Oh crap I thought there was a 40% kit. What kits do I need for a jd40? I probably won't have money for more then 1 kit.. Dang.. Also no Cyrillic?
dated info

Dressing a JD40% with Granite Round 2
There is no cheap way. A Pro Modifier kit is short by two 1.25u keys. A blank kit has no 1.75 key (you need two).
You'd need a common kit, modifier kit [icon, text or RGB] and Lost & Found. (for enter and tab and pn)
With those three kits (common, mods, lost and found) you could cover your whole board.
You'd have wacky legends on two 1u keys in the bottom row and backspace, which would be found in a pro modifier pack.

If you just go common and pro you'll have wacky legends.

If this GB is going to go through, about when can we expect it to start? There's a lot of keyset group buys going on and I have to be very picky now or else I will have little money left for living expenses.

The Granite is a sure buy for me since it looks nice but is not too flashy or gaudy.

It seems we will have a Granite R2 sooner than expected. For those who don't know it, this is what we are talking about http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=56354.0

I'm finalizing this second round that won't be a copycat of the original. If you have requests and suggestions please speak up. Also ideas for the new Nerdom kit are welcome.

Later I'll post the updated kits.

Matt3o will you be making this Granite R2 in ABS or PBT?  Please say ABS it's vastly preferred due it's lack of deformity which was common on your first version set.

Would genuinely like an all ABS set done because I feel for SP because it will go faster with manufacturing and result in far less returns.  Please let us know soon.

I don't suppose extras to fully equip a RACE I/II would be possible? I don't really know how many people are using them except me so it probably wouldn't be a popular suggestion. The most major difference would be 1.5x keys for escape and delete, everything else is reasonably easy to get around with a DSA keyset just from spares...

Damn, that's depressing. It would be nice if there was a JD40 pack. Even if we just added the one missing 1.25 key to the Pro Mods that would be fine.

The kits look good to me  :thumb:

But could you please move the text enter key from the numpad to the red enter kit?

It's the only difference to the R1 numpad kit and I don't wanna buy the whole kit again for a single key...

Matt3o, can you please comment on that  :thumb:

You need 5x1.25u and 2x1.75u ... so aren't the Pro Modifier kits short by 2 1.25u keys? (Even tho the keys it does contain have legends that don't make sense for how they'd be used!)

Note: Edited as requested.

You are absolutely correct. Please change my quoted text in your post. [on my jd40 I use "nm,./" down in that corner so there's a little gap and no 1.25 ]

I'm waiting for pricing from Massdrop (possibly today), if we can do this via Massdrop I have to make bigger aggregated kits (which will be probably cheaper than the sum of the subsets).

Otherwise we are a bit more free to do what we want with the kits.

If you want the correct legends yes, if not it'll be pretty easy to get loads of 1.25x keys with this set. If I join this GB I just plan to use some of the spares that haven't gone elsewhere.

you wont find printed 1.25 arrows, but you can buy a blank set and you should be good.

Yeah. I should have gotten the blanks for the ergo's mods, but in the end I decided not to because the colours are also available in the PMK store. You can also include CTRL into the 1.5x list, but I guess it might be a little redundant, but what the heck.

The 1.75x are more for the tsangan/1800 kit.

Willing and able, if they're going to be (thick) PBTs ;) A dark gray or gray ISO Enter
key would also be nice (at least a blank one). Are those ISO Enter keys still
DCS or is DSA now an option with SP?

Also, not a fan of the current "Nerdom" Kit. Personally I'd like to see a
black on gray Flask, Sun Logo and/or Lambda key in there. And I'd prefer f(x)
instead of the normal function key.

Anyway, big thanks for R2 @Matt3o :)

quick question - what will the inside/bottom of the cap look like? Can someone who has received his/her caps already from round1 send me a pic? (like the one below?)

Background: I just bought the double shots from Filco for my Majestouch2 Filco and realized I can not silence & O-ring them (easily) because their female cap stem has no cross inside of the cap. Which means I need 4-5 rings per cap to which makes the O-ring mod a bit uuaaaargg - if you need 400 rings.

Like this...

SP DSA caps don't come with cross bars so you will need to stack O-rings.  It's possible to buy much thicker O-rings

SP DSA caps don't come with cross bars so you will need to stack O-rings.  It's possible to buy much thicker O-rings.

Or do the trampoline mod <- Oobly starts to sound like a stuck record...

IMSTO sells some little silicon balls you can stick inside the little tube in the switch (or you can make your own "trampolines" by cutting orings into pieces or using a 2mm hole punch on a rubber sheet). Does pretty much the same job as properly sized orings, but since it's inside the switch you can use any keycaps without worry. Feels better, IMHO, too. Also can be adjusted to taste (thickness, length and hardness of the rubber piece).
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,

DSA caps are very short, though.

With 4 small soft red orings from WASD I can't even depress a cap.
With 3 the cap feels very hard. 2 produces a softer feel and silences the clack of the keys quite a bit.
It feels softer to bottom out on just 1 oring, but the sound and actuation feel is very similar.

I personally don't like the feel of orings on DSA, but might use them if sound was an issue.

I tried to dampen the sound and had to stack  2 of the softest red ones. But in the end it decreased the feel to much for me and i removed them again, although i liked using orings on ducky pbt oem caps before...
Now I'm modding the whole keyboard to ergo / panda clears to bottom out less and get a better feel than with browns (and got totally crazy after desoldering all switches, now I want to get me a custom plate with cutouts lasered and a wooden case made with cnc :D :geek ).
I kept the double orings on every key except the alphas  to remove the clack because I often bottom them out for shortcuts and stuff.

ok some news. this will most likely go through MassDrop. To me this is a great news since: a) at the monent Massdrop GB system is better than PMK; b) pricing will be probably better than R2 (but please bear in mind that we will hardly reach the 380 tier of the first GB).

Tomorrow I will be posting an updated set of kits, we will have the weekend to make few updates, Monday I'll get the final pricing and hopefully somewhen next week we could start.

How many total kits will these all be merged into since its going through Massdrop? Also do you mean that pricing will be better than R1?

I believe you underestimate yourself. I know I'll be buying a R2 even though I participated in R1, and with MD we have an even larger audience.
Since MD doesn't have a vendor sub forum, AND with Nuclear Green being in the GB thread, I find it entirely appropriate that Granite R2 also appears in the group buy sub forum.
