Sorry it's late guys. I've been in Amsterdam for the last five days, and it's been pretty awesome. It's a really lovely city. Anyway. Week five was pretty good, although a week of blowouts more than anything else, with only one matchup finishing with less than a 10 point gap between the opponents.
That match was between myself and Hwood. It was generally a close fought affair. The only time Hwood would start Jay Cutler would be when Ryan Tannehill was on a bye, and that week was this week. Fortunately he didn't let Hoff down as much as he lets the bears down normally, and the 17.5 points were very well received, especially as it was one of only three players in the Hoff Measures who scored double points. A fantastic 169 receiving yards from DeAndre Hopkins kept him on a nice consistent three weeks of scoring, and a very respectable 12.3 points from Andre Ellington put them in a good position, but it wasn't enough to compensate for the no-score of Blair Walsh on a bye, and the pretty much no-score of Charles Clay. Combine that with the continued poor run of form from Antonio Brown, and Hoff is not being able to catch a good break this season. Due to my partial absence, I managed to leave the injured Alshonb Jeffries in, but Anquan Boldin decided to step up, and with the Saints offence still leaking turnovers, and Arian Foster being well and truly back, the three of them more than made up for the still poor form of Jimmy Graham and the pocket rocket that is Darren Sproles.
Next up was the matchup between the Devonta Freemen of Hwood and TJ's HHKBrowns. This is our matchup where I will award the Luckiest Team Award to Hwood, due to three turnovers from Matt Ryan, negative points from Percy Harvin, and of course the really bad injury to Jamaal Charles being more than made up for by (yet again) Devonta Freeman, a fantastic comeback weekend from Antonio Gates, and a big, big week from the Broncos defence, who are still carrying Peyton Manning to victory. A total of 73 points from three positions meant that even a fantastic four passing TDs from Blake Bortles couldn't make up fro the Ravens scoring zero, and only ten points from his bottom three positions. At the end of Monday night, the points gap was 33 points, and Hwood's winning streak continues to 5 for the season and twelve if you include his season ending run from last year.
The third matchup of the week was between Boost and Trees, and our [Unluckiest Team Award[/b] goes to Boost. The realm of the Tight Ends seems to be very touch and go, and with Andrew Luck still out last week, Coby Fleener only managed nice yards total, and the rest of Boost's receiving core only managed 10.8 points between them. He also managed to leave a huge 40 points on the bench across three players. Although one was Carson Palmer who scored less than Phillip Rivers, the others were two target, two reception, two TD Jaelen Strong of the Texans, and the other was the very up and down Isaiah Crowell. Trees team really did step up, with Julian Edelman scoring 18 points, Allen Robinson scoring 19.2, and the always awesome Steven Gostkowski nailing six kicks to give trees an unassailable 113 points by the end of Sunday, for which Boost had no comeback.
Unfortunately for Bueller, he is the winner of this week's Hottest Bench Warmer Award. Fortunately for him, the 33 points that Eli Manning managed to rack up (441 passing yards, 3TDs, but of course a pick) were not needed, with Tyrod Taylor's continued run of good form netting a very respectable 22 points, James Jones doing well against the Rams, and of course the Falcons doing well against a 2nd half capitulation from the Redskins and nabbing that OT pick 6. Pr0ximity only managed to have two positions score in double figures. Of course Tom Brady scored highly with zero INTs, 3 combined TDs, and the Titans managed four sacks against the Bills, did nothing to make up for only 36 points combined from his other seven positions. Jason Witten's terrible run of form continues, and Ameer Absullah's stock is still plummeting with only half a point. His bench couldn't have done much to help him in hindsight, with the only respectable points coming from Drew Brees. Bueller managed to create his lead by the end of Sunday, and Pr0ximity could only cut that down to 27 points by the end of Monday.
Our penultimate matchup was between JD and Absyrd, and JD's awful luck continues, as he still remains the only team without a win this season. Marcus Mariota's distinctly average season continues, with only ten points to his name. The Lions continue to be terrible, and they managed to be as watertight as a fishing net in their game against the Cardinals, letting 42 points go by, and only managing two sacks meaning that they scored negative one point. He did leave 50 points in skill positions on the bench however, in Ryan Matthews, DeMarco Murray (never lose faith) and Allen Hurns. I think I too would have got sick of Murray's performances and benched him, but that is just the luck of the draw, and I can just see JD banging his head repeatedly on his desk when he saw his lineup at the end of Monday night. He actually ended up ahead of Absyrd before the start of the Sunday night game between the Giants and the 49ers, but OBJ was back in good form, and Josh Brown also managed to score double digits, meaning Absyrd sailed ahead and ended with a massive 41 point win. JD is actually predicted to win by over 40 points against Boost this coming week, but as he no doubt knows by now, anything could happen.
Finally, we had Demik and R1N3 come together in a really high scoring matchup between two of the three highest scoring teams in the league. The up and downs of Tight Ends has been kind to R1N3 these last couple of weeks, and it seems to have reached it's peak this week with Tyler Eifert scoring a Gronk-like 21 points. Which was different to Gronk himself who actually only managed 6.7 points this week for Demik. Is this the turning point for the Ptriots? Has the unstoppable force of the Patriots started to slow down? We shall see. Doug Martin only scored 4.6 points in week 3. However, R1N3 has stuck with him, and he has managed a fantastic 54.1 points these last two weeks, with over 300 combined yards and four TDs. His near 34 points this week blew away Demik's comparable positions, and combined with two INTs from A-Rod showing that he is, indeed, human, and only 10 points coming from his two RBs, even four INTs from the Packers defence and a real change in form from Andre Johnson couldn't stop Demik falling to his third loss in a row. Even managing a score most others would be jealous of, R1N3 is now on a three week win streak, and he has managed to score over a hundred points in his last two, with 96 scored in week 3. He is also now up into the top five, while demik falls to 9th.
