The BS graphic looks pretty good -- not sure that anyone is going to let you use the IBM logo, though. Otherwise, nice design.

Suggestion: instead of polls figuring out which kind of hoodie, sweatshirt, beanie cap, or whatever we all want...

... Geekhack patches.

 :D

(Attachment Link)

Google up 'embroidered patches' and there are lots of manufacturers who can do this. Just off the top of google, I find this pricing scheme:
http://www.wholesale-patches.com/pricing.html

According to this site (which may not even be our ultimate choice) a 4" diameter embroidered patch is somewhere between $1.43 and $1.75 each for a quantity of 200 -- price varies depending on the complexity of the design, and thread use. You could sell them for $3 and they would still be a steal, and the balance could go to GH. And it looks like the turnaround is pretty quick. So we could run this like a real groupbuy, make multiple designs available, and let people pick and choose, and the final price depends upon what tier(s) we hit. It cost $.10 to add 'iron on' capability to a patch, if no one knows someone who can sew.

The advantages here are price, options and you can add it to whatever clothing you already own. And the shipping costs would be way, way less.

I don't mean to piss in anyone's cereal -- these are all great ideas for apparel, but we all have different ideas of what constitutes clothing we would want to wear, so why not a patch? We could all post photos showing where we put our patches! Put 'em on hats, whatever. Just something to consider.

I love patches, I would definitely be in for some of those. I would prefer velcro backing if that's possible though.

Just to add my two cents, I prefer themed apparel that is not so on-the-nose.  Something like the buckling spring cross section is awesome by itself or with an obscure quote, like "wanna switch".  The URL is a good idea as long as it doesn't dominate the design.

I like this but would rather have a smaller sectional view and no logo on the back. Maybe a small GH url toward the neck on the back, but that's about it

I like the cross-section of a buckling spring as well. And I still like the idea of a patch(es) so people could put them wherever they want.

What about an exploded drawing of a model m? switch cross section is cool too

let's do the typewriter font on the back 'geekhack.org' and 'keyboard enthusiasts' under it on the right. positioned at the bottom of the shirt would be sleek

don't think we should be using the IBM logo unless it's on the model m label

I don't think you'll be able to produce t-shirts with IBM logos, but I could be wrong.

The closest I've ever found to the original Cherry font is VAG_Rounded. I've attached the font file to my post.

it depends how many you would want, if you want them pro screened etc and there is a demand for 20 i can get em done at about 10 bucks each, if you want it less professional there are lots of options for a single shirt

Can you help design the graphics? I would love to have some GH merit badges. :D

You can get them embroidered at Nerd Merit Badges. MOQ is 50 per design, at $5.00 each.

I would love to see something like:
  • GH60 (logo, centered), [USER, DIY'ER] (text, bottom)
  • Phantom (text, on top), Phantom (logo, centered), [USER,DIY'ER] (text, bottom)
  • 1000 posts (2000, 3000, 4000, etc.)

I'll make a small GH-themed banner that the patches can be sewn onto, LOL!

More category ideas:

- one for each kind of major switch you own? tried? (Cherry MX, ALPS, Topre, BS)
- Clack Owner
- Model SSK Club
- Rare, Custom

EDIT: the multi-quote is taking some getting used to, LOL!

I also would like to not see virtual badges. This is a community and I feel like I learned who does what through interacting with them. I feel like badges cheapens the experience of getting to talk to and meet people. And it may intimidate people or just devalue the forum into a way to collect some sort of virtual kudos. Instead of interacting, I feel that people may just try and 'catch em all, like reputation/respect/knowledge can be bought as easily as Pokemon cards.

If you want to show something off, why not make a Wiki User Page?

I think they look tacky in general and take away from the forum. :) good thing they aren't coming to GH.

i honestly thing GH's layout as it is right now is great..no need to change
