (even though I forgot how many I paid for) if you can guarantee a near PERFECT finish that is all uniform across the plate.

All laser cutting services don't care about the quality of finish as long as a cut was made.  Usually someone else will need to finish the item off (always the customers).

Just let me know how much you'll want in total.  Thank you.

Personally I'd prefer Option C, as I have a crate full of different grades of sandpaper after my case painting experiment.  But I'll go along with the majority vote, the estimated extra costs are very reasonable.

For shipping, I really liked the hard backer-board included with the Poker plates, packaging/shipping the G80 plates the same way would be swell.
