So, I've not really given anything back to this community besides some ****ty posts. The community on this board are truly terrific. Even hard asses like Demik has a soft side and helped me out hugely. I won't start naming names, but I want to thank you all again for the help I've received and I never want you to think it has gone unappreciated.

Life has took a turn for the good lately. Me, my better half and daughter are moving into a house on the 15th March. I found a job working for Next which is fairly decent pay. So without further ado, I've decided that I'm going to give away the first mechanical keyboard I got which is a Filco Majestouch 2 TKL ISO layout with brown switches. It'll come with blank black keycaps (Gave Bunny originals).

Potato picture.

All you have to do is comment in this thread but include why you think this site is so great. Or just talk crap, I don't mind either way.

Minimum posts for entry are 100.

It'll end some around this time next month. We're going to make an actual video raffle so you know it's all legit. Ava will pick out a winner and present it on video.

Thanks again everyone.

Binge has been around since 2009 on GeekHack. I once asked him what kept him around for five years on this website. He replied that, "There was so much life on GeekHack". And that there was something great about the community that kept attracting great people. "No one on any other forum is traveling the USA or going to gravesites."

I think that somehow GeekHack has fostered a genuine community on the internet where people can come and do amazing DIY projects, buy keyboards, and ogle keycaps. But it's also a place to come talk about our favorite snacks, swap pictures of our pets, and just chat. It's both odd and endearing that there are routinely threads. So-and-so has been away for a while and I miss them. That's pretty cool.

Anyways, congrats on your new job and home! And thanks for doing this giveaway :D.

Geekhack is great because it brings together geeks. For once, we can discuss any esoteric tech-and-gadget related topic we like, and find similarly interested people to share their thoughts and experiences.

I am not even technically trained. Yet in this forum, I have learned much, and gone on to do some soldering and wiring which I have never done in my life.

This forum is best for sharing information and education. For learning and experimenting. Geeks love talking about all kinds of weird and interesting tech trivia, and introducing other geeks to their inventions, adaptations or improvements.

Thanks to geekhack, I can just log on when I have a monitor problem (as I did recently) and ask a question, and within 1 hour get several informed replies. Thanks to geekhack, I've met people who are happy to help me customize my keyboard just because they love tinkering. Thanks to geekhack, I have also done lots of small favours to people whom I've never met in my life or even seen photos of.

I think this website has brought out many good qualities in us geeks, and also encouraged us to communicate with other geeks all over the world. We have people living in obscure Russian cities now surrounded by vast expanses of snow, and we have people from Brazil and South Africa and other sports-mad societies where a geek will normally not get to meet fellow geeks. I can't imagine life without geekhack anymore - it feels so much more boring.

Well, Geekhack is a great site because there are many genuine, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful people here. When I first discovered this forum I sat up for 24+ hours straight and looked at pictures and read about all kinds of keyboards. When I first came here I thought that the Blackwidow was the cream of the crop, boy was I wrong.

That's just my 2 cents. :)

I like this site because, even though keyboard people create more drama than a bunch of high school freshman girls, they're also too nice for their own good. We're pretty cool when you get down to it. Everyone's done something nice for someone else on the forum.

Congrats on your life turning for the better!

There's a lot of stupid **** on this site but that's okay it's usually in good fun.

There's also annoying fanboys  who unabashedly endorse products despite having never tried anything else.

I will say that people on this forum are very helpful ... Even to some posts where the op clearly hasn't done his/her own (at least basic) research beforehand.

Geekhack keeps me coming back because I never thought I would laugh as hard as I did when reading a thread about how to actuate the control key in its standard position layout.

Little intricacies like this come up from time to time and it is very interesting to see enthusiasts viewpoints regarding the smallest of matters. :D

Congrats on the job and the crib!

The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.

I will agree with CPT above that GH feels "alive".  I have been on multiple car enthusiast forums and have been on OCN for years, but GH just has a small group feel that makes you feel included even if you don't post a ton.  Between the huge generosity and the fun that is had (both in sharing keyboards and b.s.ing in most every topic) there is a genuine feeling of hanging out with friends.

As much as I'd like a Filco keyboard, and as much as I'm curious to try MX browns, I think the ISO layout would drive me crazy.

Good luck everyone - fantastic community spirit and generosity are what make GH!

As well as the keyboards, of course.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. Razer Anonymous?

Before I joined GH I was going to buy a Razor BlackWidow keyboard.  I thought they looked so great, with the backlighting and everything.

Then I found GH and GH taught me the truth.

Now I am better and have three Duckys, two Model M, a KeyCool and an HHKB.

Before I joined Geekhack the best keyboard I ever bought was Logitech DiNovo edge (great board as far as std rubber domes go) but I love electronics and peripheries etc. and Geekhack is just the perfect community for me, where like minded people can chat about whatever. It has totally destroyed my wallet though :( Topre has also changed my life though :thumb:

Just as a matter of interest if I win the board I will be passing it on to a close friend who desperately needs a decent board but just got married and doesn't have the cash at the moment, he already wants to get in on the LCARS GB :) I don't have much need for another Filco myself anyway.

What I love about GH is that is feels like a community not just another forum.

People.....hands down!!!  :thumb:

There are so many keyboard elders on this site with vast knowledge on more than just mechanical keyboards. They are always willing to answer questions, run Group Buys, and donate to this great community.

Please don't add me to the raffle for this keyboard....I have enough keyboards (<--- I'm sure we've all said this before) and I don't use the ISO layout. I just wanted to express my appreciation for this awesome community!!!

Please do this for my entry as well. I also just wanted to contribute to this giveaway and voice what I liked about GeekHack :D.

unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

They're not as fanatical as geekhackers though.
I mean look at all the $60 cooler masters on Reddit

Keep me in the raffle, I like the ISO return! But really, the important thing about geekhack is that geeks like to share knowledge and help other geeks. There seems to be a 'tech support culture' here (can't help but wonder if the default job for many geekhackers is tech support).

We're not competitive jocks always trying to bully the little guy (dare I name Pacifist?) or the ignorant fool (me). That's why I love this forum so much.

I was thinking of throwing away a monitor once. Casually made a post asking for technical advice, expected none. Got lots of useful replies in 8 hours. Now when I really, really need that spare monitor, I know to desolder the capacitators thanks to that capacitator plague a few years back.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

In the 2ish months  that I've actually been on here (made an account a whole back but didn't really start until recently), I've learned more than ever about not just keyboards, but so much else. That's the great thing about GH, even though it's a keyboard forum, the community is so diverse, you manage to learn so much more about such a wide variety of things. It's also one of the biggest forums I've seen that still manages to have a tight-knit feel. A piddly 100-post noob can talk to any of the elites on here (^ how do you even get that many posts?).
