Sure one can argue there's no accounting for personal taste, and what one individual may find blindingly offensive you may find beautiful or perhaps ironic as if spitting directly into the face of fashion and common sense and saying 'look at me, I'm a pretty pretty peacock.' But what's the thought process here? Full Clack rows(or in some cases, boards ) not withstanding, what possess one to use unicorn vomit, rainbow capped, full color spectrum LED, weird colored modifiers, and Miami's as your daily driver? Am I simply too old and uncool to understand? I'm not even thirty, and I've been told I can play early twenty-something at parties. Cool parties. I get doing it for fun, like that time you were home alone for the weekend and went into your girlfriends makeup painting yourself like a Colfax Ave prostitute on welfare check day. But is it a statement of going against the norm, so when people walk by you and your board they mutter to themselves "my my, but that fellow must be much more interesting than I." Explain yourselves please.

Oh I could write a veritable young adult novel series on why not. That's not the issue.

*cough* CPTColours *cough*  :))

The only bright colours I like are RGB mods and a coloured esc key. Aside from that I stick to classic two tone schemes. I really can't see why people like more than that.. I guess it's a matter of opinion just like everything else.

Why are you so boring and only enjoy three case colors (Red, Black, Grey) and three differerent set colors (WYSE, Black on White, and White on Black).

I spend a lot of money on keyboards. I want them to look nice. What's the point of buying a KMAC if it looks like a barely upgraded Dell.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

All black was too plain, and blue seemed a nice color for modifiers.  Turned out a new trackball I picked up later matched it.

Quoting me causes a posting error that you need to ignore.

Because it is novel. When customizing something such as a keyboard where everyone and their mother has black/white keys it feels nice to have something that is different and stands out from the norm.

But what do I know :F

I actually hate black cases. I also hate WYSE and white on black :))

I also do like some bright colour layouts, but I don't like random colour layouts.. Here's an example of one I like (gulf racecar colours) : http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=39280.0;attach=21521;image

As long as the whole board flows together...I'm cool with whatever.  If the board is just stuffed with expensive caps or what not for the sake of it with no thought given to the overall aesthetics, I'm kind of lukewarm about that at times.

Case color is not problem, and I have red, black, grey, silver, beige, and blue cased keyboards thank you very much. But I wouldn't put yellow, and pink caps with lime green modifiers on a blue cased board. One has to have standards.

See this looks quite nice, not really what I meant by eye-gouging. Put it this way, if your board has more than say, 4 colors on it, you are who I'm talking to.

LOL standards. Worried someone might judge you or something? Why are you so worried about what others think of your board? I like colors so I get colors and put them on my board. That's all. There's not some super hipster, ironic thing going on with me. I like how my boards look with fun colors.

I'll just leave this little slab of sexy here for you.

Because unjarred eyes just roll off the desk.

At least, if the eyes are in the jar they won't roll anywhere.

Really? I think all babies look exactly the same. I would bet that if you swapped babies in the night with some unsuspecting parents they would never be able to tell the difference. Well, maybe the parents would but no one else would.

Some people do it because to them, their keyboard is just a keycap-holder
Some people do it for fun
Some people do it because they actually think it looks good

Personally I am not a big fan either. Looks kinda ridiculous to me. But people should be able to do whatever they feel like. They are the ones who are looking at it every day.

Am I simply too old and uncool to understand?

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

On a more serious note, I personally only like blank caps, with a color scheme of black and grey. I've never posted a picture of it. It's only for my own view pleasure, no one else's. You should probably stop worrying about what other people's preferences are.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

My favourite colour is grey..
GREY.
Positive: Psychological neutrality.
Negative: Lack of confidence, dampness, depression, hibernation, lack of energy.

Hibernation and lack of energy are pretty accurate :))

"Perhaps" you are missing the point of those descriptions.  What it's saying is that "perhaps" a grey colored keyboard (or perhaps a room) will affect you in those positive and negative ways.  If you are usually a hibernating person with a lack of energy, a grey keyboard "might" accentuate these personality traits.

I don't know why but whenever I see a pink keyboard I do remember of BunnyLake ...

So you're saying that you like bright colors, but you just don't like too many colors combined on one board?  I'm sort of the same way in the sense that I don't like RGB modifiers but do like function caps to be different colors from alphas (or have colorful fonts).  It's really a matter of taste though.  You can't have exactly the same aesthetic preferences as the next person here, so all you can do is accept that they like one thing (e.g. find it aesthetically pleasing) and you like another.

You've inspired me to download the movie "Bunny Lake Is Missing"...  Never saw it...  Perhaps when I've seen it, I'll want to order pink keycaps for my black realforce :)

But then there's no peer pressure

my philosophy is anything that's designed with more than 3 colors is dumb.

same for keyboards, if it has more than 3 color then i'm not using it. (I personally prefer 2)

There is also another angle to consider when adding "color" to your keyboard, and it deals with the purpose of your keyboard:

http://www.colour-affects.co.uk/psychological-properties-of-colours
My favourite colour is grey..
GREY.
Positive: Psychological neutrality.
Negative: Lack of confidence, dampness, depression, hibernation, lack of energy.

Hibernation and lack of energy are pretty accurate :))

"Perhaps" you are missing the point of those descriptions.  What it's saying is that "perhaps" a grey colored keyboard (or perhaps a room) will affect you in those positive and negative ways.  If you are usually a hibernating person with a lack of energy, a grey keyboard "might" accentuate these personality traits.

Ummm, you're looking at your keyboard? You're doing it wrong...

Whether you touch type or not, you still look at your keyboard...  There was a thread on this very recently.

I definitely don't. It's on a tray under the table, I can't see it most of the time, even if I wanted to.

What're we arguing about in this thread?
GH is full of complainers these days. Just buy ****, sell **** and stop giving a **** about how people dress their keyboards.

So when you sit at the computer it's not pulled out?  Touch typists may not look at the keyboard all of the time, but they do look at the keyboard more often than you might think (even if unknowingly).  It's like the thousands of times we touch our face each day.
