[IC] Gold Springs (50g-120g)
« on: Thu, 27 February 2014, 08:46:14 »
I want to see how interested people would be if I supplied Sprits gold springs from his group buy within the United States. We have been talking about this for awhile now, although all of the information hasn't been worked out, I want to check peoples interest in something like this.

These springs are gold plated and come in various weights.

Weights: 50g, 55g, 60g, 62g, 65g, 68g, 70g, 75g, 80g, 85g, 100g, 120g.

Total pricing isn't completely worked out but to give you a rough estimate it should be around $10 per pack of springs, and shipping will be around 5 dollars. I want to keep this CONUS.

To make it easier on myself and everyone else I want the springs to be in my possession before I start any group buy or start selling to you guys. This would make it so you aren't waiting on shipping to the US from Korea, and then to you. I know people hate waiting on group buys so if I can do it this way, it will be fast. Once everyone pays I would like to have all the orders shipped out within a week.

As of right now all I need to know is if you guys are interested, and if you are, what spring weights you want to see.

Thanks  :)

I think we have decided on 110 per pack.

Remember people, I am just doing shipping in the US. If you want someone to proxie for you, do so, but I am not shipping to other countries myself.

You can still order springs from sprit himself here, I am just trying to bring the cost down after shipping and speed up everything for CONUS buyers.

I'd probably be interested. I'd want, specifically, to go for the extremes -- 50g, and 100g.

Of course, if he gets his ALPS boards moving before you get ahold of any springs, I needn't pay for double shipping. But he's trying to sort out having a complete kit before offering any pieces so it looks like that will take awhile.

Yes, that is why I am keeping it conus.

People probably aren't going to save much if any if they are shipping it from the US out of the US, when these are already out of the US to begin with. I told sprit that people probably don't even realize he has all these springs, since it can be easy to miss if you aren't also getting a keyboard from him.

That's why I decided to quit Sprit's group buy. I find it really hard to keep track of his update. I ended up getting those PCB from a GB in China instead  :'(

I Definitely want at least 2 sets of something, but I'm really not sure which ones... Because we don't know how they compare to Originative and stock springs yet.  Does the gold coating make them slightly tougher / springier?  Also does anyone think that 50g springs from here would be basically equivalent to Originative's "45g" springs?  (I don't think those are really 45g).

I know I would be interested in some just not real sure what weights.  I have stock cherry "light" springs and springs from Clear switches.  I wouldn't mind something about middle of the road there and something a step or two heavier.

55g, 60g, 62g, 65g, 68g, 70g

I have an order placed with Sprit, but I'm still waiting to hear back from him.

Nonetheless, I would be happy to order more since these seem to be difficult to find.

I'd be ordering 50 sets off the start so I know how everything goes first, but I will get more after that if it all works out. I do not want to get stuck with over a thousand dollars worth of springs that nobody buys :P

So some people might not get in for the first trial run, but my plans are to keep a constant supply as long as there is still demand.  :thumb:

Any chance we can find a manufacturer that can make progressive rate springs?  Traditional Cherry and Korean springs from what I have seen are a linear rate.  I want to try some springs in my cherries that are of an exponential rate.

Here is sprits description of each spring weight. Understand that I will be going down the list, and some people will not get included for the first "round" since I am only ordering 50 packs off the start.
If all goes well then there will be more runs.  :thumb:

My 50g  is a little bit lighter than MX Red
My 55g  is similar to MX Red, Brown, Blue
My 60g  is similar to some Vintage MX Blue and some Blue
My 62g  is similar to MX White Click
My 65g  is similar to MX Skyblue Click
My 68g  is similar to some Vintage MX Black
My 70g  is similar to some MX Green
My 75g-80g  is similar to some MX Black
My 85g  is similar to MX Clear
My 100g  is similar to MX Grey Nonclick in MX Clear Keyboards.
My 120g  super-heavy

Yeah, I got the same from him but then more from a further discussion.  He assumed that we consider standard light Cherry switches (red/brown/blue) to be 55g, but I said we think they are more like 60g here.  So I don't know how that skews that list, if at all.  Also, he said that ~50-70g switches have a steeper slope and start out a bit softer, which sounds cool and more like Clear spring slope.  Also this: "My 80g and 85g starts a little bit heavier to actuate than the MX Clear" and "but my 75g has a soft start like MX Clear, I guess."  Slightly confused in how to interpret all that without actually testing them all against currently tested springs and adding them to Alaric's graph, at least as a visual slope / relative position comparison, if not normalized properly.

This too: "My 50g  is a little bit lower than MX Red  (similar to the Originative Current 55g Version)
My 55g  is similar to MX Red, Brown, Blue
My 60g  is similar to some Vintage MX Blue
My 62g  is similar to MX White Click
My 65g  is similar to MX Skyblue Click
My 68g  is similar to some Vintage MX Black
My 70g  is similar to some MX Green
My 75g-80g  is similar to some MX Black
My 85g  is similar to MX Clear
My 100g  is similar to MX Grey Nonclick in MX Clear Keyboards."

I'm confused about the 62g comparison to MX White--I thought MX White was heavier than that.

What I was planning on doing was waiting until the current orders have shipped to people and see what people say about how the spring weights compare to the springs they currently have. (I know some people have a bunch of springs sitting around)

Does that sound like a good plan?

I have some springs on the way in my first order, most importantly are the 68g springs, which I want to compare to my 67g limited springs from originative.

I do not want to rush into this and have people end up saying the weights weren't what they were expecting, so getting community feedback from sprits first round orders might be important information to have first.
