Sorry for the bad pics beforehand, those were taken with my old Desire Gen1, which has been through a lot (understatement of the year).

Recently updated to an impro standing desk, loving it so far,
aiming for a self built wooden desk made from a walnut tree
that got itself ripped out of the ground in the last summer storm.
Have to wait for the wood to dry, though.

On the right is a K1 Raptor with leftover keys and a T400 in Dock.
Mouse is a MX508 (Merge between my old MX500 and a MX518 i had left over,
MX500 Sensor is still the best imo)

Current Setup for my Main, Siberia v2, Roccat Apuri Scorp Hub, Desire Dock, DECT-Phone,
pocket contents (iPod nano, credit card pack /w rubber band, Swiss knife, lighter with attached usb stick (BYOS)
Keyboard is a Noppoo Choc Mini with R4 NOIRs and some Keypop & Techkey singles.

Mouse is a G9x i got for 15€ from ebay when interviewing for a new mouse after my G5r bought it,
it hasn't left my hand since, though i wouldn't mind getting a G5r in decent condition,
because i love that surface texture.

Palm rests are my first attempt at sewing them myself, working on a bean bag style one currently.

Nothing special, just thought of showing off my whiteboard ;)
Note the sawhorse-style desk stand.

Hanging fabric from the ceiling makes for a more comfier room, because the ceiling is as high as 3,5m.

Currently looking for a way to diffuse the light evenly from the ceiling,
tried out led strips and horizontal 5° spotlight so far, but no joy. Ideas, anyone?

Slightly. I mean it's neat, but it's right in your face, and that would bother me. I just attached my multiboxes (6 & 8) to the underside of my desk behind the vertical board, keeps them hidden and i'm not constantly kicking them

what's that hanging from your ceiling?
Simple linen fabric.
It's there to lower the perception of the room, making it feel more cozy.

My first thought was it was sound dampening.

Does it dampen sound at all?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

pardon the poor lighting. since i took that picture i've pretty much stopped using the macbook open, since three screens makes it work a bit harder than i like. Plus its quite a bit more cluttered now. but mostly i'm enjoying the giant ass monitor i just bought.

I thought so too at first, but between the hardwood floors, gas stove, a lot of wooden furniture, 3 smoke detectors and 2 fire extinguishers, it doesn't exactly shatter the balance of the force :D

That would be a 29" 21:9 ratio monitor. "Cinema" ratio.

Standard is 16:9 so when viewing movies and such you don't get any black bars.

is that a 30" display on a triple mount? I've been trying to find a desk mount that will handle a 30" display plus two ancillary displays, but have had no luck. where did you get that mount?!

also, where is your wallpaper from?  ;)

Back-illuminate the sheets from above so that the sheets do the dispersing? LEDs or more standard bulbs, whatever light source is bright enough/suits your needs.  Something like this maybe:

You're in luck, the supplier I use is based in the UK and they're really really well priced, although it's for a reason... The arms aren't gas sprung or anything fancy, but they are bloody solid.

The monitor arm is a mixture of a dual monitor bracket and a pair of extension arms, these additional arms add enough length that you should be able to do a PLP setup with up to a 32" center:

Mixture of things... Couple of deluge clients, a utorrent client, IRC and some network monitoring tools. I like to have everything i'm monitoring open at once.

thank you so much, That's awesome! I don't need gas sprung arms or anything like that, I just need to be able to mount 3 monitors just like how you have yours. Very reasonable price.

Could I also ask you where you got that little shelf from for your middle monitor? I'm guessing it's IKEA, but I can't find the little shelf thing with the little feet? I'm gonna be getting a Galant desk, and would like a little raised bit just like yours.

I've always liked the look of the monitors up on a shelf, but never have done it because they seem too high up to comfortably view.

I'm not quite sure because it is strictly subjective, but i think it does reduce reverberation a bit.

looks like a fire hazard to me
I thought so too at first, but between the hardwood floors, gas stove, a lot of wooden furniture, 3 smoke detectors and 2 fire extinguishers, it doesn't exactly shatter the balance of the force :D

haha. got a point there.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

I have moved to Amsterdam leaving almost all my hardware behind in Spain. Amsterdam is (in)famous for high rents and small apartments. Regarding my budget and the time I'm going to spend here (1 year, maybe more), I have had to optimize resources and not to buy too much furniture and stuff I would have to leave behind in the future.

I lack a proper desk at my apartment and not too much room in my Amsterdarmer room, so I have decided to experiment with the standup desk idea while keeping the budget as minimum as possible. Now I only have a Macbook Air as main (and only) machine and a nice brandless CM QFR Mx Blues. My Logitech M570 does not appear in the picture, but is here with me.

The solution has been the cheapest (and lightest) Ikea shelf which I have modified to adapt to my height and hand position. The weight was an issue because I had to transport by metro! Cost of the "desk": 9.99€. It is the least fancy setup around here, but I'm glad with the results ... and it is dirty cheap!

For me it was an interesting experience realising that the more necessary belongings I have can be put all of them together in two medium size luggages. I have left some stuff behind, but I have not miss it too much here in my new life (except Model Ms :D) This is a "starting again" about material things and I really can't complain too much.

My problem is I am naturally a hoarder.  So many boxes of stuff I might never use, but one just just *might* need.

very jealous of that set up!

is that a 30" display on a triple mount? I've been trying to find a desk mount that will handle a 30" display plus two ancillary displays, but have had no luck. where did you get that mount?!

also, where is your wallpaper from?  ;)

That's a heck of a lot of data you got going on in those side monitors.  What're you looking at?

Mixture of things... Couple of deluge clients, a utorrent client, IRC and some network monitoring tools. I like to have everything i'm monitoring open at once.

I have a sort of related question. If I have 3 24" monitors, I'd have to buy the monitor mount and how many of those additional arms?

Depending on the orientation of your monitors I would say you'd need a minimum of one (PLP)

However if you're going for a portrait + portrait + portrait setup you would need to two i'd say.

I was thinking of having all three landscape. I'm just having trouble finding a monitor stand that doesn't cost more than my monitors themselves to accomplish it.

That is a real problem. "oh, you want a good monitor stand to handle your monitors? That would be 800€, please." :D

They are quite limited when it comes to size and weight. The only ones I have been able to find which can take the larger heavier displays have been freakishly expensive. If anyone knows of a cheap and sturdy one, let me know.
