My purpose of starting this "survey" is to get to know active GeekHack members' enthusiastic level in keyboards. We are all here (meaning Geekhack) for a reason and that reason for some of us here is for the love of keyboards. So whether you ever spent only $5 in your entire keyboard time AND you are a GeekHack member, Kudos to you because you've resisted all temptations. If you are a high roller who spend five figures, that's also fine because you really love doing what you want to do.

Wouldn't you be interested to know the average or the median of active members spending on keyboards? I do. Why? because is interesting and helpful. Why is it helpful? If I realize I am under the average, it might encourage me to spend more. If I am above average, I might feel good about myself of having the luxury to be above. It all depends on how You look at it. But That's my take on it.

Last but not least, as a new member here, Thank you all for your participation.

Nah, I really think I need one. After hearing daerid's thoughts and myself imagining how close I could have my hands together while gaming by only using the left half of the ErgoDox, I think I really have to trash my MX keyboard and get me some ErgoDox. My main daily driver right now is a FC660C so in my mind the only thing that can trump Topre is an amazing ergonomic design.

Original post title should be changed to keyboard hobby. What about keycaps, click clacks, soldering equipment, keyboard parts (springs, stems, stickers), wrist rests, metallic stickers, and custom controllers? I'll just do keyboards in order I got them.

First mech was a Steelseries 7g - $150 when it first came out. Given away but kept the wrist rest.
Caught the vintage IBM bug and got a NIB Model M for $140.
NIB SSK - $410
Then I joined this forum just to get an acrylic Milestone wristrest ($40). Huge mistake.
Filco MJ2 TKL Ninja - $160
Corsair K60 got it on sale for $80 I think - I really wanted the rubber WASD keycaps, now they sell them seperately.
CM Storm QFR - $40 not including shipping. I could not pass up this price even though I am not a huge fan of blues.

Upcoming: 1x Phantom, 2xGH60, QFR Stealth with reds.

I still want to try a topre board, a matias TKL, backlit TKL (ducky shine 3 maybe), and definitely a korean custom.

So this puts me in the 1k plus group. This may double with that solid Gold case groupbuy coming up.

Just kidding - there is no solid Gold case group buy.

Never had a $100 CC either. I have to draw the line somewhere, and that's an easy one! I do have a Topre and like it even though it's so light. Now I just need to switch out the stock HHKB rubber domes for some 55g.

Seriously... You realize that mechanical keyboard prices aren't exactly low? Some cost $200+ without any custom modifications (topre boards). It all adds up quickly if you want to try different things. Anything collectible implies a lot of money. Maybe you should look at art collecting--there prices range in thousands to millions of dollars. You should probably learn about the reality of hobbies and collecting things.

collector- the hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual.

keyboards appeal to some people more than others- sorry we make you sick.

like an art museum collects art, we collect specific keyboards, keycaps that are specially desirable to the person who is gathering those objects in one place.

Just a note about mine, I've also sold a bunch of my stuff back to the community. For example, I got $80 back from the BWU, $80 for the Pure, $80 for CCnG, $120 for a pair of CC's, still have one, and $40 for some novelties. So technically I'm only at around $1100. Still a lot, but not terrible considering my collection and what I've been able to try out.

hahah yeah I am currentlyhappy with the ones I have, but I want to get me some more. At least 1 buckling spring at some point. I am getting a new filco and putting in cherry double shots on it so I can switch between that one and my PBT one at home.
