I feel like I'm nearing my endgame, and I was wondering where everyone else is at or wants to be at with their keyboard collection.

I have a total of 3 (1 MX, 2 Topre), but I want to end up with 2 (one of each). I'm at this strange crossroads where I don't know if I should sell my FC660C anymore because my Topre novelty keycap collection jumped from 0 to 2, and my incoming HHKB doesn't have enough room for them and a Christmas set. And if I do stay with 3, I'll have more keyboards than I need for my desktop and laptop. I would like more perspective from people who have been in this game for longer and have thought more about this.

A lot of people rotate between keyboards, keeping them fresh. That way, you can have as many as you can store.

Only other keyboards I want are a Model F (of any variety, preferably a 122) and a Topre (preferably a NovaTouch, if they ever come out).

Other than that, I'm perfectly content with what I have.

If you actually use them, it would be hard to justify more than about a dozen.

If you buy them as investments, as many as you can afford.

If they are collectors' items, about triple the amount you have display space for.

If you aren't an idiot, 1, your favorite.

I own "a few" currently. I'd like to own "a few" more in the future. Between MX, BS, and topre there are enough variants and alternate layouts that I don't really have any two that I consider redundant. They each are nice for their own purposes, and I rotate between them depending on my mood.

I would love to own and keep at least 8, currently I have only 2 boards. While I'm pleasantly content, too much of a good thing is just a good thing

I have gone through more keyboards than I can count (I was into keyboards before I got into the mechanical version). See sig for current lineup (I also have an Apple aluminum keyboard that I use on my recording computer).

Previously I've gone through a Das Keyboard, 3 Filcos, 2 QFRs, 3 RealForces, a HHKB, another FC660C, 3 Poker X's, 3 ErgoDoxes, a Matias Tactile Pro 3, a Unicomp Ultra Classic, two Dell AT101Ws, and probably a few more I can't remember. That's just since joining GH in 2010. Before that I'd gone through pretty much all the MS Ergo boards and Razer boards, a Creative Fatal1ty keyboard, a few EluminX boards, and a bunch of things like iRocks and Auravision.

I'm not sure when I'll stop. I love typing way too much. Next up: AcidFire's Axios/Nexus, the Keyboard.io Model 01, and (just because I have a soft spot in my heart for chiclet-style scissor switches), probably a Razer DeathStalker.

I've owned as many as 7 keyboards at once. I've since given my Poker II to my mother to use, cannibalized my g710+ for parts, and I'm in the process of selling my Shine 3.

Ever since I got my KUL w/ clears, I haven't felt driven to use/buy anything else.

In my opinion, get just what you need. Figure out what your endgame is, and stop there.

I currently own 3, but I've recently made a rule for myself that for every new keyboard I get, I must sell one of my prior ones. I'm still a college student, so I don't have tons to spend on keyboards, I don't even own a single novelty/artisan cap. I look forward to when I get a real job I can venture further down into the rabbit hole.

I have 4 (had 5 at max and sold 1). I don't need/want more keyboards, but my love for the model F got me to the conclusion that I want one with a better layout and these are much harder to find and harder on the budget. And I would like to try an ergonomic one with split hands. Hard decisions since I don't want to spend much more, so I will need to trade sell some stuff to get some new stuff or invest from time to time.

On a useful basis, I need only 3, 1 for the job, 1 for home, 1 as backup!

currently own 3 and they all get stroked almost daily.

mx greens- for when im home alone and can make a ton of noise

topre- for gaming

mx browns- when the gf is asleep and making any form of noise is liable to start world war III

with that said, i am looking into another board, however i havent narrowed my list down to exactly what yet. maybe a kustom? brb googling korean ~~broads~~ boards

I'm new to this whole scene so I'm happy with my Filco for now. We're still in that initial honeymoon period.

I've got the GMK Dolch set and some thick PBT Leopolds on the way though, so those should keep me happy for a while. The only other switches that interest me currently are MX clears but they're a pain to get hold of so I may just wait until I can afford a custom board and work on it as a project.

Currently around 10, still wanna get realforce 55g so it's already +1, ducky mini seems tempting so let's count it as +2, additionally i need to grow for ergodox so it's already +3. And finally my dream board which someday I'll make at my own when finally I'll have enough time to make custom black alu case, cherry mx blue + white backlight + dsa + usb hub inside + fully programmable + detachable cable and ................ damn it.......... so yeah. To sum up there's no minimum never ever.

I don't really have a count or number of keyboards I want to own. I know for sure I will eventually own a GON NS 87. I have no intention of giving up my Filco or Phantom. I'm working on building another Phantom, an ErgoDox, and I'm probably going to start building a 60% board soon. I would also like to try Topre as well since there seem to be so many ravenous fans around here. So that's like 6 I can think of right now.

I started out by convincing myself (and the wife) that I would just buy a Filco Ninja with reds and that would be it. I also had no interest in artisan caps ... until the first BroBot V2 sale.

One big problem for me is that I have quite a few switch types that I really like, even though some of them are essentially impossible to find in straight-ANSI layout.

Edit - as I started doing a mental inventory, I hit 2 dozen quickly and am not near finished.

And, I have never owned any Topre, ever, and currently own only 1 Cherry.

I definitely have over 40 keyboards, maybe about 50. At one point, I had 64 boards.

I'd like to get down to ~5 by the end of this summer. ErgoDox for home use, TypeMatrix 2030 for travel, and some extra stuff I use only every now and then, like an Access-IS keypad, a Cherry G80 switch-tester keyboard and Noppoo Choc Mini for gaming.

I think it should be N = p - n - 1 , which in your form would be p = n + N + 1 , rather than subtracting the 1. The way you have it implies that the current number plus the number wanted is actually higher than the threshold for the wife getting mad, but the way my braing is imagining it you'd want the current plus wanted to be one fewer than the threshold. Please correct if I'm wrong.

But anyway, this is all irrelevant to single people! My desired number of keyboards is infinite according to this!

But how do we count keypad in all that? are they considered 15% of a keyboard? Then does a full size keyboard counts as more than a TKL or 60%?

IMO, I would only count something with alphas as being a keyboard. A numpad is an accessory to me, and meant to supplement. And typically you'd pair it with a TKL or 60%, so the two of them together would equal one "full" keyboard. But that's just me, I'm sure someone will disagree.
