Not owning one of these and in the process of getting one, I wanted to know if owners of ClickClacks and BroBots and GirlDC and Titanium and any other expensive keycap actually used them on a daily basis or kept them as collectibles in mint condition inside storage boxes?

Do you not fear of them shining if you use them on a daily basis? Or wearing out?

Or do you just take them, polish them, take a couple of pictures with your fancy cameras and lighting and them put them back in the showcase?

There are:
Click Clacks
Brobots
GirlDC
Titanium
Feng's Metal Keycaps

These are what I consider awesome, I may have missed some, but not really a fan of any other novelty caps.

I pretty much like metal, wood and anything 3D. Not a fan of fancy print, dyesub, doubleshot, lasered stuff.

Either keep it simple or go hardcore!

I've seen feng's stuff on ebay. Think he had some adonized aluminum ones I really like. Think I got a Chickobo doubleshot from him or maybe that was keypop.net Anyways... Back to my earlier question, where can I find Brobots?  Are the sales held here like CCs? Interested to see what these GirlDC ones look like and where those are available. I'll have to browse the forum some more. :)

My 3D CC is in Esc position on my HHKB. It gets used, but not that often.

I had been tempted to get a fancy cap for my esc key if one that matched came along, but I switched to ergo boards and there just isn't a good spot. Would have had daily use though.

Guess I'll stick to full blank pbt.

I also use everything I own. I do not think I am an actual collector. I just like to spice up the keyboard and make it look awesome. If I have something I do not want to use, I trade it for something I want.

Most of my various Clacks and Brobots sit on keychains and in a box. My 2 GirlDC keys have never been put on a keyboard yet and are still in their original box. I mostly pick a rare key for my escape key and use if for a while till I get bored of it then switch to a different rare key.

Did anybody ever see a damaged clack? I know there is one that is yellowed from sunlight.... (and the one that was burned)... but real damage that didn't happen on purpose, like broken stem or something chipped off on a corner... or shiny forehead? :) I mean these things travel all around the world (often many times)...

The plastic they are made of, seems to be an awesome recipe.

Wonder if there is a Clack-Hospital if one gets injured  :D

Did anybody ever see a damaged clack? I know there is one that is yellowed from sunlight.... (and the one that was burned)... but real damage that didn't happen on purpose, like broken stem or something chipped off on a corner... or shiny forehead? :) I mean these things travel all around the world (often many times)...

The plastic they are made of, seems to be an awesome recipe.

Wonder if there is a Clack-Hospital if one gets injured  :D

CC fixed Hals topre clack. It was a blank mint gum and the stem didn't fit right. Hal sent it back and the stem was reshot using a different color. I thought it was pretty cool

I used to use my titanium spacebar on my kmac every day, but I swapped it out for PBT after a while, as the metal was sort of starting to put a dent in my thumb. More importantly, I was starting to scratch it from use, and I want to polish it before putting it back.

I have some aluminium keycaps, that I did use briefly as "esc" keys, but now they are on my qfr which is not currently in use (waiting on a frosty flake to get done, which is waiting on a new soldering iron tip to arrive)

When I first get a Clack, I carefully wash it in rosewater.

Then I anoint it with frankincense essential oil (and some myrrh when I have it in the house).

Then I gently place it into my bullet proof glass case with a pair of solid gold, velvet covered tongs, and rest each one on an ermine pillow, that has been lined with both mink belly fur and silk, and which has then been stuffed with the feathers of the extinct dodo bird.

After that, I simply lock the room and set the laser alarm, and never see the Clack again.

If I had a skull, I'd use it as my esc.  Alas, I have a 420 that sits on my shelf because the chronic and I aren't bosom buddies.

I have the same problem. Do not want to use it at home cos of my nephews and nieces that see it when using the PC. Do not want to use it at work for obvious reasons.

Best response :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I think it'd be really cool to use textured keys (like the skulls I guess) as 'F' and 'J' keys instead of having the little bumps on them like they usually do
