This was a decision I made for more personal reasons. In case you didn't know, I have been putting in way too many hours trying to 'make everyone happy'.
Unfortunately, that was making my family unhappy. I was putting myself in the position I never wanted to be in, in the first place; mass marketing. I am not
a corporation, and I am not looking to mass produce anything.

I have been listening to the complaints of 'he doesn't produce enough', and trying to make those people happy. But who are those people I am trying to please?
People who really don't care where the trinket they stick on their keyboard comes from. People that support a talent-less hack/thief with no regard for the original
artist, because he is 'filling a void'? I am not saying those kinds of people don't exist on geekhack, as well, but it's much easier to know who is who here, as it's a
much more tightly-knit community.

I do this because I like this community, and I like sharing my work with people who appreciate where it came from, the thought and time/effort put into creating
the work. There are a lot of good people on reddit, and those people have also found a home here. I am not 'forcing people to socialize', but really 100 posts are
nothing if you contribute here and there, and participate in conversations. It's not like you are sitting in a room with people staring at you, you are at home, cozy
in your boxer shorts (or naked, who knows), so you are comfortable. There is nothing to be scurred of.

So I am sorry if this rubs some people the wrong way, but at least you get an idea of 'why'.

<3

Ayyyy respect.

You've gone far beyond what most people would have done in terms of trying to keep everyone happy.

Just seems that with success comes haters, even in this tiny niche of keyboard enthusiasts.

I say fvck 'em. You do you, bro. You do you.

I have never had a GH account until recently I decided I wanted to get into artisans. To be honest I thought GH was a forum for international (non-US) people because whenever I heard the forum name it was a people discussing international shipping/layouts or artisans. I don't see why this 100 post thing is such a big deal, I'm sure after 2-3 weeks I can get there if I really REALLY want. I have seen your work and it's a pretty big reason for me wanting to get into collecting artisans for a few of my keyboards. I got my very first one from Boopers 1st sale and I already feel hooked! I got this awesome monkey cap staring back at me. I gotta say I love the Russler and Stompy caps.

Obligatory reddit identification

I'm saddened by this news, as I try to be active on geekhack, and while I've been around for close to 5 months, quite a lot of my activity is through private messages all the way up to private conversation.  I've taken part in several group buys and try to give feedback, especially to the makers of my favorite caps.  I now just need to be more active to take part in bros stuff, which is his call to make.  Honestly though, I don't mind the encouragement to liven up this board more and meet more people here, as I haven't really had a bad experience with anyone here yet, most people seem very friendly and helpful, and much less troll-ridden like some areas of reddit.  I'm just kind of sad that I may miss a sale or two, as I want my posts to mostly be positive for the community, while trying to avoid being spammy.

Just do it already. It's not like they understand words. They only understand caps that fall in their laps.

So much butthurt.

There is **** on both forums.  /r/mk users tend to be entitled and justify counterfeits and unethical behavior so that they get theirs and **** everyone else.  GH can be intimidating for some and there are some people who can be abrasive.  I dove in headfirst, made some big posts, and found a community that was welcoming and encouraging. This whole community divide really started with riptard though and just ballooned from there.  Instead of people giving something different a chance, they internalized his BS and we have what we see now.

And remember, GH has always been about a community, not a sales forum, so it makes sense that someone would want to encourage commitment to a community that they're a member of.  Why should he work his ass off to make people happy who have no investment in the community and are going to **** on him for not getting something in his sale because he can't make enough for everyone.  He's making the right choice to scale back, make it more for the community and making more time for his family.

Nubb, I like you, but you are making the exact same damn mistake Bro is making. A few users doesn't mean EVERY user is an entitled prick who justifies counterfeits and unethical behavior. For as many Ripsters, there are 1000s of other users who think he ****posts.

Honestly, this ****posting to both communities needs to stop. You guys are acting like utterly immature children. Grow up and enjoy both sources of knowledge of mechanical keyboards. I've met just as many nice and helpful people over on /r/mechanicalkeyboards as I've met over here on GH.

You and Bro's honest to goodness ****posts are doing nothing but extending the hate that both communities have wrongfully for each other. Learn to get along like real human beings. Instead of wrongfully extending the absolutely retarded hatred that two communities have for each other (And yes, I know the past history. Grow up.)

For both of you, I've lost a heck of A LOT of respect for you two.

Please re-read what I wrote.  I talked about a percentage of the userbase, not everyone, who are toxic and cause the negative perceptions.  Hell, I even spoke for reducing the hatred and trying other communities to see if it works for you.  If you take the time to read what I said objectively, it's in defense of unifying communities and recognizing the humanity of people and the impossibility of pleasing everyone.  Why should someone try and please people who constantly rip on him?  That's just all around detrimental to his mental health.

I've had far more negative interactions at r/mk than GH, but that doesn't mean that my experiences are more valid than someone who has only had good experiences there.  It just means our experiences are different.

And on the Bro front, when you continue to see other artist's hard work devalued and counterfeits supported on a forum, you can understand why he may decide to try and shift the distribution of his content from one forum to another.

If recognizing that there are ****ty people everywhere and that people have a right to protect their sanity makes you lose respect for me, then I guess we have different values.

I'll admit that I did misread what you said in a way. You are correct in your first post that I replied to. But your second post, the one that I'm replying to, basically defeats the purpose of what you were trying to say in your original post. Like I've said time and time again, one or a few users does not fully represent an entire community. Especially one as large as /r/MK, which has over 88 THOUSAND subscribers viewing the content there. A few users' posts isn't a good reason to crap on the other 87,997 other people that browse there. I mean, it is his product, he can do what he wants with it. But that doesn't give you carte blanche status to crap on an entire community. Particularly one where people enjoy the subject matter, mechanical keyboards, just as much as people do here on GH. Continuing the friction that a few users on both sides of the table started doesn't make a healthy community. There are awesome people here on GH like there are awesome people over on /r/MK. There are ****ty people over here on GH, just like there are ****ty users over on /r/MK. However, those ****ty users on both sides of the table are a massive minority compared to the majority of users who just enjoy both places' content.

But once again, I will apologize for my previous reply to you earlier. That was out of line for me in replying to what you said.

Meh I don't see this post requirement being too much different than the 25 post requirement for posting in the classifieds. In both cases if you want to enjoy a certain Geekhack-provided privilege you have to sort of show some committment to the GH community. And with Brocaps being as coveted as they are, I don't see why buying them shouldn't be considered a kind of privilege.

At first I thought the 25 post requirement for classifieds was a bit annoying, but once I started posting pictures of my caps/boards over on Geekhack media I really appreciated the positive comments I received. Now, I don't really feel posting is much of a chore. If anything this will help me explore some threads I don't usually visit and maybe contribute more in those. Idk, just my $ .02, hope I didn't offend anyone  ;D

Again, I'm not speaking about every user, but the vocal ones you see and what you see when you look at upvotes/downvotes.  I'm not generalizing to an entire userbase, but stating that you can see why someone may become disenfranchised with one forum when you see certain things on it keep getting upvoted and others keep getting downvoted.

I'm going to stop replying now though since I feel like my calm and metered responses keep on getting misinterpreted.

I joined GH June 2014 and got my first bro in Feb 2015. Who cares if you miss a sale or two? It's the mentality that you 'missed out' which breeds all this butthurt.

The reason GH is better than /r/MK (I have had a reddit account for 6 years) is that you get to know characters and people can't downvote your opinions from behind their veil of anonymity. Quote some people, ask some questions, make some friends or get into an argument about keyboards. S'all good. Soon enough you'll have 100 posts... but hopefully you don't stop there.

If anyone sees members here ****ting on reddit and take it personally then you need to wake up. There is no 'war' between the different sites, just a handful of users trolling or being cry babies.

As a shy lurker, this makes me sad.  I really enjoy looking, and I post occasionally with pictures of my Bro and other artisans, but I never seem to garner much friendly discussion when I post, so I usually just play wallflower.

This is my 51st post, though, so at least I got that going for me, which is nice.
I'll be your friend then and talk to you

Just be confident and ignore anyone being silly, I'm usually the same but most of the people here are nice, and I don't think any mean what they say most are just big teddys

Thanks!! I do try to just be optimistic, I really appreciate the sentiment :) I guess I'll just work on stepping outside my comfort zone!

I'm not terribly sad when I don't win, and try not to be butthurt, but it's more the excitement of seeing the wonderful things, and having the lottery fantasy of how my life would change with just that 1 perfect key on my board :P  I know I'll be there soon, and as I said, I love the community with the interaction I've had so far :)

Sounds good  :thumb:  I'm probably more active on reddit (I browse tons of subs all the time) but GH made my keyboard love turn into an obsession! See you around the forum!

So glad you got one of those. They are pretty amazing; her stuff is first rate.

They sure seem that way. I got the Tungsten Twinkle and it is every bit as cool in person as in the picture http://i.imgur.com/uWkjLq3.jpg
Sadly I can't find a SD card reader to post my photos from my DSLR of it on its new Ducky Shine Mini home but the grey matched REALLY nice. Now I just gotta find him some friends so he doesn't look so lonely.

Thank you for all of the words of encouragement! Expert/niche communities are really intimidating even after you've been a part of them for a while - there are just so many egos and strong opinions. Of course those things are also part of what makes the community so great  :thumb:

I mean I've been here almost a year, I just don't post much

You've been quasi-lurking a bit longer than me, but I'm in there with ya :)  Just need to get ourselves out there more :)
I mean, I only like posting when I know I can contribute as much information as others, and I'm nowhere close to these guys (I still know a bit, but...)

Bro, half of my posts here are asking questions or clarifications. Don't stress over knowing as much as others.
Thanks for the encouragement.
I'm just that type of guy, but I'll try to post more. :)

I've had my account since march, but I usually just lurk. This community can feel a little intimidating when there's a lot of knowledgeable members with thousands of posts out there, meanwhile you're there with almost no posts trying to get involved in the community slowly but surely.

That being said, I can totally see wanting some community involvment from the members buying artisians made by other community members.

Just sharing my experience.

QFT! I think a lot of OG members have long forgotten how intimidating this place can be, and I mean that as a compliment. There are some people here with insane amounts of knowledge. And what do I know? Well I know how to use a keycap puller lol. I feel like my range of knowledge is info that people already know, so it'll just be ignored anyway. On the other hand asking "obvious" questions will just annoy veteran members. Still, I don't think 100 posts is too much of an ask. I've been a lurker since 2013 as well, so I have faith in you.  ;D

Wow, this thread...  :(  I'm pretty disappointed in how a lot of geekhack users are treating others. As has been said, we all started as noobs and we stuck around because people probably weren't *******s to us. Maybe pass that favor along?

To all the lurkers out there, please don't be afraid to post. There are many more of us that appreciate it than the few in here complaining.

I came from reddit myself, so if any geekhackers universally hate all redditors then I guess we must not be friends.  :(  Let's be a bit more logical, and realize that every community has its bad eggs. We need to not encourage more animosity by generalizing, and instead be reasonable about the whole ordeal.

As a final note to the lurkers who feel they are missing out on Bros, know that I didn't get my first Bro until I had at least 1,000 posts. You'll be fine, I promise.  :)

Also started on reddit new people bring in new content all the time. Don't be afraid to post. This kind of stuff doesn't happen often. It's just when it does that word spreads quickly with such a niche community (and Ripster often putting his own spin on events doesn't help any either). We're a pretty friendly place, really!

reading through the past two pages, it's kind of hilarious that this arms race of hate between GH and reddit is self-perpetuating. I spend most of my time lurking on reddit but I do post here a lot, and I like to think of myself as fairly partial and fair. Some of the more prolific and vocal posters here tend to be very opinionated, and people at reddit see those posts and in turn develop resentment towards GH because those are the types of users they see and think of as the "GH community". People blame ripster or some stupid **** but I never see anyone on GH say "hey, maybe it's because we have a ****ty attitude towards reddit that they have a ****ty attitude towards us".

not the right thread for this but just my 2c.

either way, to bring this back to the point - I need those lycans... I need them. NEED.
