I started setting up a new server at home back in September last year.
With severely limited time I have left it turned off since then until today, when I had set aside some time to work on it.
Now I cannot remember the root password

My other servers have been Ubuntu, and I login as myself and sudo - no root password required.
This server is CentOS - login directly as root (if I could remember the password). I have no established pattern for this password, and no idea what I would have chosen.
Edit 1: Ha! Fixed it!/
[rowdy@localhost ~]$ su -
Password:
Last login: Wed Sep 30 20:59:59 AEST 2015 on tty1
Last failed login: Mon Jan 11 13:14:07 AEDT 2016 on pts/0
There were 22 failed login attempts since the last successful login.
Edit 2: Ha! Broken again!I installed the 455 or so updates that have accumulated, rebooted, and now it's not responding to pings and I cannot login.
Looks like I'll have to connect a monitor (and keyboard) to it to see what's happening.
