So much butthurt.

There is **** on both forums.  /r/mk users tend to be entitled and justify counterfeits and unethical behavior so that they get theirs and **** everyone else.  GH can be intimidating for some and there are some people who can be abrasive.  I dove in headfirst, made some big posts, and found a community that was welcoming and encouraging. This whole community divide really started with riptard though and just ballooned from there.  Instead of people giving something different a chance, they internalized his BS and we have what we see now.

And remember, GH has always been about a community, not a sales forum, so it makes sense that someone would want to encourage commitment to a community that they're a member of.  Why should he work his ass off to make people happy who have no investment in the community and are going to **** on him for not getting something in his sale because he can't make enough for everyone.  He's making the right choice to scale back, make it more for the community and making more time for his family.

100 is fine but every user should make a introductory post, however short, in the New Member part. Thats one for free and if you are lucky someone will ask a question! THATS TWO!

Except new member posts don't count to post count and I would be surprised if bro caps checks everyone's profile to see true post count

What's funny is we see others get praised for doing the same thing, making time for their family.  But since it's Bro, suddenly a ****storm.

They need all those popular keycaps to fit in with the cool kids!

I like how it's a simple request. Be an active, contributing member to the forum and you'll essentially be rewarded by being able to participate in his sales and have a chance to win.

That's so hard.

Yes but even though brocaps markets his caps on reddit (has his own sub) he is ****ing the reddit users who contribute on reddit but not GH. bad move IMO.

He still advertises his caps on reddit though? I post here, im both a reddit mem(e)ber and a geekhack mem(e)ber, I 'qualify' for his sales although I havent particpated lately because I dont like the look of his recent products. If he is ****ing reddit users he shouldnt advertise there anymore.

I would hardly call it advertising, he doesn't make caps to make money. He does it because it makes the community happy and the people love it. Plus most of the time it's just ripster posting links to the sales to get that sweet, sweet karma.

Plenty of users on r/mk are also active members of gh. Nobody is '****ing' anyone. If you don't like my rules, and if you don't like geekhack, then go buy other artisans keys. Not sure how to get the point across that
if you just want a shiny for your kb, you have a ton of alternative options.

Also, this reinforces my decison - being downvoted for explaining myself

I was reading an article, and a person made a comment that describes reddit perfectly;

Quote
Reddit has given people a place to voice their opinions and be the people they are, just under the surface. We live in a world where we live in superficiality, so it’s natural for there to be a place like reddit where people can be “themselves” or the parts of themselves that they can’t admit during their daily lives. If you don’t like it, I don’t think the writer or the audience for the post cares.

In the argument for the “bigger picture.” I agree that it’s murky. Where do consequences lie in this paradigm? Not sure. I guess my rough opinion is that you have 2 views on the world. You either think people are genuinely good people (for the most part), or they are not. I tend to think they are (or delude myself into believing this) and think that the posts that’re garbage stay in those dark places for good reason.

Reddit is not a moral place, and it’s not a place for idealism. It is a place for truth, raw, unedited truth (at least in the sense of people’s views, opinions, etc.) and when you try to place morality and idealism into this paradigm, as you have, you are going to be aggravated and sorely disappointed.

However, if you look at it as an experiment in all of human behavior and opinion, it is a huge step forward to see and understand the people that exist in this world, whether or not you want to believe they exist.

Reddit isn't just a cesspool of  incompetent circlejerkers that ****post all over the place, there are enthusiasts there just as well as here, if you introduce a post requirement here, people on reddit that contribute on r/mk and not here get ****ed out of buying a cap, as I presume this is not your intention, I see it as getting rid of the lurkers and having contributors to the community allowed into a sale, and this is a good initiative! I'm just saying that people who maybe don't post on GH but post often on r/MK are now being excluded from a sale because of where they come from, that's the point I'm trying to make.

I must reiterate, this is a positive move, I just think you need to consider the GH users who don't post here often, yet contribute on other communities the chance to get in on your sales.

Dear lord this reddit thread.
Right?

If "the community" was important, he'd include all of it. Not just his exclusive club.
I just don't get this mindset. Bro is only a human being, with a wife and a kid. He doesn't mass produce, and honestly one of the hugest drawing factors along with expert craftmanship, is the exclusivity. And if he truly didn't care for this community, he would have stopped selling caps a while ago.

This was a decision I made for more personal reasons. In case you didn't know, I have been putting in way too many hours trying to 'make everyone happy'.
Unfortunately, that was making my family unhappy. I was putting myself in the position I never wanted to be in, in the first place; mass marketing. I am not
a corporation, and I am not looking to mass produce anything.

I have been listening to the complaints of 'he doesn't produce enough', and trying to make those people happy. But who are those people I am trying to please?
People who really don't care where the trinket they stick on their keyboard comes from. People that support a talent-less hack/thief with no regard for the original
artist, because he is 'filling a void'? I am not saying those kinds of people don't exist on geekhack, as well, but it's much easier to know who is who here, as it's a
much more tightly-knit community.

I do this because I like this community, and I like sharing my work with people who appreciate where it came from, the thought and time/effort put into creating
the work. There are a lot of good people on reddit, and those people have also found a home here. I am not 'forcing people to socialize', but really 100 posts are
nothing if you contribute here and there, and participate in conversations. It's not like you are sitting in a room with people staring at you, you are at home, cozy
in your boxer shorts (or naked, who knows), so you are comfortable. There is nothing to be scurred of.

So I am sorry if this rubs some people the wrong way, but at least you get an idea of 'why'.

<3

Well I'm sorry if this rubs you the wrong way. I generally browse GH every day looking at new threads. I don't feel the need to constantly have to crap-post to GH like some users who get to super high post counts here do. And my knowledge of mechanical keyboards isn't maybe as large as others. So I don't feel like I should have to post random trash that might be right or wrong to reach a stupid post count limit. I like your and other artisans's works. And whenever I have to pass them onto others due to life issues, I pass them at cost, or less than I paid for it so others can enjoy artisans' works.

But if there is one thing that pisses me off personally more than anything is that you lump damn near every single Reddit user as a crap-posting, elitist pricks. I'm not sure if you honestly realize it, but you yourself sound more like those elitist pricks than most Reddit users just by what you are saying.

And yes, this does rub me the wrong way. I like to support you and others, but you are stupidly, STUPIDLY creating an atmosphere where that is impossible to do. Your elitism in what you are doing is making me just want to come to this forum less and less.

Nubb, I like you, but you are making the exact same damn mistake Bro is making. A few users doesn't mean EVERY user is an entitled prick who justifies counterfeits and unethical behavior. For as many Ripsters, there are 1000s of other users who think he ****posts.

Honestly, this ****posting to both communities needs to stop. You guys are acting like utterly immature children. Grow up and enjoy both sources of knowledge of mechanical keyboards. I've met just as many nice and helpful people over on /r/mechanicalkeyboards as I've met over here on GH.

You and Bro's honest to goodness ****posts are doing nothing but extending the hate that both communities have wrongfully for each other. Learn to get along like real human beings. Instead of wrongfully extending the absolutely retarded hatred that two communities have for each other (And yes, I know the past history. Grow up.)

For both of you, I've lost a heck of A LOT of respect for you two.

Bro is indirectly getting newer members to respond to get their post count up to fulfill the requirement.

there are enthusiasts there just as well as here

I think this point here, makes me feel that if you are 'enthusiastic' about something, you would also participate actively in it. Let's really consider how simple it is to get 100 posts that aren't ****post/post-count-boosts;

Reply to something that interests you - if you are an enthusiast, it's pretty easy to comment on something. Participate in that conversation.

As a shy lurker, this makes me sad.  I really enjoy looking, and I post occasionally with pictures of my Bro and other artisans, but I never seem to garner much friendly discussion when I post, so I usually just play wallflower.

This is my 51st post, though, so at least I got that going for me, which is nice.

Doesn't rub me the wrong way at all. You are free to have your opinion, but it's not going to change my decision. You can call it 'stupid' all you like, but it has nothing to do with 'elitism'. You sound extremely self-entitled.
You seem to forget there is a real person on the other end of this internet connection. That doesn't seem to play into your commentary, though. If it did, you wouldn't have blindly skipped past the parts where I mentioned
my family life suffers from trying to 'meet the demand'. So I am not trying to 'meet the demand' any longer. I began here, at geekhack. It's my home for better or worse. I like this community, and the interface much more
than reddit. Reddit feels disconnected to me, and I just don't 'feel' it as much as I do geekhack.

Elitism? Requesting that people who are genuinely interested in the community, participate in the community is 'elitism'? Well, sorry you feel that way, but as I said, you have other options. Getting mad over my decision doesn't
really make sense.

I don't really care about the post counts. I do care about that they are both actively attempting to create friction between two communities that enjoy the exact same damn thing. One person in a community doesn't represent 1000 other people in that community. Ripster doesn't represent the entirety of the 88,600 users who browse /r/mk. Nor do some users here on GH represent the many, MANY other unbelievably nice users that I've personally come into contact with over here on Geekhack.

I've not mentioned Reddit or talked **** about GH Vs Reddit, hell to a few people I've been vocal about leaving this place because I've grown tired of it. I just find it funny to call out Bee on the dumb **** she posts, I don't give a **** about much else.

I support and help out those I like and try and get as much enjoyment out of this place as I can. This thread has been pretty fun IMO, it's amazing the restraint Bro has shown.

Bro, do what you gotta do for your family, man. I support your decision, it's your work to do with as you please. You're a man, not a keycap factory. The love and hard work you put into your caps really shows.

I think everyone needs to take a step back and cam down. There are several users that are trying to add to actual, legitimate discussion on the rule change, and then there are a couple people that are thread crapping and trying to add fuel to the fire. Just ignore the obvious troll replies. I stopped replying to this thread thanks to a friendly PM I got, and I think if everyone just calms down for a minute it'll be fine.

I don't care about your decision. I don't care about changing your decision. That is your choice. It is your product, and your product alone. You can do whatever you want with what you create.

I do care about that you are are creating friction between two communities that work towards the same thing with what you posted. If you feel Reddit is disconnected, fine on you. But not everyone there is one that supports talentless thieves and frauds like K<3K. For everyone one user over there who supports those talentless hacks out of the 88.6 thousand people who browse there, there are probably 10 thousand others who DON'T support those people. That is the attitude you are blatantly giving off in your second paragraph.

I'm not self-entitled to your products. I join the raffles like anyone else. I was overjoyed to win one of them because I got to support your art. However, I will be righteously self-entitled to say to you that both communities are awesome, and causing friction between the two is utterly retarded. And is quite possibly the most elitist, stuck-up thing you could do. You want GH to grow? Stop causing this bull**** history that a few people caused to remain. The other 88,597 people don't give a damn about it and just want to enjoy both GH and /r/MK.

It amazes me how much garbage can be posted in response to a simple rule change. It's very easy to get to 100 posts if you're actually interested in a community and their activities. So you might miss out on one, two, maybe three sales before you get to 100? BFD ... Don't be a little ***** and contribute to group buy threads, interest checks threads etc.

Please re-read what I wrote.  I talked about a percentage of the userbase, not everyone, who are toxic and cause the negative perceptions.  Hell, I even spoke for reducing the hatred and trying other communities to see if it works for you.  If you take the time to read what I said objectively, it's in defense of unifying communities and recognizing the humanity of people and the impossibility of pleasing everyone.  Why should someone try and please people who constantly rip on him?  That's just all around detrimental to his mental health.

I've had far more negative interactions at r/mk than GH, but that doesn't mean that my experiences are more valid than someone who has only had good experiences there.  It just means our experiences are different.

And on the Bro front, when you continue to see other artist's hard work devalued and counterfeits supported on a forum, you can understand why he may decide to try and shift the distribution of his content from one forum to another.

If recognizing that there are ****ty people everywhere and that people have a right to protect their sanity makes you lose respect for me, then I guess we have different values.
